Where's the best place to buy tickets for DL? I think we need APs. Is there a DVC discount?
At WDW, my best deal is to buy discounted tickets (from a website with a special link from mousesavers), use them once (which makes them trade at current gate price), then upgrade them to APs with my DVC discount. Anything similar at DL?

I do not know if their is a DVC discount but I do know that at Disneyland you get credit for what you paid, regardless if the gate price is different. So if you are going to upgrade their is no real benefit to buy at a discount.

Since you are DVC I assume you are staying at the GCV so you will get MM early entry.

I would just buy the APs now.

It is true that if you buy tickets you will usually only get credited with the price paid when you upgrade to an AP. I thought there was a $20 DVC discount though when buying APs. Maybe my information is out-of-date, but you should probably check if you are looking to save money.

Last I looked the DVC AP price is $20 less than the normal price.

No DVC discount on plain old tickets, and who'd sometimes you can find a discount on tickets through a site like getawaytoday dot com, unlike at WDW you can actually get discounted tickets directly through Disneyland.com!

But if you need APs just buy them at the gate, or if there's a link to the DVC price through dvcmember (I haven't checked for Disneyland) just buy them like that.

Sometimes pixie dust happens while upgrading, but disneyland's upgrade policy is that you are credited what you paid...there's no price bridging policy like there is at WDW.

The easiest way to get your DVC discount (it is $20) is to walk up to the ticket booth with your Membership card to get your discount.
If you have to buy your AP online, like I did this past summer to get the pre-price-raise price, you cannot get the DVC discount on the website, and MS cannot sell you a Disneyland AP, either on the dvcmember site or on the phone. You have to buy a Disneyland AP either at the Disneyland website or at the gate.
However, if you take your AP voucher that you printed from online up to a ticket booth with your ID and your DVC membership card, and ask nicely (they will call a supervisor), they will give you $20 cash (or $20 gift card) and your AP that will be started that day. Takes about 10-15 minutes. :thumbsup2

There is no DVC discount on regular day-by-day tickets.
