DL tickets bought on Orbitz dates

Thanks!! I will update on the outcome in case anyone else ever has this issue

Good points about the savings for families. With it being just my husband and I the savings don't outweigh the risks for us as it's generally negligible.

They wanted to cancel it, refund me and rebook it...that is not an option for me as I am in the process of a credit card consolidation. The money would go back to my card but I can't use my cards right now. So I would basically lose that money...plus the price has changed.

I'm not being judgey in asking this, but why do people sometimes buy tickets several months in advance? I don't like buying my park tickets until a month or less out in case my plans change.

I don't pre-buy now, but when I did, it was a way for me to budget... $200 for my plane ticket there one payday. $200 the next paycheck for the ticket back. $200 the paycheck after that for the Disneyland tickets. Then $200 saved a few times for the hotel... And, honestly, sometimes I buy early just because I like to take them out and hold them and daydream about my next trip :)

Well looks like I am out of luck with Orbitz... I emailed their customer relations who called me and then this was the response I received.

Dear Wendy,

Thank you for the quick response. During the booking process, we do advise the following:

Terms and Conditions - Voucher may be redeemed for Disneyland® Resort Ticket. Voucher may only be redeemed once.

Cancellation Rules - Attractions and services are non-cancelable. A Voucher has no cash value and is non-transferable. No refunds, credits, exchanges, or cancellations of a Voucher will be granted once voucher has been issued. Refunds will not be issued for unused or partially used attractions or services. Availability and pricing for an attraction or service are subject to change without notice.

Please know on your behalf; we did reach out to the vendor to see if they would make a one-time exception and allow you to change the dates. Our request was denied, and they will only allow you to cancel and rebook.

Wendy, I wish we could offer a more favorable response. Orbitz, as a travel agency, as to abide by the guidelines placed by the vendor. The same guidelines would apply if you had booked on another website or with the vendor directly.

Sincerely,

Jeanna Handley

Hello,

It wouldn't be anything to do with the vender...it is just the dates in your system in which the voucher is valid. Disney tickets aren't date specific themselves(I go to Disney frequently). I've already contacted Disney and they have said Orbitz would need to fix it. I have heard some success with people being able to get their tickets outside of the dates on the voucher but I didn't want to risk this. I can't do the refund because I am going through a consolidation with my credit cards and I won't get the refund and then will have to pay for new ones out of pocket...I also bought this in February because the ticket prices were going up...unless there is a way you can cancel my reservation and instead of refunding my card keeping a credit with orbitz that I can just apply to new tickets this is not an option. There is no reason someone can't go into your system and extend the dates by 2 days...someone should have this ability within your company otherwise you have a very poor system.

Dear Wendy,

Thank you for your patience. After speaking with you on the phone, please know I have contacted the vendor on your behalf. Unfortunately, they do not have a way of changing the dates on an existing reservation. However, they will allow you to rebook for the new dates; then cancel the other reservation.

Wendy, I wish we could offer a more favorable response. We appreciate your business, and we hope to have an opportunity to serve you in the future.

Sincerely,

I don't really see how this can be true, as I changed my dates from October 24th to new dates of Sept. 4th without a problem (I posted about it yesterday). Orbitz really needs to get their stories straight.

I hope when you arrive you try the tickets and it works! :)

I'm a planner and I always book anything I can well in advance. I prefer to just get my trip booked and paid. If it is booked and paid when I have the money it is done and I no longer have to worry about it. The main reason I bought my tickets so early was because there was going to be a price increase shortly after so we saved money by purchasing them early.
Me too! I also like having everything paid for ahead of time, I will buy our tickets in Jan for our June trip!

I would still take them to the ticket office I don't know if it would necessarily apply but the tickets are good for so many days after first day of use, I am quiet sure Disney would make it right and if they keep having problems with Orbitz they will prob stop dealing with them all together

Wendy- have you tried to "chat" with Orbitz? Have them talk to their dedicated Disney rep and hopefully it will all work out in the end!

I am thinking when I get to Disney they will work it out if there is any issues (just hate having some worry until then).
I feel like everyone I have dealt with at Orbitz has no understanding of how Disney works. I keep telling them Disney is not date specific and even in the last response I received she stated I would have this issue if I purchased direct from the vender which is not true at all. They also keep pushing it back on Disney and Disney cannot change the voucher dates within Orbitz.

Then they sent me the terms and conditions and in what is above it doesn't say anything about the dates on them just that they can only be redeemed once and are nonrefundable. I don't want a refund I just want to redeem them 2 days after the date on the voucher. I don't see why this is so complicated. So I guess we will see next month.

I haven't tried the chat feature but I emailed several departments including their facebook and twitter sections (which was where this resulted from).

I sure hope it all works out for you. I have used Orbitz for DL tickets in the past and had no trouble, but for our upcoming trip, I listed 1 day prior to our arrival to ensure they would be there. Now I'm worried they will give me a hard time.

Did you select from the day before until the end of your trip or does your voucher only show your valid date as the day before your trip?
I'm thinking they just don't know how it works and that we will be able to get them, I just can't help but worry.

That seems fairly ridiculous to me that they're giving you such a runaround on adjusting the dates slightly. Why does Orbitz make you put in dates, anyway? I mean, why aren't they just like buying direct from Disney in that tickets have an expiration date, but aren't for a specific time? Seems kind of silly since that's not how they really work if purchased direct.

This truly blows my mind and I wish I could call on your behalf. To me, that is an unacceptable answer. You're supposed to forfeit the entire amount you've paid because you'd like to adjust the dates when Disney clearly stated they have no problem with it? I'd bet every single cent I've ever spent on anything Disney related (That's a loooooooot) that Disney will fix this at the ticketbooth. Also, this story inspires me to NEVER use Orbitz for anything ever again.

I selected the day before until the day we leave, so basically a day before and after we plan to be there. I debated going through them, but it saved $100 + e-bates cash back. We will be there Saturday evening to pick them up, so we shall see. There shouldn't be an issue unless you go outside the window that is stated at the time of purchase, I don't understand why they have to be so difficult. Customer service just doesn't exist anymore :(

Thanks everyone! I know it seems ridiculous to me as well. We get there Oct 10th so I will let you know if we were able to get tickets or not! If anything at lease it can help other people :) I don't think I will ever use Orbitz again for anything after this ordeal and the way it was handled.

You will be fine then because your valid dates are within your trip so you are picking them up then. Just according to Orbitz I won't be able to pick up my tickets after Oct 8th because the valid dates on the voucher says Oct 4-8th. And you are right customer service doesn't seem too. There has to be a way for them to make the "valid date" extended for 2 days.
