DL Ticket Question

I upgraded to a Premier Pass to get the DL discounts, but I still need to purchase 3-day hoppers for my husband and kids. (I know we could get 5 days for the price of 3, but we're only doing 3 days.)

If I purchase tickets online, and we print them out at home, can the GCH front desk convert them into actual tickets when we arrive? Or would we need to go to the front gates of DL or DCA to a ticket window? We planned to just enter DCA through the GCH entrance on arrival day, and get going. If we have to go around, through downtown disney, and wait in line at a ticket window, I would rather pay the $5 for mail delivery.

I'd appreciate any information or advice! Thanks!

You should be able to change them at the ticket gate, but since you're using the GCH gate I'm not sure, you might call the GCH and ask them directly.

This is a good question. I haven't seen it come up but probably somone has done it or tried.

Can the internet ticket printout be exchanged at the GCH turnstile entrance to DCA?

You got the Premier Pass - the one that allows you entry into WDW and DLR - for the discounts? Or did you get the Premium AP, which offers the same DLR discounts as the Premier but is cheaper and without WDW admission? You must have previously had an AP for WDW, I assume?

Our entire family has WDW APs. I am the only one who upgraded my WDW AP to a Premier Pass (WDW and DL admission.) It was only $201 to upgrade and $184 for a 3-day DL park hopper. So for the extra $17, I'll get all the dining and merchandise discounts during our August DL trip.

We decided that we would not upgrade my husband's and kids' WDW APs. We are just getting 3-day DL park hoppers for them. So that's why we have the question about delivery method (e-ticket vs. mail.)

I'm a little hesitant about the call to DL to sort out the e-ticket vs. mail issue because the last time I called DL to ask about AP room discounts, the CM told me the Premier Pass (for both DL and WDW) did not exist. Maybe that's just because the Premier is so new, and the CMs would be more familiar with the e-ticket vs. mail ticket options. So I was hoping that someone had personal experience with this. But if not, we'll just go with mail delivery and know that we are ready to go when we arrive!

Oh, okay, that makes sense - I figured someone in your family had to already have WDW APs or Hoppers in order for the Premier AP purchase to make sense - and that was a really great idea to get one Premier for the sake of the DLR discounts. Those discounts come in so handy, especially for the character meals and at the DLR hotels!! I really felt the sting of not having an AP last year when I went to my beloved Goofy's Kitchen. Even though I still eat there without an AP, I enjoy it so much more with that AP discount. Good thinking on getting the Premier!

By the way, Pixarmom, I thought of you the other day because I was trying to get another Catalina trip in works for myself, and I remembered that you love Catalina (and the Metropole) as I do!!

Okay, so to your original question - have you already received your Premier? If so, it sounds as if the only thing you need to do is get the Hoppers for your family and then swap the print outs for regular tickets, and that would not have anything to do with the Premier pass, unless I missed something somewhere. So can the GCH take the e-mail print-outs for you and give the you the regular Hoppers? Well, I am pretty sure the front desk can not do it. The front desk can sell you Hoppers and tickets, but they generally don't handle swapping the e-tickets for hard tickets. You have to do that at a turnstile. Now the question is whether or not it has to be done at the main DCA turnstile or can it be done the GCH/DCA turnstile. I can't say for certain - like Skiingfast said, I've never seen it come up. That doesn't mean it can't be done, though. It is a turnstile, after all. The CM at that GCH/DCA turnstile should have the same capabilities to take the e-tickets and hand over regular tickets as the CMs at the other turnstiles. They should have the same scanner doodad. I bet they can! I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do it at all. In any case, you don't need a ticket window/booth to get real tickets for the e-tickets. You just need a turnstile.

Oh, and be sure to have your room keys (Key to the Magic) with you at all times when using that DCA entry from the GCH. It used to be that you only had to show it first thing in the morning to access that entrance and then anyone (even non hotel guests) could exit and enter during the day without having to show a key, but there have been more recent reports from people that since WoC began, the CMs at that entrance are not letting everyone in and out and are asking to see the Keys all day long. I don't know if this is always the case now, or if it will happen when you are there, but keep the room keys handy just in case.

Sherry,

Thank you, thank you for all this detailed information! Yes, I already have my Premier Pass in hand - just upgraded when we were at WDW last week, and it was very exciting!

I really hope everything works out for your Catalina trip! When are you planning to go? I wish we were going when we are in Newport next month, but we've decided wait until ALL of our three boys are old enough for kayaking. Really miss Luau Larry's, too! I'll wave to the Flyer every morning on our walk to Balboa Island! All the discussion of Newport and Catalina is what prompted me to start posting on these boards - I now live far away from both and just love hearing others discuss them.

Thanks for the tip on the room cards, too. Should we have all of the room cards with us? We usually carry just one of them along at WDW, but it sounds like we should have all 5, which is easy to do - just need to remember!

You're very welcome! I hope it all works out! I really see no reason why the CMs at the GCH/DCA entry turnstiles woudln't be able to swap the e-tickets for the hard tickets. At least you can avoid the lines at the ticket booths, which will be good!

I was trying to get a Catalina visit together sometime before the end of the summer - by or over Labor Day weekend. Before the flying fish go off to wherever they go for the Fall and Winter! I love the Flying Fish tour, so I want to have the option to do that. I don't know if my trip will come to fruition, but I miss it there soooooo much. I miss Luau Larry's (and those kooky straw hats) too! I also miss Antonio's and their food! I miss Lloyd's taffy and Olaf's ice cream. I miss seeing the hillside when the boat pulls up the dock. I miss the quirky island residents who always have stories to share. I really, really miss just cruising around in a golf cart and breathing in the ocean breeze! I love it there in Avalon. Plus, I am eager to see the changes that are taking place, even though I hope they didn't change too much and lessen the charm of Avalon.

As a matter of fact, one of our DIS-ers here - KC Mike - just made a trip to DLR with a side trip to Newport Beach. He and his family were very close to taking the Flyer over to Catalina (I was really pushing for them to do Catalina, because mostly everyone who goes there ends up falling in love with it)...but, alas, they didn't go.:sad2: However, I also recommended Catalina to another DIS-er, PrincessInOz, and her family went recently and loved it - and they want to go back for a weekend stay!

I would have all the room keys with you at all times, just in case. If you aren't planning on using the GCH/DCA entry all day then you might not need them, but since it's so convenient - and based on the recent reports of all-day checks by rigid CMs - I'd want to be on the safe side.

I am so jealous of your premier pass!!! :) Of course if it was me I'd have upgraded us all, jeez, that sounds so cheap. LOL I hope it works as Sherry said and I hope you have the BEST time in DLR/DCA!! :)

Sherry, just loved your post - great memories! If you can work out your trip between August 23 and 30, and you are taking the Flyer from Newport, then I will be waving to YOU on our walk to Balboa Island! (I've taken both the Flyer an the Express from Long Beach, and I just love the Flyer!)

Pixiewings, thanks so much for your good wishes! And if it were me, I would upgrade them all too! My husband wants to limit our DL visit to 3 days, and KNOWS our boys would relentlessly lobby for more DL days during our following week in Newport! Therefore, 3-day passes. :)

LOL your DH sounds like my DBF. LOL Altho once we get there he's the one who wants to stay longer. :)
