I am pretty much a WDW guy. Nothing against DL; we live near FL, and my wife hates to fly, so WDW is our go-to because we can drive to it in a day. We are DVC members and Platinum AP holders.

It turns out I am going to find myself near Anaheim several times throughout the rest of the year for work, and will probably have time for two or three one-day trips to DL/DCA. I am wondering if I have any ticket options besides buying one-day tickets at “rack rates”.

Are you able to upgrade from a WDW Platinum Pass to a Premiere Passport? Even if you can, I suspect it would not be cost-efficient, in that the upgrade cost might be more than the 2 or 3 one-day tix. I paid $550 for my AP, and the Passport is -what?- $1500, right?

Is there anything else I can do to get a break on the DL/DCA tickets? I can afford the rack rates; I just would hate to not take advantage of a good deal, if available.

Thx.

I am a DVC member and I have both the Platinum Plus AP for WDW and a Deluxe AP for DL. Because of the excellent pricing on the DVC APs at WDW it really isn't cost effective to upgrade to the Premier Passport, we have found that it is more economical to have separate APs, I believe we get a DVC discount on DL APs as well, but it is extremely small (like $20). I suggest looking at last minute travel club for the best ticket prices for DL. Just keep in mind that the website is difficult to use and difficult to find tickets. You need to sign up for a membership but there are always free codes floating around. We have used them a few times and then upgraded to DL APs and it works great, they email you e-tickets that you can bring right up to the turnstiles to enter the park and then if you decide that you want to upgrade to an AP you can do that at a ticket window. There should be quite a few threads posted on the DL board about last minute travel club (lmt club) as a lot of people on the Dis use them for DL tickets.

Thanks! Yes, I remember a few years ago, there was some kind of DVC or WDW AP discount available on DL 1-2-day tickets. As you said, the discount wasn't huge, but it was like pulling teeth at the ticket counter to get them to figure out how to apply it.

I will check out this LMT thing (never heard of it before). If that does not work out, I guess I'll just pick up the single-day or two-day tix.

Thanks again!

If you are checking LMT for tickets be sure you search "LMT Club" for the tickets as the won't show up on the LMT. They don't have one-day tickets but have 2-5 day tickets.

One day tickets are extremely difficult to find a discount on. And if getting the discount requires going to a ticket booth skip it! That is such a timesuck in the morning as they take forever to process tickets and if they need help figuring something out it’s even worse.

I would spend time doing a cost comparison on how many one day tickets you think you'd buy vs buying an AP vs upgrading what you have to the Premiere. The Premiere will give you free parking ($20 per day value) plus 15% off food and 20% off merchandise. It will give you additional benefits in Florida. It really may end up being worth it. I think DVC only gives you 10% discounts and no parking discount.

We are WDW platinum plus AP and DVC members also headed to DL Oct 1st to Oct 13 staying at VGC on DVC points. We were wondering also about the break on DL tickets since we won't have the need for the DL AP.

Are you planning park days for all 13 days your there? If so upgrading to premier might be your best option. DLR sells a max 5 day ticket.

No definitely not. More likely 4 days in DL but we plan on exploring SD, LA, Hollywood, Santa Monica universal studios etc

In addition to LMT Club, look at Mousesavers.com for deals on multi-day tickets. It really does pay to look at which deals can work the best for your trip.
