Does anyone know when a renovation of Star Tours at Disneyland will take place? I know it's been talked about for a while. The ride opened in 1988 and it's so out of date. It's still fun, but with the technology nowadays the ride can be even MORE FUN!!!! :teeth:

Yeah, I've been wondering that for sometime myself.

Still a great ride non the less but on the list of "Misses" if we havent got time.

This is DS 7 and DS 3 favorite ride. We ride it a minimum of 2 times per day. That's the minimum! Sometimes we ride it 3 or 4 times per day. :woohoo:

If they update it, I hope they keep Captain Rex (the robot) as the pilot. My kids LOVE Captain Rex! And of course I hope if they update the movie that it's still themed to Star Wars - just a new adventure. :thumbsup2

If Captain Rex goes and the Star Wars ride goes, then my kids will have a MELTDOWN! I don't mean some sissy meltdown either. My DS 7 is high funtioning autistic, and you know how well autistic kids take change - NOT GOOD! Especially if it effects his favorite ride. Oooohhh, I dread the day that they do this. :sad2:

There have been rumors this year about a Star Tours update which incorporates the more recent Star Wars trilogy. However, it appears the biggest priority right now are the major changes at DCA over the next several years.

My DB also told me that the expense to re-film the ride would be quite high. Which is another reasong it hasn't happened yet....

I agree they are in desperate need to get a new film. I loved this ride back in the day but it is SO old. My kids love it because they have just been able to ride it the past few years and it is still new to them and that is the ONLY reason we still ride it but I would LOVE to see a new film!!

And I could be wrong but I swear it was open before 88. Are you sure it wasn't earlier cuz I was 21 in 88 and I SWORE I went on it as a teen but I could be wrong.

All of us on star tours are hoping they announce somthing on the 20th anniversary of star tours in jan. But theres so many things weighing on the no side. LIke for instance it still draws a crowd on busy weekends we have to put up extended queues and labor day weekend we had to improvise a line. Also with the humongous budget that nemo is taking in plus talks of a ride were people mover was by the end of this decade I just dont see any money left for my poor ride. Personally it wouldnt bother me if it didnt get a new movie, now what I want is a 3 month refurb repaint everything fix up tears in walls a little TLC thats all.

well, the refurb list never listed star tours... so i doubt its anytime soon.

I went and looked it up and it was done in 1987 so you were close. And according to another post on here it looks like it openind in Jan of 87 but boy did I think it was there before that. I don't remember going on Journey into Inner Space since I was a little kid but maybe they took it out and that space was just vacant for awhile. Plus I swore JIIS was over by where space mountain was but again I obviously remembered wrong.

Funny how you remember things as being so different when you were a kid.

But anyway you were close! ;)

They might have built it in 1987, but I don't think it opened until 1988. I lived in LA when it opened and I did not live in LA until December of 1987. Plus, I do not remember going to DL that soon after moving to LA, at least a few months later. When we went, it was really new and hard to get on. We went at a very quiet time of year and rode it first thing in the morning.

Which leads me to ask this question - How do you all ride it without getting motion sickness? Have they cued the motion to the film better than it was back then. My husband and I never went on it again after that time because we felt so sick.

Well as I said we ride it A LOT! Anywhere from 2-4 times per day when we're there, and we've never gotten ill or even felt ill in the slightest after riding it, but I did see one women who was quite ill after riding it one time. She headed for the nearest trash can.

I don't know how or why we don't get ill on that ride, but I've heard about many people that do experience motion sickness when riding it.

Maybe try some kind of medication for motion sickness before going on it again. Or perhaps it would help if you only looked straight ahead (don't look side-to-side or down at the floor at all). :confused3 :)

I did open in 87 because I I remember going through it from the People Mover on my 16th b-day (at the end of 86) and being really excited over it (and seeing R2D2 and C-3PO) and it opened about a month or so later.

I love the old movie and seeing George Lucas dive to get out of the way. If they do a new movie it would have to include George Lucas.
