OK. Always wanted to go to DL and now that I recently became a travel agent, I'm all about trips that are a tax write off/ways to train!!! :cool1:

So right now, it's all about looking for decent airfare. NJ to LA is not so fun. But I found a $350 flight on United (bleh) which of course means $50 in baggage fees if I decide to pack like I normally do.

Anyway, as much as I want to stay at on of the Disney owned hotels, I don't qualify for travel agent discounts yet, so, it's most likely going to be a good neighbor hotel for me.

Here are my questions:

What's a good, decent priced, good neighbor hotel? Has to be close and SAFE.

How can you get from the DL area to Universal and SeaWorld?

The Anaheim Resort area is mostly safe.

Any of the hotels on Harbor across from the parks fit the bill. Decent, walkable to the parks and safe.

To USH and SW, there are ticket packages through Grayline. This is the simplest but your time there is restricted by thier schedule. You can also take a shuttle or public bus to the train station. Train to LA commuter or Amtrak then a sub to US. Amtrak or 2 commuters to San Diego and a cab to SW.

The same company also runs Disneyland Resort Express which can get you from LAX and SNA to DLR area hotels.

If your tickets aren't set. Also consider flying to SNA and LGB.

I've gone to DL twice solo and planning my 3rd solo trip. I've used the greyline to get to Sea World, SD Zoo, & the beach...never had a problem. A bus picks you up at your hotel, and takes you to the main bus station where you board the bus to your destination.

As far as a safe hotel, I like the Anaheim Sheraton...with that said, I've never stayed anywhere else...if I find something I like & feel safe, why change? They have a free shuttle that runs like clockwork to DL every half hour, and comes back from DL every 1/4 hour. If they fill the bus, they have a 2nd one they put into rotation so you don't have to wait 1/2 an hour for the next bus. They have internal doors on the rooms (I noticed most all of the hotels across the street were more like motels w/ external doors), 24 hour security guard & doorman, & the property is fenced. The grounds are nice (the koi pond is a nice place to wind down), rooms large (although the bathrooms are small), beds are CRAZY comfortable, the carrot cake in the cafe is yummy, and they make a mean White Russian at the bar.

Congrats on your first solo DL trip...you'll have a great time! pixiedust:

I did a solo trip back in August, but stayed onsite at the DLH so I felt very safe. However I would think of any of the hotels right across the street on Harbor would be very safe with all the people coming and going from DL. My solo trip was amazing, even though I missed my DH, but it was so nice to go at your own pace and step back and really enjoy the small things that make DL so special.
