DL smaller than MK at WDW?

Disneylands pirates is way better? Even since WDW MK refurbished theres?

It my favorite ride!! I cant imagine it being better! Does it have the hill/drop?

Indiana Jones is a ride?! I wasnt going to do it cuz Ive seen it at WDW several times.

You may also notice that the scale of Disneyland's Pirates attraction is far more vast. The characters aren't right up next to the boat as they are at the Magic Kingdom. The process of reaching the pilaging pirates, the bayou and caverns are also more substantial. You will not be disapointed.

Indiana Jones is of course a must see as well as their incredible Space Mountain. Enjoy New Orleans Square and a highly detailed Fantasyland. Disneyland makes up for the lack of space with their attention to detail. The hands of their skilled craftsmen and maintenance staff is apparent everywhere. The upkeep of the park is incredible. The park is also much cleaner.

How big are the POC drops/hills?

Just as big as the drops on MK's PotC. Not very big at all.

The first drop at POC at Disneyland is about twice as high as they one at WDW. The second drop is about the same or a bit higher.

When typing messages here though I do tend to avoid them so I don't alienate the unitiated. Most folks who want information are first timers and I want them to have the best trip possible to my favorite amusement park. I don't lose any time by typing out the entire word and most people don't mind reading it.

So when I posted my response it was a general response and not one defending myself.

Like most folks here I use acronyms whenever possible because I shoot off a lot of short posts during my work day and do not want to take the time to spell out everything. At my job we do something similar for internal e-mails.

Your point about new folks being out of the loop is well taken and we should careful about that. One of the fun things about acronyms though is that they are sort of like a secret code. Once people learn them they feel even more attached to the community IMO.

Definitely DLR Space Mountain is better! Much smoother, and darker. Also, Toon Town is much more elaborate in DLR and has Roger Rabbit Spin ride, if you have kids, or if you just like that kind of thing.

I definitely miss the Aerosmith RR, but California Screamin' is right up there! Unfortunately, DLR's TOT is not random, what's the deal with that? It can't be that hard to make it random, as it is in WDW.

The thing I like the most about DL and DCA is that I can GBAF between the parks quickly. The other bonus is IJATTOTFI as well as a FS SM with better FX.

DCA has CS which is VT and while it is missing TTD the TZTOT has the best part of the ride which is the DS. They're removing the MB which makes me a LS but I think other BR like MM and GRR will remain after the DCA remodel. DCA's vast array of QS restaurants will probably be SB since most of them are empty except on BD's.

DL is a classic and has what some would consider to be BV of the same rides that can be found in TMK. FL has a BT than TMK's CT look. We also get PDJ, MTWR, and AIW. SWSA is shorter and lacks all the extras that WDW guests get to see but the QA for DL's SWSA has a better theme. Plus there is the GA you can touch to hear the WQ. It may not be there anymore but you can still touch the base and HHL. TT also has a more isolated feel to it and RRCS is a top notch DR. The SV even with the FN enhancements is still the SOR. The MB, no matter how old it gets, will still have a LATM. DL doesn't have the PM anymore but I've learned to live without it. POTC is better in a million ways.

I still love many of the attractions at TMK like the HM. BTMRR, while a little slower has a lot more to see as well.

Each has their own strengths which makes me want to visit both parks though for very different reasons.

Generally no. The boats round a corner with a brick lined tunnel ahead and the skll and cross bones on it warning you. That is where the first, larger drop is. You can hear the water. The skull is warning you and often times the boat stops there for a moment waiting for the previous boat to move into the next section. It is somewhat dark at the top and very dark as you go down. The second drop you can almost see as it is brighter, it comes shortly after the first one with no show scenes between them.

I agree with the several posters here about POTC, Space Mtn, and Indiana Jones rides at DLR. The POTC is better, the Space Mtn is much better (since the 2003-2005 refurb) and Indiana Jones (Indy) is incredible.

I really like Dinosaur at WDW and it does have many similarities to Indy at DL, but don't let anyone tell you they are "about the same". Indy at DL is an incredible experience and IMO a different leaugue than Dinosaur. With that said, I think Dinosaur is one of the most underrated attractions at WDW.

Finally, when I first went on Indy in the 90's I did not like it very much. The jerky motion was so different from other types of rides that it felt really uncomfortable and made me miss the rich theming in the ride. I had to ride it several times before I got comfortable with it. It would be my favorite ride at all of DLR if not for POTC.

Rumor has it that the DCA version has the capability of dropping randomly. I can confirm this as I have experienced a different drop sequence on a few occasions. I can also confirm that I've done the same drop sequence more than once. Cast Members will not confirm this and I don't have a contact at DCA so I'll have to research this a little farther. Potentially you could have a different experience but I think in the interest of efficiency and Team Anaheim's desire to furnish the same experience for all their guests.

That is interesting. I have heard that the DCA version of ToT does have this capability. I have also heard that DCA has not turned it on yet, and that they are waiting for a slow news period to turn it on and have something to promote. I am not saying you are wrong. I don't know. I do know that I like the randomized sequence they use at DHS and will be happy when they have it officially in place at DCA.

I went on the one at DCA twice and I feel like it had different drops. One I felt had shorter drops and one longer. But....those two times were seperated by a year or two. And I HATED it both times and was screaming my head off. So who knows what was going on...haha. It might have been one of those things...I thought it had random sequences...therefore it felt random. I'd actually like it better if I knew what the sequence was going to be.

You should be able to do all of that. Make sure you know how to use FP. If you are going for two days on Sunday and Monday, Sunday would be the better for DCA and Monday for DL because there is no MM on Mondays (now that it has changed) and you can get a good start.

I am not suggesting you split your days 50/50 between DL and DCA. But I would recommend spending more of your DCA time on Sunday. We always hop back and forth. If it was me I would start Sunday at DL at rope drop and avoid Nemo and Fantasyland because of MM. I would pick up a few FPs and ride some of the DL rides in other areas. Then I would hop to DCA at 10AM and spend a good part of Sunday at DCA, and return to DL later in the evening. Then I would spend all day Monday at DL. I would plan to see the DL RDCT fireworks show on Sunday night because of the threat of cancellation due to winds. If it got cancelled you would have a second chance on Monday.

Oh yes, I was just at WDW Jan 23-29 and at DL last weekend. Disney's Pirates is so much better.
1) DL's queue is better. You know exactly how far you have to ride. Plus, you have the talking parrot. At MK, it's indoors, twists and turns, and is quite dark.
2) DL has introductory bayou scene plus boat floats past the Blue Bayou restaurant.
3) Yes, DL has two drops and there more spaced and seem a bit deeper.
4) The VIgnettes are better placed. Don't really know how to describe, but they are just situated in better areas for viewing.
5) DL has all the updates that WDW has. In fact, they received them first.
6) The scene where you see the Pirate ship is much better at DL. MK does not have fortress with images of men fighting in silhouette. More cannon blasts and the feel of cannons whizzing by you.

I totally agree. Having just visited both parks within a week or two of each other, the differences were obvious. IMHO, Disneyland is vastly superior to MK. More rides, better theming, cleaner, more attention to detail, simply a very beautiful well thought out, well designed park. Plus, rides they share tend to be superior at DL (Space Mtn, Pirates, SMALL WORLD!!, Tiki Room, Autopia) and it has classics not at MK (Nemo Subs, Casey Jr., Mr. Toad, Mr. Lincoln).

Don't get me wrong. I love MK. MK does have a vastly superior Tomorrowland.

But one on one, DL is the park for me. Plus, it truly is a hassle to visit the MK for anyone other than those staying at the Contemporary Hotel.

Everyone keeps talking about how great it is that the attractions at DL are so close together. Yes, it cuts down walking time. But on the negative side...it makes walkways more congested and the place just tends to seem more crowded.

You are quite right, but the fact that DL has more rides means more people are sucked up into queues. When crowds are at their peak Matterhorn has somewhere around 1500-2000 people in line, riding, or exiting. Indy has another 2000+. Finding Nemo Subs has 1500-2000. Roger Rabbit has 500-1000. In the evening Fantasmic can suck up 16000 people. That makes it crowded in that part of DL, but lessens things elsewhere.

So yes, DL's walkways are more narrow and feel more crowded than MK's. Especially the Adventureland "gauntlet". But DL does have more going on to disperse those people which helps to lessen the impact on busier days.
