Club 33 was created as a place for Walt to entertain dignitaries. It had nothing to do with serving alcohol.

14. there is no single rider lines at all in magic kingdom.

Indiana Jones and Splas Mountain have single rider lines. The Indy line has not been available for several years, but it was there just a few weeks ago. I didn't have time to ask the cast member when it came back though. It was not there in Nov, but was there in Feb, so some time in those 3 months.

The Red Wagon Inn also had a stock bar for private guests. As stated Club 33 was originally for the 33 sponsors of Disneyland. The Red Wagon Inn's private room was for any special guests.

I don't think that was a mistake. That's just how the artist made it and when Disney got it, they saw it as a problem and used their Disney magic to make it look like Snow was taller.

No, she was designed to set above the dwarfs. BUT a secret is they were all supposed to be marble, but after the statues arrived from being carved (at a great expense) it was discovered that one statue was broken. Snow White!!! :scared1: It was decided that due to the fact they would look too different and Disney did not have any more money to remake Snow White they would re-make all of the statues from Plaster. Disneyland still has the dwarves some where in storage.

2. the droids in the droid room(staar tours que) were the old sam the eagle from america sings.

Sorry not Sam, these are actually two Geese from America Sings. They still appear to have webbed feet.

I thought the statues were anonymously donated to Disneyland?

Jason Schultz, keeper of Magic Kingdom Chronicles here on MousePlanet, provides us a historical background on the statuettes:

The figures were sculpted in Italian marble and were put into place in 1961. Some say that they were an anonymous gift, while others contend that they know who donated them. Regardless, the figures were all the same height, presenting a problem when they were to be installed in Disneyland.

John Hench was responsible for the design of the area. His artwork for the Grotto was exhibited in the inaugural Disney Gallery exhibit.

Since Snow White's statue was roughly the same size as the dwarves, a visual effect called "forced perspective" was used.

From posts on another board, it seems that the Indy SR line was reopened sometime last September. I can confirm that it was open when I was there for my birthday trip in October -- as I used it several times! :thumbsup2

the post said Magic Kingdom. Not Disneyland. I know it is called that too but that is not what I was thinking.

yes Indy has a single rider line but it is not always open.

I think that sometimes people write Magic Kingdom when they mean Fantasyland (when talking about Disneyland topics)...so maybe that's what the OP meant.

I had the story from John Hench, who designed the Grotto. He said that the statues were originally from Italy, and were originally marble. Walt told him to "put them in the park somewhere," and when he said that he was worried that kids would think that Snow White and the dwarves were buried in the park, Walt told him not to make it look like a gravesite (which he says is about how much art direction you usually got from Walt). He came up with the forced perspective idea to make Snow White look larger, and had the deer carved by imagineering. Then he added the wishing well and the recording of the wishing song.

The statues were set out and put on pressure treated wood, which uses copper to treat it. The copper leached out of the wood and into the statues, turning them green. They were able to bleach them white again, but decided that they should use plaster copies in the park to avoid a repeat of the discoloration.

John said it was one of his favorite places in the park.

Our Imagineer told us alot about these on our Backstage Magic ABD tour..here's the gist: They weren't made by a fan or art teacher and mysteriously appeared at DL..Walt commisioned them and they were designed by..shoot..I forget..a famous Imagineer. Then the plans were interpreted wrong and that is why they are the same size. The originals were removed from DLR a long time ago and stored, so what is at DLR are duplicates. The originals were in storage and while being moved a forklift driver dropped the crate SW was in and she broke. They assembled her as best they could, and she is now at the Imagineer sculpture studio. We got to see the originals and have our pictures taken with them on our tour. fascinating stuff..OH & Ub Iwerks great (or is great great) grandson works at Imagineering and we met him.

Really, that's interesting. I heard the story that Casey's Mommie posted when I was on the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour. Nothing about a forklift.

The sculptures of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were indeed commissioned, but they forgot to tell them to make Snow White taller than the dwarfs. By placing her at the very top of the area, forced perspective worked to make her appear taller than the dwarfs. That's the story I heard on the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour.

Club 33 was created to give Walt Disney a place to privately entertain guests in the park. It however remains the only place inside Disneyland where alcohol can be purchased.

You will never find two things being sold in Disneyland: newspapers and chewing gum. Walt felt that chewing gum made a mess and didn't want newspapers sold because he wanted guests to feel like they were not in the world.

I guess the mysteries continue! Our Imagineer said we had the 'real' story, but you know how fables go..many different opinions of real!
Here we are with statues and our ABD group. They did a real nice job of repairing SW, but you could sure see the damage. Wonder if the forklift driver is with Hoffa somewhere?(I am second from left)

Accroding to Disney Fact or Fiction on my Comcast Cable as quoted by Dave Fisher and Tony Baxter whom they interviewed for the 8 min spot;

Dave Fisher:The genesis of Matterorn came from a visit Walt took to Europe in the early 1950's.
Tony Baxter: Walt had spent time in Switzerland with James Mc Carther filming a movie called Third man on the Mountain. Walt fell in love with a mountain called the Matterhorn. He came back and said they were not going to build Rock Candy Mountain but the Matterhorn.

Inside the Matterhorn: A tribute to the late Frank Wells President and former COO of Disney Co. He was a mountain climbing entheusiest and the expidition boxes honor his attemts and successes at climbing some of the highest mountains on 7 continents.
