DL - San Diego - Las Vegas: Best time of year??

Hi,
We're trying to plan a trip with our 2 young kids and my mother-in-law for about 10 days: 3 days in DL/Los Angeles, 2 days in San Diego and 2 days in Las Vegas...although I'd like to do this when school is out, I'm not against taking my son out of kindergarten for a week or less. So what's the best time to go, considering crowds and weather?

I think late September / early October is the best. THe times at DL are shorter but you get so much done and the weather in Vegas is beautiful !!!!
