I'm thinking of using points for a stay at a DL resort. Is the cancellation policy the same as for a reg. DVC resort?

Terri

From the member benefit guide (available on the member web site - I just edited out the days for WDW and Paris):

If cancellation occurs more than 3 days prior to the commencement of the reserved time period for the Disneyland® Resort Hotels the DVC Member or Guest may only request, subject to availability, reservation of other accommodations at the same or another Resort Hotel through The Disney Collection or reservation of other accommodations through the Concierge Collection or Adventurer Collection, which requires the same or fewer Reservation Points as The Disney Collection Accommodations for which the reservation was cancelled. Requests for and occupancy of
accommodations at a Resort Hotel following cancellation of an initial reservation must occur within the Use Year during which the
DVC Accommodations assigned to DVD may be occupied. If cancellation occurs less than 3 days prior to the reserved check-in
date for the Disneyland Resort Hotels or if the DVC Member or Guest fails to check in within 24 hours following the reserved check-in date for any Resort Hotel, the DVC Member or Guest is not entitled to request or
receive other accommodations at any Resort Hotel and is not entitled to occupy the DVC Accommodations assigned to DVD.

Also keep in mind that points used for Disneyland are technically used in an outside program, and they will not go back in your DVC account if you cancel your reservation, period. It doesn't matter if you cancel two minutes after you've made the reservation, they can't be used at a DVC resort, and will expire if not used by the end of your UY.

I'm sure you've gotten the warning that Disneyland is not a very good value for your points. Personally, I like using my points at Disneyland, but I'm very sure I'm not going to cancel when I make the reservations.

Blackunicorn is exactly right, make sure you really want to go to Disneyland before you make that reservation! Personally, I love Disneyland so the fact that DVC is offering fairly decent specials for the 50th right now is really nice. We are finally getting to try out the Grand Californian for 26 points (well over a $100 per night savings than if we paid rack) a night in June. I know we could do a DVC resort for cheaper but we want to visit DL one more time before the 50th ends the end of September and know this is a great way to afford the GCH.

Hey, just curious where you found the 26 pts. deal? :confused3 I'm looking at DL GC for the first week of June, which is the value season according to the new vacation planner and the member website...so can you give me the scoop? 26pts. is way better than the 29pts. I see listed for standard view at GC.

Thanks! I really appreciate it!

Sorry bout that, it is 29 not 26. I think it was 26 for the DLH which is what I originally wanted but DH talked me into GCH! That is still way below what it was before they began running this 50th anniversary special for Disneyland. I think in my Vacation Planner it is listed as being 39 for value.

Ooh, nice! You'll have to tell me if you liked it! I wonder if I can get my DH out to California for a quick trip this year? I'd like to try the GC too. :earboy2:

I will let you know! Our dates are June 15-21 so I am pretty excited. I know its a one time thing because GCH is so expensive! You should definitely try to get your husband out there one last time before the 50th ends! Also, I was glad to see you liked the Disneyland Hotel. We just returned from SSR, you guys are going to love it!

Thanks for the reply! I was kinda hoping it was my vaction planner that was not right, but still, for 29pts./night it's a good deal...IMO. It'll be the first non-DVC property we use...figure we can't go wrong with any Disney property though. We'll actually be there shortly before you...we're planning for June 5 - 9. We finally got the family agreement that it'll be the GC for sure so I need to call MS Monday and book it. I'm still a bit hesitant because DS's school calendar isn't suppose to end till June 14, but if they don't use any foul weather days he'll be done on June 1...so our dates aren't a problem. If he's still in school...well, they shouldn't be doing anything major and we'll probably just pull him out...unless there are some cool 8th grade graduation things happening...then we'd cancel and use the points at a later date either at DL or back at WDW in one of the Disney collection choices.

I think we'll both have great trips!

I'm curious... We live in CA and look forward to using our points for DL resorts. Has anyone compared the point cost to the cash price - booking thru Disney Travel. Any help appreciated.
