Hi we have been to WDW many times. Never to DL... my question is if you had one day to spend in DL. ...What are your “must do’s” we are not Star Wars fans so .. am thinking we would like to touch on some of the “same” attractions for comparison! Thoughts, suggestions are welcome and appreciated 😄
Also we are going the week of 7/15!

I love to compare and contrast the "same" rides so that's always fun. For a WDW vet, I'll recommend that you check out the "classic" Disneyland, the Fantasyland dark rides. Definitely don't miss Mr. Toad! Also, Space Mountain is actually very different, so be sure to check that out. Pirates is much longer too and much better - it will be hard to go back! I also highly recommend seeing Mickey and the Magical Map - it's my favorite show at DL.

While hopping is easy, I think if you only have the one day I would stick to DL and not worry about California Adventure. If you do hit CA, definitely check out Cars Land and the Guardians of the Galaxy (formerly Tower of Terror). They are both terrific!

Hydroguy's A DLR Guide for WDW Vets might be helpful as you familiarize yourself with DLR. Be sure to check the entertainment calendar because not everything is offered daily (not even in the summer).

I also like to compare and contrast the attractions with the same names, but some are more interesting than others. For example, The Little Mermaid has some minor differences, but the main attraction is nearly the same; so if you're pressed for time, I'd skip ones like that. I would focus on the attractions that have the same name, but potentially some major differences (e.g., Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, IaSW, Buzz Lighyear Astro Blaster, Space, Splash, etc.). Soarin is back to the original movie (Soarin' over CA) right now, if missed it or want to see the previous version.

My favorite attractions (in no particular order) are Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Buzz Lighyear, Space, Matterhorn (although, it's really bumpy and rough), IaSW, RSR, and TSMM (this is pretty similar to the one in DHS).

In terms of food, I really like Plaza Inn (Fried Chicken), Jolly Holiday (the desserts!), Red Rose Tavern (Grey Stuff - which is different from the MK version), and Alien Pizza Planet (cute decor). For Table Service, my favorite is Cafe Orleans (pomme frites!).

If you're only going for one day, you'll have to decide if you want to invest the time needed for a nighttime show and then which show. I think you have a better chance of "catching" fireworks (Disneyland Forever) with less of a wait than WoC. WoC is unique to DCA, but if you don't invest enough time to get a good viewing spot (where you can see the water surface), it's not really worth seeing (IMHO).

I'm the opposite, I've never been to WDW but been to DL many times. I agree with the others though to hit up the classics. The Churros are really good at DL, not sure if they have them out at WDW?

They have them...but they're not nearly as good as the DL ones! I think they only have the regular kind too and they are not nearly as prolific.

Does DL Space Mountain have those cars that are so close to the ground? With my arthritis I can't get into and out of the cars in WDW.

Yeah, I'm curious about that too. At WDW those cars are super hard to get out of.

They're not the bobsled type. They're side by side. I can't remember how hard they are to get in or out or how low they are. I thought that the WDW space mountain was more like the Matterhorn when I first rode it.

At DL, if you find you need extra time to load and unload from the SM vehicles (or from any ride vehicle, for that matter), always alert the CMs at the ride. At SM, you will be directed to the HC access vehicle which will allow you all the time you need to load and unload without stressing your joints. Your family will be able to help you without rushing. Just those extra few minutes can make a big difference in making the ride much easier on you. And the DL SM vehicles are not super low to the ground like the Matterhorn/WDW SM vehicles.

They are not like the ones at MK. They are more like a regular roller coaster where you sit side-by-side.

However, if you are looking to ride The Matterhorn, it uses the same kind of cars used at MK Space Mountain. SM at MK was based on the Matterhorn ride system, hence the "bobsled" style of cars. Also, if you think SM at MK is rough...the Matterhorn's a back-breaker!

Pirates! It was really cool and unexpectedly better in DLR. We also prefer Space in DLR. old favorites like Mr Toad and Snow White were fun.

Plaza Inn character breakfast is a lot of fun.

Ditto on the churros.

Not sure when you’re coming, but we are finishing out our first trip. We did WAY more than we ever could at world in a single day. Over 20 rides Saturday, plus fireworks AND Fantasmic! It was an epic day. I love that everything is smaller and closer. I’m a land lover forever now. Fantasyland rides have much less of a wait than world- I’d do those for sure.

Woohoo! Glad to read you had a great time at Disneyland! I hope you are making notes while you are there for all the things you would like to see and do on your NEXT trip to Disneyland!
