I would like to visit Disneyland in 2010 and stay at the Grand Californian Villas. I want to stay 1 week (Saturday to Friday) in June. I realize the number of units is limited, and I will be booking at the 7-month window because I am not going to be an owner (just added on at AKV and BLT).

My question is: Can I book a cash reservation at one of the hotels and convert it to a points reservation if the GCV doesn't come through? I don't want to book the hotel room with points as a backup, because the vacation points are converted to reservation points and cannot be converted back to DVC points if I don't need the hotel (if I understand the rules correctly). Also, am I correct the 4 month rule does not apply to DL hotels?

Do you think GC will continue to be available via points once the villas are available?

You could book a cash reservation and just cancel it if your points reservation comes through, couldn't you? Why would you need to "convert" it?

There won't be points reservations at GCH once the villas are available, just like there are no points reservations at AKL, WL, etc. at WDW.

I would book a cash reservation at DLH or PP and cancel it if you get a points reservation at the 7 month window. Yes you are correct the rule of 4 doesn't apply to DLR.

You can't "convert" a cash reservation to points. It would be a cancel and rebook. A cash reservation would not "hold" it. I was looking for a GC stay on points for Dec 3 to 6 last year. Every room category was available on the disneyland website for cash but it was not available on points. I asked why, they said they had a limited number of rooms available for points.

You will most likely not be able to book GC on points once GCV opens (at least not after 12/31/09).
