DL Halloween Party even with a 10 day pass?

I am still trying to make up my mind if I should go to a Halloween Party at DL. I have my 10 day passes - is it worth to pay additional for the party? I'm pretty certain my kids would enjoy going on a candy rampage but does the night have a very different vibe from every other night that we will be in the park? I see that some people plan there trip especially to be there for the Halloween parties, so am I missing something that should make my mind up in an instant?

I've personally never been to a Halloween party (never been at the right time of year). However, I understand that the atmosphere in the parks is usually quite different than what you'd get on other nights. For starters, guests are allowed to wear costumes. That's enough for me lol! There are creepy effects like 'fog' on the river, and light projections. There are special shows and dance parties with characters. There are special characters that you generally won't see anywhere else, particularly villains. Plus the candy. If I had the opportunity to go I would just for the experience of a full-blown US Halloween event.

Having said that, it depends what you and your family are into and what your priorities will be. If you're not into villains or Halloween decor at all, and aren't into costume parties, then it's probably not worth it.

We had a 10 day pass last year and also got party tickets for one night. The kids (we all) loved it, they got dressed up, DD5 was Elsa (of course) and got styled at BBB, while DD8 got a Pirate Princess dress and got a makeover at Big Thunder Ranch. Both looked awesome. We spent a bit of time filling up candy bags, lots of fun, went on some rides, got some photos done, then joined in the Monsters Inc dance party/scare off. It was easily the best evening we had in the park.

We have been to 3 Halloween Party's at DL the kids love them I think they are well worth it even having a 10 day pass, my only advice is to choose a midweek party if possible we found it a better than the Friday night Party.

Thank you, sounds great and I love the photo, great Elsa stance too! The pirate make over looks cool, how much did that cost? I am leaning to going - Its an experience that we wont get here and I think I will regret it if I get there and didn't buy tickets. I will aim for a mid week party - thanks for the tip :thumbsup2

The pirate makeover was only around $35, about half the BBB!

It really is a lot of fun and definitely something you can't do anywhere in this part of the world!

I am not sure if the DL & WDW parties are the same, but for what it is worth, we went to the WDW Halloween party in 2013. We loved it, the parade was just fantastic we thought. The effort that many of the park goers put into the costumes is really amazing. The trick or treating wasn't such a big thing as was just the atmosphere. My DS loves Halloween so to experience it in US and at Disney was special and he and we enjoyed it all.

Here is a link to the Halloween party in my trip report if you like. http://www.disboards.com/threads/my...t-la-uso-ioa-wdw.3344673/page-2#post-52544497

The Halloween parties are a bit different on each coast. DLR doesn't have much of a parade at theirs, just a 'cavalcade' (like a mini parade) that isn't that spectacular looking. The WDW ones seem to be a bit more atmospheric too. At DLR you'll have the Halloween layovers on the Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain. You don't need to go to the party for those, but the lines might be shorter for them with less people in the park.

I recommend you check out Sherry's Halloween time superthread over on the Disneyland forum to get an idea of what to expect.

We went in 2012 when we had 10 day passes also, and it was definitely a different atmosphere in the park, with the fog on the river, spooky lighting, different entertainment etc. the kids went berserk with the trick or treating and got a ridiculous amount of lollies. We also enjoyed dressing up and it was fun to see other people's costumes.

Only bad thing was it was extremely crowded, much more than I expected for a ticketed party. And lines were long for rides (which didn't matter so much as it was our last night and we'd been on everything anyway) and for the special character meet and greets. But it was fun to do something different.

I read today that the characters at DL are only wearing their halloween outfits at the parties this year, so for that and all the villains I'd be going to the party - as long as you characters are your thing.
