Hi everyone,

We're WDW regulars, but have never been to Disneyland.
We're thinking (2 adults) of going to CA in early January for a week or so.
What we're trying to figure out is:

1) How do we "ballpark" a price for 3 days in the DL parks, a day at Universal and perhaps a trip to either San Diego and/or Hollywood.

2) We'd need advice on affordable (yet not slummy) accomodations, rental cars, etc.

Whenever we go to WDW we stay on property and could navigate around the World blindfolded...but CA is new territory for us.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the DLR boards! :goodvibes

Here are two places to start:

"A DLR Guide for WDW Vets" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599

* DLR Info/Links - Maps, Hotels, DISer Reviews, Hydroguy's tips, NEWBIE INFO here!

As for hotels, either stay at Disney or I am a fan of a walking distance if at all possible. See the links here: "HydroGuy's Hotel Rule" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1199862

As for January, that is off-season. Read and understand this thread before you commit to anything you cannot change: "What You Should Know About Off-Season at DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18462889

As for costs, you should be able to find hotels around DLR for $100 a night. You do not need a rental car at all. You can get a car for USH or you can take a shuttle for a USH day trip. See the USH website for info.

Dining at DLR is whatever you want. You can the less expensive route or the more expensive route. DLR dining is fine but not as a big a deal as at WDW. Maybe $100 a day for the two of you?

You can find some Hollywood, and Sea World shuttle/tickets packages too.

If you want to do a lot of things look into Citypass to get a good package deals in tickets.

If it comes down to renting a car to get to SD or anywhere there are a few options right around the resort. Dollar, Budget and Alamo.

With USH you just need to know how you are going to get there, car, tour bus, etc and what level of ticket you are going to purchase. Goodies budget??

When do rides with holiday overlays normally go down in Jan?

If we arrive on the 3rd - would we still be able to experience them?

It's not great because of the First falling on a weekend again, the crowds may end abruptly and the closings may begin ASAP. Last Year HMH went down on the Monday after but IASW was left open a week or two.
