What are the perks of getting an annual pass for DL as opposed to a park hopper ticket. I am visiting in September and will most likely not return to use the ticket again within a year. I will need a five day ticket and saw the discounted price on the DL website, and also noted the annual pass, with my DVC discount, is only $20 more. I was just trying to determine if the perks would make up the additional cost. Any opinions???

NE14DisneyWorld,
There are two block off days for the deluxe AP in September (they are Sept 3,4). If you are only planning 5 days and you are certain you won't be back within the next 12 months, or there is a block out date on one or more of your dates, then it may not be cost effective. If you are able to add another day onto your visit, then it's paid for itself...

One thing that makes it difficult to judge the value is that many of the DTD discounts are already available to you as a DVC member (they are listed on the DVC member web page).

I copied these from the DL web page (info is subject to change, of course) :teeth:

It also depends on whether you are planning to stay on property. I am saving $500 on my 5-night stay at DLH with the AP discount.

karylrocks,
Technical question for you: Were you able to receive the AP discount in advance of purchasing the AP? The last time we obtained an AP discount, we had to give our AP number in order to get it. I was wondering if that policy has changed?

Yes, I was able to get the discount ahead of time. I will not be getting my AP until we get there.

We were just there and looked into upgrading our park hoppers to APs. We were told by Guest Services that the discounts are only available on the Premium AP, not the Deluxe. She showed us a chart that showed all the different APs (So Cal resident ones as well) and what the different benefits were. With the Deluxe you can get AP rates at the hotels, but not food or merchandise discounts. This was less than a week ago, so I'm assuming it is still applicable.

You probably spoke to the wrong person. I have the deluxe AP and get discounts on dining and merchandise. Just go to the Disneyland website and check out the deluxe passport description. We also receive coupons from DL for 20% off on merchandise a couple of times a year - with minimum purchase of course.

Deluxe AP will give you discounts at certain establishments in DL and DTD, but with the Premium AP you will get discounts at every establishment that offers a discount. For instance, the gift shop that sells cookies at the exit of Splash Mountain gives a 10% discount on purchases over $10 with the Premium AP, but not with the Deluxe AP. For that matter, with a premium AP you get a 10% discount at all the gift shops when you make a purchase of $10 or more (even at the pin trading kiosks). And, at Blue Bayou you get at 15% discount with a Premium AP.

What we did was purchase Deluxe for everyone in the family but me. I purchased Premium because I am always the one who does the purchasing. :rotfl: Worked very well for our family.

With the deluxe you get some perks (discounts at restaraunts, newsletter) ... but so also with the hopper ticket (Early Entry [which, apparnetly, you will also receive if you are staying at a DL resort], and $10 game card at ESPN Sports Zone [which, if you combine it with the game card you get if you do the MVP club, can make for a very fun night at the Zone]). Of course, you can kind of get both, if you use your Early Entry and get your cards early, then upgrade and use the discounts for the rest of the trip.
