DL after dark

I got to hear all about the feral cats when we stayed at the GC back in July. They offer an early morning power walk through the CA park, and the CM who led the activity had lots of stories. We actually saw one of the cats while we were walking, which is why the subject came up.

The cats are placed there intentionally as a natural way to control pests and rodents. It's certainly better than spreading pesticides all over the park. They've all been spayed or neutered and have all their vaccinations. He said there are about 20 at CA, most of which live on and around Grizzly Peak. They stay up on the mountain during the day, and come out at night to hunt.

The cats are generally pretty shy about crowds, but they occasionally have one that becomes too comfortable around people and will venture out during the day. When that happens, they capture that cat, and put a notice up on one of the CM bulletin boards that it's available for adoption. Dave, the CM who led my walk a couple of times, said that one of his cats was a former DL feral cat.

Thanks for the link!

Really? There have always been cats who regularly come up to guests (at Whitewater Snacks outdoor eating area, as well as at Hungry Bear) and "hang out" under tables with no seeming "fear" of people. There are a few that I see all the time. They are the "regulars", as I call them. :) The CMs know they are there and have always, basically, ignored them.

Wow great story, I never knew about the cats. You learn something everyday

I've seen one or two of those cats, too, over by the Hungry Bear. Never realized they were there on purpose. Maybe they don't worry about them as much in FL. The tour I took was in CA, at DL.

A bunch of cats is much cheaper than pest control and they'll do a better job. No little mouse corpse to dispose of, either.

There are no feral cats in FL. This article is titled DISNEYLAND After Dark...

I think in FL they have some other natural predators to deal with rodents -- there aren't too many snakes in Anaheim. ;)

We stayed at the GC overlooking Grizzley Peak last summer and saw lots of cats! I think it's sweet! I'm a cat lover, after all.....
