Has anyone ever experienced a feeling of persistent dizzyness after going on a cruise? I just returned from my first cruise on the Magic last Saturday and ever since I got back on land I still feel like I am rocking and swaying. How long does it last? I told my husband I am landsick and need to get back on a cruise as soon as possible! I felt great while I was on the boat.

Yes, I have this every time..I generally feel little, if nothing on the boat..But my world sways for at least a week following...I think it differs with everyone as to how long it lasts..

I agree with the need to get back on the boat though.. :goodvibes

It is common...and the reason I continue to take Bonine for 2-3 days after we get off the ship. I haven't had a problem doing that.

If you ever hear anyone mention "getting your sea legs" that's what they are referring to. This happens within the first few days of the cruise and usually lasts for a few days after - it is the time it takes for your inner ear to adjust to the motion, or lack thereof.

And yes I definitely agree, the BEST cure is another cruise! :boat:

LOL, I am going to have to use that one! I also have this off and on for several days after I cruise. That's the best cure I've ever heard of, lol.

Yeah, after the 4 day I was woozy for almost a week....

I can only imagine what its like after a 7 day.

I had the same issue on the day we left the ship. I was able to get rid of it by drinking a lot of water and taking Dramamine that night. Felt much better the next day.

Hi Mary,
Yes, it's totally normal. Actually, I've barely noticed it since Saturday, and I kind of miss it. In the past, it's always been a nice (but a little strange) reminder of the trip!

Thanks to all of you for reassuring me. I just love this Board! Now I can sway around and not worry about it.

I was thinking of going to my doctor and seeing if I could get a prescription for cruise therapy. Since I feel so much better while I am on the Magic I thought I might be able to convince him that another cruise right away was important for my health. I am sure my health plan would be glad to pay for it!!

Let me know if that works for you, because I've decided I'm allergic to real life!

I'm lucky I don't get seasick, but I always feel like I'm still on the ship for days after I return.......but I get the same feeling after a long flight too.
So as I west coaster, I get a double whammy after a Caribbean cruise, 7 days at sea followed by 7 hours on a plane!!

Hi Mary,
My family and I were on the same cruise as you! My husband and I keep thinking about where the ship is now (ie "now they're leaving P.V., now they're in Matzalan"-sigh). We live in Simi! Are you going to the Fair? I think we were the only ones from Ventura County- (??). I think your sea legs will come back! The LA Times had an article about this subject w/in the last 2-3 weeks. Be patient. I do agree;another cruise is definetly in order!

Let me know what the doc says about cruise therapy and if you can get your insurance to pay the therapy cost!!!

Hi Claudia,

We do the same thing. At dinner tonight my son was wondering what family our awsome servers (San and Sandra) were waiting on tonight. I didn't meet anyone else from VC on the cruise although I talked to a lot of people from LA We will probably go to the Fair on Sunday and fight the crowds. I've lived in the area all my life and it is sort of a mandatory event! Thanks for the info on the LA Times article. I think I will try to look it up online. I'm sorry we didn't meet on the cruise, but maybe next time. We are looking at booking for next August. The only problem is that it seems too far away!

Well I'm not holding out much hope since I have an HMO. I guess I'd be lucky if they authorized the $20 it costs to ride around our local harbor in the water taxi! :rotfl2:

I even had an MRI last Dec after our 12-4 to 12-11 cruise. The dizziness was awful. I also got sick midway through in Cozumel on land, but was fine on the ship. The mri was totally fine, but a pain to have to deal with. But, since I couldn't seem to stop spinning, I wanted to make sure nothing was wrong me. On future cruises, I won't be nursing a baby, so I will take the drugs for sure. Lisa, I assume you take them for a few days befoe, during and a few days after the trip? I'm wondering if you could just take them after?

I was just wondering, as I am new to this cruising thing. Is seasickness comman? And when you talk about these dizzy spells when you get off the ship, how are your children with that? Is it less comman for kids to get this? I am really confused about which remedie to try for DH, DS-9, DD-11 and myself. Any recommendations?
Thanks.

I basically felt drunk the entire time I was on the cruise (and for a couple days afterward, it slowly went away). I really noticed it at night though. I was afraid to have any alcohol on the boat- didn't want to make it worse! I was not actually nauseous and didn't care to take drugs to help. My kids did not notice a thing- during or after!

On our first cruise it took several days before that feeling went away. This was when the Big Red Boat was the official cruiseline of Disney; a much smaller boat. It was worse in smaller places such as bathroom stalls. However while my wife and son have experienced this after our Wonder cruises; it has never happened to me. My guess is because of the much larger ship, less motion.
