Dizziness in teen son - Updated in first post

You can look it up as orthostatic hypotension.

It's not just for runners. Anyone who gets dizzy going from laying to standing should "dangle" their legs over the side of the bed for a minute or two before standing, which allows their blood pressure to get up enough to support brain perfusion. Very common in the elderly who take a lot of medications.

I might have to start doing that. If I hop right out of bed or off a couch I black out and my legs can't support me for about half a minute. I'll try dangling my legs on the side of the bed for a while and see if it helps.

This topic is eerily similar to my experience a few months ago when I was 20. Was on a diet and had lost a lot of weight, but kept blacking out, sometimes whiting out with a bright light, and collapsing back onto the sofa or bed after getting up. Couldn't walk straight for a few hours, felt nauseous and woozy. Had to miss some education for it, which ticked me off.

All tests were fine, and it passed a few days after the test results came back, whilst I was still on the same diet. So I don't think it was that. I'll definitely check that tip out though! It drove me nuts whilst it was happening.

It had happened a few times before, usually after a warm night. I always wondered if heat had anything to do with it. I always dread it coming back.

I just got over a round (my first) of vertigo - lasted 1.5 months. It started one night - every time I rolled over I felt like I was spinning. When I was upright, I felt better after a few moments but had some vertigo throughout the day.

Went to the Dr. 3 times and he told me not to be concerned - it was likely an inner ear thing and it's a common complaint. After I didn't get better in a month, he was just about to refer me to an ENT when I started to get better.

I'm still getting a wee bit of vertigo when I hold my head at a certain angle ... so I've stopped doing that. :rotfl2:

Kinda weird - I've heard a LOT of people dealing with vertigo lately. I know allergies can cause an inner ear problem but I've never heard of so many.
