DIY Welcome Baskets for Kids

I love the packages you can order from Disney Florist to be waiting in your room when you arrive. However, I don't have room in the budget to do one per kid. (We have 3 boys). So, for our trip we are planning for 2013 (the first for everyone in our family!) I am going to make my own welcome baskets and then sneak them into our room while the boys are helping daddy unload the car.

Each boy will have their own basket to include:

autograph books and pens
new disney tee-shirts to wear in the park
glow sticks/necklaces to wear at night for parades
a disney plush of some kind


I want to add a few more things but I am at a loss....any ideas?

I have a new beach towel/sunglasses/hat and flip flops (Disney of course) in the baskets I am making along with Glow necklaces a few new pins for trading. I am doing them in a Disney beach bag that I found at Wal-Mart and then I am embroidering the names on the front. My bags are for girls, but I think beach/pool gear is pretty universal.

Everything summer related goes on clearance in July. Great time go stock up on t's and pool toys or swimsuits.

Sunglasses are always a big hit. Baseball caps? Over priced bubble blower do dads.

Halloween you can find pirate swords. Target seems to always over stock on seasonal merchandise. Check their clearance throughout the year and toss little items into a shoebox. You can then use items as stocking stuffers or Disney treats.

We are doing this for our June trip this summer. I have a stuffed Minnie and Mickey, minnie and mickey hats to wear at the park, toy story water bottles, disney sunglasses and I am going to make some rice krispie mickeys heads or get the from the resort. I got everything at the disney store. I also have swim goggles, beach ball and new disney towels for the first trip to the pool. I also have been collecting little disney themed things from the Target dollar spot to hand out on our drive (we are driving from Iowa).

How about lanyards with a couple of WDW trading pins for each boy?

You didn't mention what time of year you are going.

If you are going during the summer, add small hand held battery operated fans. (Don't forget extra batteries). I get these at Walmart for around $1 each. Also, bandanas. Get these wet and wear around your neck to help cool you off. Our Hobby Lobby has some Disney ones.

Just a tip as per my experience. I did this for our kids, but couldn't do it the day we arrived (logistically had difficultly doing it). I however had the "welcome pails" there when they woke up the next morning. The "when" didn't seem to matter that much to them. So don't sweat it if the welcome baskets arrive a day or so into your trip.

Also include a "welcome letter" to Disney from their favourite character. It's pretty easy to do one up on the computer that looks really good.

I also included a home-made "coupon" that allowed them to pick a t-shirt of their choice at the store.

I'm starting to work on the same thing for my kids for our fall trip. I'm going to try to get crafty and make their autograph books. I've been looking around on Pinterest and have found some really cute ones. I am also thinking about including a few things like t-shirts (love the ones I found recently at Target!), maybe a couple of pins on a lanyard, and a few other small treats.

* couple of pins (you can pick up some good ones on ebay for a reasonable price -- there is a thread of reputable sellers so you can avoid "scrappers"; I've had good experiences with gyantzpod and gitanoman)

I keep going back and forth on this. I am afraid my kids would be to young to really get into the trading since they will be 5, 3, 1. However, if I do decide to do them that would be a great addition to the welcome packages!

What is a carabiners? A GC is a great idea!

They'll be needed, we visited in early Oct - it was very hot and muggy.

I had never heard of this before. Love the idea of a coupon to get a shirt. That makes the kids be able to get a shirt without spending "their" money. Guess I better get to work.
