I found this qoute from Natalie Maines, the lead singer for Dixie Chicks, on Chicago's top country radio station. Here's the link to their web site:US99. Click on 'counrty news' to read it for yourself.

Quote of the Day:
"We get in trouble for saying the wrong thing and doing the wrong thing and we don't care. We want to be true to ourselves and honest to the fans and to ourselves."
--Natalie Maines, the Dixie Chicks

So all the other prior comments of explanation and appologies where false and meant nothing???

I said this on another thread: I think she meant what she said the 1st time and only made a somewhat apology as damage control. I am really dissappointed in her.

I think everyone has a right to voiced their opinion. However, not all of us have a mike to do it. I would rather NOT know the poilitcial views of actors, actresses, singers....

Well, here's the proof that her statements meant nothing.
I like to see proof that people are liars. And not just second guess their motives.

What a shame!:(

As far as I'm concerned, the Dixie Chicks shot themselves in the foot with their statements. The Country music genre typically turns out very patriotic singers and musicians. It seems if they wanted to stay on the top of their game, they would never have gone public with their views.

Maybe I'm thick headed here but I still don't understand why her being ashamed of the president makes her unpatriotic?????? I can't tell you how many times I heard people say they were ashamed of Clinton but that wasn't unpatriotic?? Please! Is it because our brilliant president got us into a war we can't get out of that we should all support him 100% with smiles on our faces? It *IS* possible to support the troops who were sent into this mess %100 and not support the person who is sending them.

Celebrities are allowed to speak their minds too and I know several Dixie Chicks fans who think the president is an idiot as well. I don't think it will hurt their pocketbooks too much and I hope they don't back down from pressure given by the true unpatriotic people.

I was ashamed of Clinton because he was too busy chasing skirts around the Oval Office rather than doing his job. He was a liar and a cheat.

For all of his faults, Bush has done nothing immoral. He is trying to do his best, which is all that anyone can expect.

As for the military, I'm sure there are soliders that disagree with Bush, but as a number of threads on these boards have mentioned, most of the military respects Bush because he respects them. That could never be said about Clinton.

And yes, celebrities are allowed to speak their minds - it is a free country afterall - but they need to learn that it doesn't mean that the media should listen and then force it all on us.

Sorry to spout off, I'm just soooooo tired of hearing celebrities going off about something that they know nothing about. Talk about music or movies. That's what they know.

Bush is so moral  give me a break.

The topic is about the Dixie Chicks and the comments they made. It's a free country and she can say whatever she wants. If people are so narrow-minded that they are going to ban their music and burn records, well I think that speaks for ignorance.

I posted Natalie Maine's quote to show people that the spin they were trying to put on her original statement was just that.....all spin.

She doesn't care about what her fans think or anyone else for that matter.
Or that she appears to be only trying to save face and the loss of $$$$ by making false explanations and appologies.

Why make statements that are untrue and dig yourself a bigger hole??

I hate when people, celebs or non-celebs, try to unstick their foot from their mouth by sticking the other one in.

Like I said before in the other Dixie thread: Freedom of speech is no longer free when a person pays $50+ dollars to listen to you rattle off your personal viewpoints, instead of entertaining the people. No matter what their views and opinions may be!

This is where I find fault.

Good point. Basically what an entertainer at a concert has is a captive audience if they want to spout thier political views. Once the statement is out of their mouth, it's too late and the show might be ruined for some. Now if the Entertainer (anyone, not just the Dixie Chicks) offered a full refund to anyone not sharing their views, then I could respect that. I may not agree with them, but I support their right to say it. I also support the right of a person to walk away from what is being said. In this case that really wasn't an option. They had no choice but to listen.

I do not think anyone is thick headed and I do believe we are entitled to our opinions...and of course freedom of speech something we hold dear and fight for.. but to go overseas and make that kind of remark about the President of the United States and the Commander in Chief is despicable in my eyes.. Do we need to be over in another country bashing our own???

I keep waiting to hear Barbra Streisand has moved to France.. ;) :)

She has the right to say what she said. I have the right to not buy anything of theirs anymore. Simple as that.

I don't listen to, or buy CDs, because of the artists' political views. I buy music I like to listen to. Their views is irrelevant to me. If I like music, I listen, if I don't like it, then I don't listen. Simple as that.

I agree MosMom

Why people think we need to agree with Bush is crazy. I don't agree with him, nor do I like him. I also think he is fighting his father's war.
In the end I HOPE AND PRAY that war will not happen.

Does this make me unpatriotic....UMmm do you think I care! I mean really I don't CARE.

I don't think it's a matter of being patriotic or not. To me, when I buy a ticket to a concert I expect to hear music. If I go to a political rally I expect to hear politicians. If I was at a concert and had to hear politics I would be angry. If they want to spew political *#$(*# they can speak at a political rally. Everyone would cheer them. It just shows a total lack of class and a lack of respect for the fans who are paying their bills.

This whole things reminds me of the time Sinead O'Connor tore in half the picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live.

I'm sure they managed to squeeze in their concert after that 5 second remark.
