I don't understand why she keeps this going? Their record is coming out this week, why stir the pot again? :confused3

This part really blew me away:
"For band member Martie Maguire, the controversy was a blessing in disguise.

"I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith," Maguire said. "We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do.""

What?!

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. After all, they were proven completely right the last time they said something perceived as controversial.

I take it you haven't heard their new single? :teeth: (My favorite part is in bold)

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep paying

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can’t you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Sorry, but I've been on the Chicks' side since the beginning. I'm ashamed that the clown is from my country, so I can certainly sympathize with her original comment. As for this latest...sorry, but again, I couldn't agree more. The guy is a disgrace to the office, and gives all Americans a bad name.

Wow I didnt agree with where she said what she said last time...but I still listened to their music. BUT...I listen to many of those artists she mentioned so I guess I wont be listening to her anymore. That was a bit insulting. I dont usually listen to music because of the artists views but that stinks.

They were on something this last week (one of the news magazines like 60 minutes or 20/20) and one of them said that they do not like where country is returning to (if this means old country then I LOVE it!).

I love their sound--and I surely am not a "redneck" country fan as they labeled the country following.

I don't think natalie (lead singer I'm talking about) has a cross over voice. Her voice is very distinctly country. She's very twangy.

So I don't know what they are talking about.

What is sad about that bolded text--it is very very true. They have had credible death threats (time, place, weapon, victim) just for the words they say. While I think they may benefit from piping down--no excuse for death threats that they do get on a regular basis.

You must be a redneck then as I must be according to the dixie chicks.

I do enjoy their music, I just don't see the point in rehashing it all. I said before, in an earlier thread on them, how sad/terrifying it was that they received death threats over what they had said. The part in this article that bothered me today, was the fact that they mentioned not wanting fans who listened to other country music along with theirs? What's wrong with that? :confused3

I find her comments to be very insulting to her fans too. I however don't care for much country music at all, and while I feel some country singers are worth the crossover for, the Dixie Chicks certainly aren't on that level.

The timing of this is inetersting...a few days before the release of a new album.

Can you say free publicity??? Say something controversial and everyone will be talking about you.

I didn't think they were all that impressive before any of them actually spoke. I think they're less impressive now.

Wow, what a complete nimrod. Does she not want to sell a single album again. Seriously, when your core audience is as patriotic as they are, you don't go bad mouthing them and the president. Especially if that certain president is from Texas.

The answer is in your first sentence - their record is coming out.

I used to enjoy listening to the Dixie Chicks but I just can't listen to it in the same way any longer. I could care less what her political views are and I really don't appreciate having them shoved in my face by any artist (liberal or conservative!) While I am saddened that people would actually threaten their lives (there is absolutely no excuse for that), I love the fact that many people bulldozed over their cd's :thumbsup2 People want to hear you sing Natalie - not give your views on world politics. If they did they would have you on CNN not CMT :lmao:

:rotfl2: They limit what you can do! :rotfl2: They do indeed, they do indeed.
I'm thinking that wish will come true and and they're well on their way to the pop culture glue factory.

Time has a story and according to them, Maines is one of those people born middle finger first. :rotfl2: Now that's priceless!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I'm sorry that just tickled my funny bone tonight.

Oh yes, and your right Lisa loves Pooh...I must be a redneck. :teeth:

I dont like her, but I wouldnt kick her out of my bed, even if she was eating crackers

Good for her. Dissent is patriotic and they certainly were right the last time they spoke up.

I think that the reference to not liking the direction country music is taking now has more to do with the pop-influenced country.

"Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" - that's not country music the way Buck Owens and Hank Williams knew it!

I like the Bakersfield sound myself - Gary Allen is my favorite, or the folk-bluegrass stuff like Alison Kraus.

Anyway, I found the uproar over Natalie' Maines' original statements shocking and appalling.

Criticizing the President is not only our right, it's our responsibility as American citizens. If we don't hold our politicians accountable for their behavior, who will? There is nothing unpatriotic or morally wrong about being ashamed of the decisions our government makes. In fact, I can't think of anything more in keeping with the spirit of our Founding Fathers than high expectations and a ruthless crititique of all our elected officials.

I don't agree with their political views, but it will not keep me from listening to their new cd. I like the new song and I like the fact that they're being honest. She isn't sugar coating her music.

I think it's much ado about nothing. The Beatle's "We are more popular than Jesus" comment was only a hiccup in their career. I don't think most die hard fans really care that deeply about their favorite entertainers politics. If I really like a certain musician's music or an actor's films, I wouldn't enjoy them any less because of a political statement they made.

She's so unbelievably stupid it's actually painful. I don't care what she says as far as the President is concerned. So what? The part that got me was their insistance that they had the "right to free speech". Ummmm, yeah, you do. And until you've been arrested for what you said stop crying about people infringing upon your rights. The Constitution protects you from the government, not your fellow citizens. She has the right to say whatever she wants just like everyone else has the right to not buy their records. Ms. Maines seems to miss the second part.

If you don't like the Dixie Chicks then don't listen to them, don't buy their music. :confused3 I wouldn't listen to Toby Keith or Reba if you paid me. I'm with the Chicks in their politics and love their music. It takes all kinds. They're willing to put their "money" where their mouths are. I respect them for it. My most recent favorite Chick song is "I Hope". (see sample lyrics in my sig line.)

But, hey, if you don't like the Chicks I can suggest you listen to songs by Pink (with the Indigo Girls), Neil Young, Seize The Day, John Mellencamp, System of a Down, Green Day, Willie Nelson.

My current favorite is by Neil Young because it has Mr. Bush's own voice interspersed:

Let's impeach the president for lying

And leading our country into war

Abusing all the power that we gave him

And shipping all our money out the door

He's the man who hired all the criminals

The White House shadows who hide behind closed doors

And bend the facts to fit with their new stories

Of why we have to send our men to war

Let's impeach the president for spying

On citizens inside their own homes

Breaking every law in the country

By tapping our computers and telephones

What if Al Qaeda blew up the levees

Would New Orleans have been safer that way

Sheltered by our government's protection

Or was someone just not home that day?

Let's impeach the president

For hijacking our religion and using it to get elected

Dividing our country into colors

And still leaving black people neglected

Thank god he's racking down on steroids

Since he sold his old baseball team

There's lot of people looking at big trouble

But of course the president is clean

Thank God

If you think The Dixie Chicks are alone in "disrespecting" George W. Bush you just haven't been paying attention. :wave2:
