Divorced a year now

I'd have to look at the papers to see when the date of my divorce was. I know it was 2000 (I got married in 1985, had dd in 1990, got divorce in 2000--makes things easy to remember) but I have no idea which month so I don't really celebrate the "anniversary." My divorce took so long to go through that I was just pretty grateful when it finally happened.

Congratulations on the way you've handled the past year, Serena! It's so difficult and I'm glad to hear that you're in a happier place emotionally.

When people tell me "I'm sorry" when I mention that I'm divorced. I just reply "I'm not." They never know how to respond to that!

Same here. As was noted before, it's never easy -- no matter how much you are prepared for it and how much you think you want it. But it was the best decision I ever made and I know that both DD and I are much better for it.

Laurie, Keep up the positive attitude. I have been divorced for 13 years. Once you make the adjustment of being alone, you find there really is life after divorce!

I've been single 11 years, or as I am prone to say "blissfully single"! My younger sister (very happily married to a great guy) sends me an anniversary card every year with the text altered - it's always a hoot! The date I remember more than the actual filing of the final order is the day I got the guts to take my children and leave. Sometimes I can't believe how happy and at peace I am now!

My divorce was one the hardest things I have ever done, but at the same time one of the best things I have ever done. Benn divorced since FEb. What a difference a year makes.
