has anyone done this recently? I'm thinking of surprising my ds 14 with this in a couple weeks. Are there any discount coupons or codes for sw?

We're doing it tomorrow. Will report back. Not sure about discounts other than ones already reported - adults at kid price and Southwest Rapid Rewards discount.

My family purchased 8 slots for shark dive on Sat. of Labor Day. Only 2 at a time can go so that took some strategy to figure out who is going with whom! Grandparents...parents...kids...etc

I am probably going to print out tickets before we go to save standing in line that morning. It will cost me $5 more per ticket but I don't want to get there and see a huge line at the ticket window to use my Southwest card. We have the first shark dive slot of the day.

Let me know how you like it!

This is a great experience!:thumbsup2

My two DS's and DH did the shark dive on our visit in November last year as a surprise and they loved it. They give you pre dive instruction and they were in the water for what seemed like ages as the cage moved very slowly across the tank.

They were able to talk to each other through their head gear, and with the Sea World trainer on the surface with any questions they had.

We were advised to go into the Shark Restaurant to watch and take photographs through their big windows and it was fantanstic. Even though we were not eating there they let us in as long as we stayed in the designated viewing areas so as not to disturb the guests eating.

The waiter then brought me a microphone so I was able to speak to them underwater - it was great, my son was describing everything:thumbsup2 - the only warning is that the whole restaurant can hear what you are saying, but I think they were all humoured by my sons excitment :goodvibes

After the dive they received a great tshirt and shark book. When we went to collect our free photograph we were told as international guests we would receive the full CD of pictures taken during the experience, which was a great surprise for the boys. It is worth making the most of the photographer while he is with you (only on the surface though)

My two sons were 13 and 10 so I have no doubt your DS will enjoy it - after all when would you ever get this close to sharks:laughing:

He is sooo excited he can't stand himself. Plus now I can get him to clean his room without any complaints. I was able to find a video on youtube and it was awesome. Last week he was excited about the swim thing at Typhoon Lagoon, but now going down in a cage. I'm soo glad I checked the sw website and found this. I guess it pays for Mom to surf on the web.:surfweb:

Do they automatically take pictures and then offer them to you after the dive? How much are the pictures?

We did it today and it was incredible. You are in the water about 30 minutes and move from one side to the other and back again. I am slightly claustrophobic but had no trouble being down there with the mask on my head. My 11 yo DD was a bit afraid to do it at first, but we managed to convince her to at least try it and there was no turning back! A photographer takes photos above water and you get all of them on a CD included in the rate. You aren't allowed to take an underwater camera with you, so make sure you have someone to take photos of you after you are in the tank. Some of the sharks come really close and they are amazing to see up close. It does take at least 2 hours to complete by the time you check in, do the orientation, get on wet suits, do the "dive" and then get back out of the suits, shower and get dressed. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who isn't otherwise a diver!!!

Sharon, thanks for the update. Ds was wondering about if you could take a underwater camera. I'll be sure to take mine to take plenty of pics of him while he's "swimming with the fishes".

No, they do not allow. Sorry, we wish we could have used ours too. Said that if it broke, pieces would end up in tank.:sad1:

Interesting question mom just brought up...What do you wear on your feet in the tank? Water shoes? Nothing?

Wasn't sure if the bodysuit had feet or not.

Thanks!

I have a quick question. First of all thank you for the great info. I am going to surprise my husband with the dive for our anniversary. But I was wanting my two boys to be able to view it. Can you see it very well from the restaurant? Thank you for the tip about the viewing area. I was thinking about making a reservation but I was not sure my boys would like to eat there. Also that is so cool about the microphone. My boys are so excited to be able to see their dad. Being able to watch will be a great experience for the boys.

Again that is cool about the CD. My husband was really wanting to take pics but to know about the CD will be a big help.

Thanks again for the great post

Do you have to make a reservation at the restaurant or can you just go in?

They have boots and you also wear gloves. Totally covered I guess in case you stick a finger out and it gets nipped;)

If you are front row, you can. We waved to people and they waved back so I guess they could see us:)

I read elsewhere that there is a viewing area in the restaurant. It was just my DD and I so we didn't have any viewers. If you want to dine there, you will probably need a reservation.
