disturbing? -medical records/coding (question for coders/billers/physicians)

I have been a certified coder for years and am not surprised to here this. As far as needing more information I assume it would be no different than a billing service needing more information.
As for ICD-10. Can't wait but really I can wait.

i don't know about the whole outsourcing thing, but my bff is a coder.

when she see's different license plates (ours are 3 letters, space, 3 numbers) she tells me what it is  or whatever disease/ailment a person on tv has...it cracks me up every time.

do ya'll do that too?

yes I do!:rotfl:

I am on the other side...I process the claims ya'll send me and some of the data entry is done by an outside company. Not sure where they are located. Where I work we get the claims that failed the claims edit process. Usually means something was entered wrong and the system won't accept it. The correct information is there, just not entered or entered incorrectly.

And no I am not ready for ICD-10...I doubt our systems are either.

"I'm not sure how this is possibly HIPAA compliant"

Well, why wouldn't it be? I assume any agency that takes care of these things has clauses about privacy, etc etc...why wouldn't an agency in, say, Daksh not be able to comply with that?

I'd think it's even MORE private b/c they aren't going to run into a patient at the grocery store!

Highly educated people in a very "wired" country (at least, the urban parts) who help keep costs down? AND won't accidentally gossip about something they saw in records to a friend of the patient? sign me up!

I am agreeing with Molly here. I get concerns abotu job loss, but I don;t see how it is somehow LESS private for a true stranger on the other side of the world to process my medical records than someone who lives in town (or two towns over) with me:confused3

Constantly. The time of day, a phone number and account number. I'm glad it cracks you up. Good to know that maybe when I draw attention to it I'm not driving everyon nuts.
