District Heights, MD -- where exactly is this?

My son has an AAU basketball tournament at the end of the month (March Madness at District Heights, MD). Our coach will be giving us info for lodging, but being the impatient planner that I am, I'd like to start searching for hotel deals near there. I know that it is southeast of DC, but I'm having problems searching for hotels using District Heights....any suggestions?

It looks like about 9 miles from DC, I would just use DC as my search area. Good luck to your son and his team, enjoy!!!!!

Thanks Dan. That's all I could find out too. I was wondering if someone in that area could tell me what that area is commonly referred to (ex. Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, etc.)

District Heights is in Prince George's County, Maryland. It's very close to Suitland and Camp Springs , which will probably both yield search results. I would actually recommend that you stay elsewhere. There are oodles of places that would only be a half-hour drive along the beltway that are much nicer and more safe...just be sure to pick someplace close to a beltway exit.

Thanks for the info.... Unfortunately since the tournament is being held there we will probably be staying somewhere near District Heights. I'll make sure to pass along what you have said to our coach so that he can take that into consideration when looking for hotels.

Echoing ryanpatricksmom sentiments. Having lived in the MD/DC area for most of my life I would NOT recommend lodging IN (or really even near) District Heights. If the coach insists I'd want a hotel with interior corridors. Here's a sample of last week's police reports for the area. I wouldn't even accept a job in the area when I lived up there.
