They tell you it's never too early to start planning right??

Well I know with my current financial situation i can't become a DVC member, but I am looking at the distant future and I have a couple questions, that maybe some of your DVC pro's can answer..

1) Is Poly really not a DVC resort?? Found that kinda shocking...never been there or stayed there but looks like an amazing place.

2) Points... How many would you recommend to purchase, especially if you are hoping to stay lets say 10 days a year there?? I know the dvd says 260, and after doing research that sounded good..but then i wouldnt mind going more then once a year either..hehe..Just trying to get some ideas here...

3) Best way to pay.. well of course cash is, but would you rather do a low interest credit card or financing thru DVC...I was thinking CC if it has to be..

4) Benefits... what type of extra benefits are there for being a member, i kinda looked over the DVC site and they just get a general idea...

I know these sound like basic questions but i am just trying to get an idea for the future..Its not something that will happen soon but i kinda was just building an idea for something in the future, something i have been thinking bout for a while just never had the money to do it..if i had more time my last disney trip i woulda took the "tour"

But any help, advice or whatever you can provide i'd appreciate it, greatly. Thanks.

No, Poly is not a DVC resort, but I'm sure you would have no trouble finding people who wish they would make it one myself included.

When we first bought in we went resale. We bought a 230 point contract and are currently at 505 points with multiple contracts. Be careful of addontitis. Only you know which of the DVC resorts you like and how often and what time of year you would go. I suggest buying where you want to stay and figure out when you want to go. This will help with how many points you need.

Like you said, cash. If not either of the other ways work, but a low interest rate card should get you a better rate. I thought DVC rates were around 11%

The site gives you some ideas and I'm sure someone else can elaborate, but we like the AP discount

The general logic is buy where you most want to stay since that is the only guarantee you have in the long run (i.e., being able to book at your home resort earlier than non-home resorts). Determine how, when, and how long you're most likely to travel, then look up the points needed for that particular resort. That will give you a starting point, though it is possible that particular time you think you will travel will change or the point values themselves for that time could change. Still, it's a starting point.

4) Benefits... what type of extra benefits are there for being a member, i kinda looked over the DVC site and they just get a general idea...As suggested above, the only benefit you can be reasonably assured of is the ability to book your home resort early--currently 11 months vice 7 months at a non-home resort. Everything else is just a perk, and perks can be taken away at a moment's notice. Currently, there are some discounts, such as the AP price break, but you can't count on them nor should you make a DVC purchase with anything in mind other than you are paying for deluxe accomodations at WDW for the next three decades or so.

Most people, myself included, have good experiences with the tour, but keep in mind that the tour guide's job is to sell you his/her product--DVC. They typically aren't pressure salespersons, and they can answer a lot of questions. However, your best bet is to read, read, and then read some more on the various threads and forums on the DIS.
