We're booked on a Carnival cruise and one of the ports is Port Canaveral. If we wanted to take that day to go to the Magic Kingdom, how long would it take us to drive there?

About an hour, maybe 45 minutes if you make good time . . . plus the time to get the rental car . . .

Mapquest says 1 hour 5 minutes. Remember they are toll roads too. Not a lot but bring several dollars in change for both directions (not all quarters).

Plan on an hour to get to the rental car place and get a car. Dropping off the car could be as short as 30 minutes, but again plan on an hour.

Here is "just my opinion"
Personally, I would find this extremly frustrating - 4 hours in transit, $70+ per person for tickets for about a half a day in one of the parks, and you won't be there at opening time so the park and lines will be fairly long. My family has a flight into Orlando around 9am the day before our cruise. We will not be going to one of the parks that day because we would not get to a park until around 11am and I won't pay that much for 1/2 day at the park. Again that's us, you might have other thoughts. And yes, it's going to kill us being so close but not going into a park!! OK not so much since the following day we will be on the SHIP :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

with the tolls take Ezpass from the Northeast?

Will the tolls take sunpass?

They should, as they worked for us on our last cruise back in 5/07. We're heading back for a 4/08 one, so let me know if it works for you when you head over..... I'd also checkout the Sunpass site as it should have the answer...

Tom

Have you looked into going to NASA for the day? That is much closer and I have to agree with those who posted the distance and expense wouldn't make it worth going to WDW.

that stinks! I thought EZ Pass was going national? I know it works as far north as Maine and down through DC. So much for packing an EZ Pass transponder on my next trip.:sad2:

Sunpass worked for us! Of the 3 tollbooths, the first was labelled sunpass and gave a quarter discount and the other 2 were labelled E-Pass but took the sunpass. Just wanted to update you!

I have made the drive from the PC to WDW many times. It takes 1 hour and fifteen minutes from the port to the Magic Kingdom parking lot. Then you must catch a tram to the transportation center (10-15 minutes), then the Monorail or the ferry to the entrance of MK (10 to 30 minutes). Then you must go through security( 1 to 10 minutes). You should prebuy your entrance tickets. If not, you must allow from 10 to 30 minutes.
Without purchasing tickets, the trip from PC to inside the MK averaged 2 hours.
I've made this trip 30 or more times (I had many business trips to PC.).

Are you suuuure?

Not trying to question you or anything. But, according to MapQuest, it should take 30 minutes from Disney to the Airport, but it usually takes us 45 minutes. Then, MapQuest says to plan on 45-50 minutes to Port Canaveral. Of course that could mean anything from 35 minutes to an hour.

I just cannot imagine it taking any less than 1:15 to get from Disney to the Port.........BUT if I am wrong, someone please set me straight so we can plan how long to allow for the drive from either Disney or MCO to the Port.

It took me 45 minutes from the Hertz counter in PC to the parking lot of Animal Kingdom on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago. I didn't go the way that takes you by the airport and then on to the interstate, but the shortcut with higher tolls (can't remember what everything is called, but it is all marked well). HOWEVER, when you are trying to get to the port and time really matters, always allow for more time than you think it will take, regardless. What is the harm in planning for an hour and 15 minutes and getting there a little early if you are wrong?:goodvibes

Hmmm...must've been speeding! My mom lived right off 528 in Cocoa, and it took me exactly 1 hour from the Swan to her house taking 417 to 528. It would take longer to go to Port Canaveral, and add at least 10 more minutes to the Magic Kingdom.

Maybe so:) I certainly regret answering the question at this point!;)
