DISSAPOINTED!!! CR...long!!

We had about the same experience at the Contemporary, also with a dirty pool, a closed pool for the entire week, and the fact that housekeeping lost a stuffed animal of ours that had great sentimental value.

We were on the 12th floor and complained to the concierge, guest services, and a guest services manager. NOTHING was done. They could not have been any less responsive if they had been legally dead. I complained every day for the last 4 days of our stay and they could not have been less interested or helpful.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. The Contemporary really is a dog. I hope this rehab helps, but I'm not holding my breath.

This is just my opinion of course, but to us, the Contemporary Resort is kind of gross. If the monorail wasnt going through it, and it wasnt next to Magic Kingdom, it would be empty. The "Jetsons" look is not cutting it anymore. There is nothing contemporary aobut it anymore. It just dirty and smelly and certainly not an "upscale" anything. Its like its a resort without an identity and there is nothing really that fits it. :confused3 That would be the perfect place to put something like "Mickey and Minnies Tower Hotel" or something like that. Really do it up with the rooms decorated in different characters and things like that. Then they could charge double and get it.

I would definitely have let them know if a room was unacceptable at the time I stayed there.

That said, the new renovated rooms look extremely upscale - I liked the Contemporary before, and now it will truly be a deluxe experience.

Oh, it's ALL location. If it were located where the AKL is, noone would stay there.

It was truly something "back-in-the-day" -- the source of much of my fixation over WDW in my teens. It's relevance as anything other than "a nice hotel" is decreased markedly as we've entered the age that the CR was themed to represent.

This is why dh and I refer to the CR as the "outdated resort". :rotfl:

To the OP, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. You're right, every hotel room ought to at least be clean. If you ever make it back to WDW, I can tell you we had a good experience at the Poly. Although the furniture was a little old and the lighting was bad, the room was always clean, and the staff was helpful and friendly, and did their best to right the one little problem we had. I hope your hotel experience didn't ruin your trip, and that you enjoyed your time in the parks, etc.

CM service quality seems to track guest behavior, pretty closely.

Perhaps. But certainly not always by any means. That actually sounds like an excuse to me. Guests are the customers, not vice versa.

I find CMs to be, by and large, incredible. There are certain areas, though, where indifference seems pretty clearly part of the WDW handbook.

There are so many better alternatives for high-performing customer-facing staff, today, even despite recent economic downturns. There is therefore an increasingly smaller pool of good people willing to take the typical abuse many customer-facing staff members encounter every day. As a result, customer service, overall, across-the-board, has suffered.

I am surprised at your experience at the CR , We stayed on the 12th floor in July and the room was wonderfuly clean. The only problem we had were all the crows on the balcony.... :rotfl: ..

We had a horrible experience at the POFQ and moved to the CR. We couldnt have been happier there, and they upgraded our room for free because of the problems we had at POFQ.

I agree some CMs act as they could care less about the customers (big problem at POFG imho) But the folks at CR really tried to make up for it.

I hope you give WDW another chance and hope you have much better service.

Only 31 days to our next trip!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Has anyone else found this a problem at the CR?

Yes, sadly on our Dec 2204 trip the room was somewhat like yours. Lots of crumbs and dirty on the floor next to the bed, nightstand, and chest of drawers the tv sits on. It looked like it had been very long since the room had a good cleaning and the door on the cabinet leading to the fridge was falling off when we opened it. I called maintenance but it was still pretty much the same after they "fixed" it. I was pretty disappointed in our stay and probably wont stay there again.

So was the only problem that the room wasn't clean when you checked in? To me it is simple, ask for a different room. :confused3 And why did you take your anger out on the person you were asking for towels? How did you know it was the same person who failed to clean your room? To me your post seems to suggest that you were angry(and rightly so) that your room wasn't ready. But you could have asked for a different room, and you did not. Instead you choose to let it snowball and become angry about towels to the point of yelling at houskeeping? So this ruined your whole vacation?
I guess I don't get it. :confused3

oh no!!! You giuys are really making me FREAK OUT! I am staying at the CR for our first trip to Disney. id did a LOT of research and picked that place because of the walk to the MK. OMG, if its that ****ty I am going to raise HOLY HELL in that lobby and all over the place.

We are *supposed* to be in a refurbished room. that is what Disney told my TA when she called them, that the area we will be in is under renovvation now and will be ready by the time we check in Dec 12.

Aw man!, what do I do now? The reservation is paid in full so I doubt I can change it. I am sooooooooooooooooo bummed!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, anyone can have a bad experience, at any hotel so I can;t hold that against the theme.

But to me the CR has always been a resort I don;t get. I like taking the monorail through it, and having a drink on the Concourse and the California Grill is great, but I feel like I am in a mall more then a hotel.

I believe, correct me if I am wrong, its the only deluxe without private hallways.

It just as the feel I'm in a malll or , dare I say it, dorm.

But to each his own...

I'm staying in the Tower on Dec 16-19. I'm not worried. If the room is a mess and housekeeping uneven, I'll simply change rooms. You can't worry about what you can't control.

bad things happen at every resort, and there are ways to get them fixed. they will do everything they can to make your stay magical, just be nice and respectful and things get done a lot faster than being rude and mean to the CM's.

thats always been the case with us!

and CR is one of my favorite resorts along with The Boardwalk Inn and Polynesian! :)

p.s. i think the only rooms that are guaranteed refurbished are the ones in concierge...not too sure, but just want you to know before you raise holy hell :3dglasses

Applechips....do not let one persons bad experience ruin your trip in advance....as I posted earlier we had an immaculately clean room, excellent service and then some throughout our stay at the CR tower during the exact same time the OP was having her difficulties (they left extra towels without us even asking both AM and at PM turn down, cleaned the balcony daily and left daily towel animals)....if you are staying in the tower the only redone rooms are on the 10th floor (the Atrium Club) and on the bayview side of the 9th floor. Currently no other rooms in the tower are being rehabbed. But do not despair....even an "old" room can be quite pleasent. In my experience the nicer you are the more the CM's will do for you.

To those who feel the CR is past its prime and not worth staying at....you obviously have not tried to book a room there lately....the tower is already sold out for all but 2 days in the month of December and for most of January....less availability that any of the other deluxe resorts....and as I checked in last week the CM told me over 60% of their guests are return guests.... so I guess that means that the OP had an unusual experience...not the norm.

Applechips,

Although the CR doesn't have the theming that alot of Disney's other resorts have, it really is a nice resort. I really enjoyed staying there in September. The close proximity to MK, the ease of the monorail and the great staff made it a super place to stay.

Don't go by one persons bad time, I think you'll enjoy your stay there.

Have fun!!

Just because other peoples' opinions differ, doesn't make ours less valid. Personally, I think it's an ugly hotel and I wouldn't want to stay there, although I actually considered it solely due to it's location next to MK (as others feel is it's best feature). The fact that other people disagree doesn't mean that our opinions are wrong, it just means that people are different, and what a boring world it would be if this weren't true, right? :)

Everyone has their own opinions, and may voice them here on the boards. :) Please remember to be nice when posting.

To appease those who are nervous about their upcoming CR stays...I'm going to venture a claim that most rooms are going to be in very nice condition. Honestly, I've stayed at WDW numerous times, mostly in the deluxes but also in the moderates on a couple occasions, and I've always had a very clean and well-maintained room. I'm sure there are exceptions and unfortunately, some people have had really dirty rooms, but I'm going to guess that these are exceptions rather than the rule. And if your room is dirty, you can always request a change. So don't bother yourself with worrying....you're going to Disney after all :flower: :wizard:

We stayed one night last month at the Contemporary on the 7th floor. We were very disappointed, especially in the cleanliness of the room. Our son slept on the daybed and he noticed that there was a half-eaten candy cane on the floor behind the daybed! GROSS! I realize that they don't pull those things out every day to vaccum behind them but come on, it was October - candy-cane season was ten months ago! Between the dust, crumbs and the candy cane it was obvious that they hadn't vaccumed/cleaned back there for quite a while!
