I found these (bright green) plastic locks at Target in their luugage dept. They are one time use only and can be either twisted or cut off. American Tourister makes these and they are 8 in a pkg for about 1.99. I haven't used these yet for our upcoming trip. I think they will be great if airport security has to cut your locks. I know I don't want use the locks that can wilth the suitcases. HTH someone.

I bought some of those on clearance at Target a month or so ago and plan on using them in January!::yes::

I guess I'm confused... (normal for me :) ).

What good is a lock if it can just be twisted off? If you are just looking for a way to keep a zipper from opening or something, why not just use a plastic zip tie (cable tie type of thing)? A lot cheaper than 8 for $2.

Also, rather than lock the bag, we always just put a nice bright strap around it -- keeps it closed no matter what and has the added advantage of making the bag easy to spot on the luggage carousel.

I had thought that these would be good to use if your luggage were searched. These stand out more than a twist tie. If the lock stayed on, you would know that your luggage hadn't been searched. I wanted something more secure that wouldn't cause me grief if it were cut off.

One needs a scissor or knife to cut them off, right?

I need something like this for my son's duffle bags. He's flying to Europe, but he won't have anything sharp to open the ties with.

The ones that you buy at Target are twist off, you don't need to cut them off. Zip ties will need to be cut off, and since you can't take scissors on the plane, you may be out of luck.

I bought some of the new TSA approved locks for our luggage. I think they were $5.99 for 2 at the Samsonite store. According to the literature, the TSA has a set of keys coded to the locks and they can use their keys to open the locks. We had not problems with them last August. I still felt my stuff was secure and TSA could get in if needed.

Have fun.

If there is an outside pocket on the duffel or suitcase you could put scissors or nail clips there.

If you are going to use ties then you would need to stand there while they inspect your suitcase in some airports. Then you could put the ties on. Otherwise they will take them off and you wouldn't have them on for your flight.

I wouldn't trust the TSA locks just yet. If the inspectors are busy by the time they get the key or combo for them you could be delayed or they just destroy the locks. I think it is too new for everyone to be aware of how these locks work.
