Disneyworld in January

Hello, I've been to Disneyworld multiple times during the summer but I'm planning a trip in January of 2006. I've read/heard different things about disneyworld in January and was wondering if anyone could help. I've heard they restrict operating hours for this month but the schedule on the website is not yet posted. Do they still have fireworks and illuminations during January? Also, is it true they usually shut down some of the rides during January since it is a least crowded time? I'm sure its warmer in Orlando in January than it is where I live (usually in the 20's) but are the pools and water parks open? Any opinions on if this is a good month to go or not? Thank you.

We where there last January 27-31, weather on the cold side.low 60 day into the 40 at night. Crowds where low, a big plus.

The pools are open and heated. Hours are shorter but crowds are low. The last week in January can be swimmable temperatures or it can be chilly. And yes they still have the fireworks, Illuminations, Fantasmic. Usually one of the big water parks will be closed. All in all its a great week to go...I used to go that week all of the time. Only once was it cold and that was because it was just a touch earlier than when you are going.

I was there Jan 9-14 2005, the weather was about 80 in the daytime, 60 at night and the crowds were very low. I don't recall any major rides being closed and the MK was open later (8 or 9)at least two of the nights. I saw illuminations and the fireworks at MK. If I recall, MK was open to 6, AK to 5, MGM 6 or 8 (I forget) and Epcot 7 for the front and 9 for the countries. We sort of planned our days to be in either MK,AK,or MGM, and then end up in Epcot in the evening. I visited WDW during January about 7 times since 1977, and I am trying mid December this trip.

We were there at the end of January this year and the weather was very, very pleasant! We usually go in August and my boys loved the fact they could walk in the parks without sweating and enjoy the outside verses hurrying to the next AC building. Crowds were none. You can potentially have very chilly weather in Jan. But.......the norm is very nice!

We are also going in Jan and were wondering about the weather and crowd sizes. After previous visits in April and May, I think the cooler weather will be nice for a change. The only draw back to this visit is we will probably come home to snow.

We prefer to go in January. We will be at WL at the beginning of the month and can't wait! It is considerably less crowded and the temp is Great (usually...only one "cold" experience). We have never had a problem with rides being closed. Understand, that rides do have to go through refurbishment. Keep a check of what's being refurbed on here or mousesavers. Both great sources of info! Like I said before, we've never been forced to miss out on a great ride. And the park hours are out. the earliest the MK closes is 8:00p.m.! Not bad...not bad at all. Enjoy!

Love,love, love to go in Jan-our last 4 trips have been in Jan and while the weather is a gamble-some weeks we've gone from wearing a bathing suit to wearing a winter coat-the trade off in the lower crowds, shorter lines and value season pricing is more than worth it. IMO, I don't go to WDW for a "hot, beach vacation" I go to see the attractions, and I'd much rather do that in cooler weather than hot summer months.

Weather is unpredectable, but well worth going in Jan. No Crowds at all.
we have been there 5 Januarys in 10 years. Best time to go, I shouldnt be telling everyone this, now everyone will show up !

I am thinking of going to Disney in January also. The past few visits we have gone right after Thanksgiving, it's been a great time to go. I'm wondering if the 2nd week of January is like that.???
Also wondering if anyone has any suggestions where to stay on site with 5 people. My husband , my son (20 yrs old) , my son's girlfriend , my daughter (10 yrs old) and myself .

We are going Jan 2-10 for the very frist time and I need to know what to plan for. We want to everything, but also know thats impossible. Where can I go to find out what will be open? Including water parks.

You can check allearsnet.com for hours of operation before you go and for what will be closed/open. Typically only one water park is open in Jan.

Since Jan 2nd is a Monday, you may luck out on overflow crowds from Christmas/New Years, although it's hard to say. Some people may stay over a day or two extra. By the 4th, most of the overflow will be gone. Parks are typically less crowded during this week, it's a terrific time to go. Last 2 of our trips were this first week and there was hardly any lines for anything.

Weather is a gamble. Coming from Michigan in Jan . even 50degrees felt balmy. Nights can get chilly, so pack pair of pants/sweatshirt.

You can check on the Disney web site for rides that are due for some kind of major maintance or updating. But usually it is limited to 2-3 for the whole park. I think you will have a great time.

the disney site now has the Jan. hours out as well as most of the schedules for Wishes etc. There are not alot of refurbs scheduled either! We are going in Jan as well and can't wait!

Test Track is set to be closed for rehab. And of the water parks, Typhoon Lagoon will be closed and Blizzard Beach will be open.

We're going in January also, so I've been following the refurbs.

lovelady....we had the same issue and we solved it by booking two rooms at PC and requesting adjoining rooms. they can't guarantee your request until you check in but i figure the chances that its too booked to do that in January aren't very good. we have 5 in our party...DH, DD3, my brother and my brother's GF...we figure we can all hang out in one room while the baby sleeps in the other. i'm even going to bring the monitor so i can hear her all the time....she's 3 but still my baby...we booked thru dreamsunlimited with merrie and got amazing rates!
