I have not been to disney world for 26 years and this is my family's first trip. Would Disneyworld be fun for a 1 1/2 year old?

A big YES! My kids have grown up going to WDW..The first time my oldest DD was there she had just turned 2. Everyone said "don't take her she won't remember anything"..well I DO! I remember her face when Snow White (her favorite) shook her hand at the night parade. She just sat there mesmerized with her mouth open. We have it on tape & it's priceless.

My advice is to make sure you bring your stroller so you little one is comfy. Bring snacks (cheerios etc) & juice so they have something to munch on.
Little ones love the carosel, its a small world, dumbo & most of the shows.

I second that. We went with our son when he was 11 months and 23 months. He loved it both times. At 11 months he had just started walking and he was very into the characters - I have some great pictures of him with them. He went on alot of the rides with us and we all had a great time. I would not hesitate to bring your 18 month old - but as mommykds said I would bring your own stroller and snacks. You will have a great time with lots of memories.

I appreciate knowing that they can go and have fun. Are there any maps to help make this experience easier? Planning guides for toddlers?

As long as you plan plenty of down time, you will all have a great time. Just do the things that are most important to do with him at this age. Character pics, Dumbo and the like are worth the memories and pictures you'll have. You have plenty of time on future trips to "see and do it all" on your vacation. One other suggestion is to go at an off-peak time. We've gone the second weekend of December and the crowds/lines were nothing! A huge bonus if you have a toddler to carry through the lines!

Have a great time planning! :goodvibes

My kids are now 3 and 4 they have been 5 and 6 times already ( can you tell i love the place) . Kids have a wonderful time there.

There are maps in the Passporter guide. We LOVE that book!

Guides: a lot of the Disney websites have travelling guides for toddlers (including allearsnet.com and tourguidemike.com). Plus there is an official WDW with Kids book that you can pick up.

Have a great time! :)

My 10 year old DD still talks about her first trip at almost 3 years old. I think the pictures help her "remember" how much she enjoyed herself. Like the previous posters said, take lots of pictures. You'll be surprised at how much your little one might remember!

I went for the first time when I was 2 and my sister went for the first time when she was 16 months (I was 4). At that time they only had MK and Epcot, so we went to both parks and Sea World and had plenty of down time. We don't remember those trips because we were too young, but we can tell from pictures and videos that we loved it!

I agree - that was just about the same age we took my son for the first time, and now this year will be his 5th trip and he's turning 5 this year. Looking back, that was probably the easiest and one of the most memorable trips we've ever taken. That was also the first time we ever went in early December (2001), and we had fantastic weather and no crowds. He loved the characters, and there's so many rides and shows they can do. One of my all time favorite photos of him is the first time he met one of the characters. I don't know who had a bigger grin on their face in the picture - him looking at Pluto, or me looking at him looking at Pluto.

I bought the "Walt Disney World with Kids" book by Kim Wiley I believe. I knew my way around, but liked reading about how the rides were rated on a scare factor for todlers.

That is a big YES!!! Our dd has been to the world 6 times including the trip tomorrow :goodvibes and she's only 2 1/2 :flower:
Have a great time.

My daughter went to DL at 10 1/2 mos, she went on most everything with me. She loved Mickey Mouse, got to meet him before the parade, it was awesome! She doesn't remember, but I do.....

Another big YES!

We took my nephew in early December when he was almost two and we all had a wonderful time! And even now 6 months later, about once a week he tells his mom he wants to go back to Disney World and he loves looking at the photo albums from our trip and talks about riding Dumbo again.

He may not remember the trip years from now, but I know we always will. It was truly magical! :wizard:

I just got back yesterday from a quick 3 night trip with my 2 year old. She loves WDW. All I've heard since DH and I came back from her first visit in January is "teacups mommy, teacups". It was the first ride we went on and she was in heaven. Pooh was good, Barnstormer was fun, Small World entrancing and Dumbo, ok. But teacups are still, far and away, her favorite ride. I think that your little one will enjoy your visit.
