DisneySweetie's Wedding PJ & Disneymoon PreTrippie: UPDATE 12/07 *Backwards Bride :)*

sorry, i'm a little late replying to this today...i've been shopping...ok, i think the dress looks amazing, the back looks great already, once they take up the halter to make it fit you, the problem that you think you have with your middle will go away, notice i said the problem that you THINK you have...i think the dress looks great, the veil looks so good with it and those buttons look amazing, even with a bustle...there's my opinion!!!

I think you look stunning. The dress totally fits your body and shows of your gorgeous curves without making you look frumpy. It's nice to see that a fellow curvy girl can pull off that kind of dress! From the sounds of it the dress will fit perfectly into your wedding. It all sounds great, can't wait to hear more!

Your dress is beautiful and as others have said, you totally pull it off. The back is absolutely gorgeous! I love the buttons. I don't know about the bustle. Personally, I might look into other options. You can see a line where the corset bra ends. Give spanx a try and maybe the sewn-in cups or even (I know, not ideal) sticky tape. Proper undergarments can make a HUGE difference. Before I had cups sewn in, I hated how my dress fit. Then all of a sudden, I was happy again with it again. I definitely don't think you need to go searching for a new dress. This one really is perfect for the style of wedding you want. And don't worry about having a little mini-breakdown over your dress. Perfectly normal, even for a perfectly rational girl. :)

I think you look fantastic in the dress! It really suits you.

I'm going against the grain, and say that I like the bustle. Or more accurately, the idea of the french bustle. It will need a little futzing from the seamstress to get it to sit correctly, but I think it will be pretty.

I think you look fabulous in the dress! :flower3: You don't look one bit boxy either. I don't really understand the whole rationale behind the corset if you do not have tummy issues. Maybe you should try the dress with just a regular strapless bra and see if that eases some of your worries. You will be a beautiful bride no matter what though!

I'm glad you are feeling better about it! We women ALL tend to be paranoid, sometimes it just takes some perfect strangers to get it through your head that you look BEAUTIFUL! haha.

And I had to jump in on the Spanx thing...they are GREAT! I got some for mine, I think it's called the Power Panty, lol. But they are comfortable and just help smooth things and give you great support. I think that would be great under your dress, and keep you from being able to see the bottom of a corset. And the legs are thinner like panty hose so you could def pull them up so they don't show. Look at barenecessities.com, they have a huge selection of stuff like that!

Thanks so much for the spanx advice. I picked up two different kinds over the weekend from Nordstroms. I will try them on under my dress and choose which one is best. There are so many body shaping undergarmets out there. Thanks for advising me on the brand to choose. I would not have known where to start.

I have to confess, I haven't worn Spanx - I've just heard lots of great things! Also, regarding the bustle, personally, I am not a fan of French bustles like they have done on your dress - I think they look like the dress got caught in something. I prefer the traditional bustle, where they bring the fabric up and the outside instead of tucking it under. But that's just me - your seamstress will prolly know exactly the right kind of bustle for that dress!

I really kind of like the ballroom bustles. I admit that I also have hesitation when it comes to the french bustle. I not sure what the seamstress can do, but I will ask. Thanks.

I've heard great things about Spanx as well, but haven't tried them yet.

You do look beautiful in your dress. I think I see the bottom of the corset in the first picture, so maybe the Spanx would help. Other than that, you look great.

Thank you for compliment. It has been so useful to come to these boards and chat with all of you about my options. Off with the corset, on with Spanx.

First I liked the dress on the model and now I love it. Honestly It looks really good on you. My advice: RELAX. I know it's a litlle bit dificult when planning a wedding but sometimes you have to take a break and breath. And one more time: I love the dress on you.

Oh, that is really sweet. It has been a little hard for me to compare myself to the model with less hips. But I am becoming more comfortable with my curves and the way the dress accentuates them. With the correct alterations, I hope it will be ok. Thanks.

I love the buttons as well. Thanks for understanding my concerns. I believe most of them will go away after the halter is lifted a little. Thanks for giving your opinion. Believe it or not, it really helps.

It's nice to get the opinion of other curvy girls. You probably have the same concerns about your body as I do. I just gotta keep reminding myself the Mike loves my curves. Getting the perfect dress is mostly about impressing the groom. While I may still be a little self conscious, at least I am feeling a little braver.

I was glad to pop over to your planning journal and read about the success with alterations. Sounds like I might have to have her try several things in order to make sure I find the best options. Your success has given me hope. I don't dislike the dress anymore. I will work with the seamstress until I love it.

I think you look fantastic in the dress! It really suits you.

I'm going against the grain, and say that I like the bustle. Or more accurately, the idea of the french bustle. It will need a little futzing from the seamstress to get it to sit correctly, but I think it will be pretty.

The french bustle is growing on me a little more everytime I look at that photo. I still want to try for a ballroom bustle. But because of the shape of the gown, I'm not so sure a ballroom bustle will work. So, at least the french bustle is a good option.

Strapless bra it is. There are a couple great ones at Victoria's Secret. I had to order the one I wanted so I could get the nude color. Is it just me or are they always understocked in the stores in the smaller sizes? Normally I wear gap body bras or sports bras, but the VS bra seemed like a better cut for this dress. I'll try it. If it doesn't work, I will ask for cups.

Everything looks beautiful... can't wait to read more!!!

Thanks for reading. Welcome aboard.

Thanks everyone for the comments and the advice. The reassurance has helped immensely. Stay tuned for more.

Hey again to all of you who have jumped aboard!

This weekend was quite busy. On Wednesday, Mike’s stepmom called to verify our reservation for the no host kick-off dinner. The restaurant told her they had no record of the reservation. WHAT?!? So Mike’s stepmom contacted us and told us we needed to choose another restaurant. We were interested in My Big Fat Greek Restaurants. We had never been to one, so we decided we would have a nice dinner on Saturday to test it out. We just had to choose a location.

I’m kind of stressing over how much driving is going to have to do. The wedding location is on the north side of the valley. We live on the south side of the valley. Our apartment clubhouse is where we are holding the open house. The airport is kind of in between the two. So, no matter what, people are going to have to drive for the weekend activities. However, I’m not so sure many people will come into town early for Friday’s kick-off dinner (maybe immediate families and the bridal party). So, we decided on the location closer to the ceremony location. The hotels that have been blocked off are more near there.

My Big Fat Greek Restaurant is super yummy. I didn’t really think that we would be fans of Greek food. I was dead wrong. We wanted to order half the menu. And I really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. We talked briefly with the manager about putting in a reservation. I think this is actually working out for the better, but it was a few days of unnecessary stress.

What else? We went and picked up some good pens for addressing the invitations. We were so indecisive. Part of the problem is that the plum ink turned out a little browner and less purple than I expected. I still like them. And I really like the pen we chose. I will take photos after we address a couple of them. We chose a darker pen than I originally imagined. But that’s because of the photo I chose for our stamps.

stamp.jpg

Yes, the photo is a little dark. But it the best close-up picture of both our faces that fit well on the stamp. I had to order the smallest stamp from zazzle because the invitations are a little smaller than some. We have decided we’re going to put the stamps on and then write the addresses. So, we have to wait until we get the stamps later this week.

We also scheduled our engagement photos. Yes, perhaps this should have been done earlier, but we want it done outside and it’s still a bit hot here right now. Plus, work is super busy right now. So, the afternoon of October 4th it is. We haven’t chosen a location for it yet, but our photographer is looking into some options for us. Not sure what we’re going to wear. Either black shirts with jeans or white shirts with jeans. I’ll have to try on a few outfits and see.

I am looking to make my wedding place cards. I am using the following supplies along with white cotton paper.

placecards.jpg

punch.jpg

The second photo refers to a 2-inch punch that I have. Basically, I am going to have green and blue place cards with white flowers on their upper left corner. The flowers will have two layers of the white cotton paper and will be fastened through the center with the light yellow snap. I will curl the flower petals up a little with a pencil.

Anyway, I need a white thin marker or a thick pen to write on them with. I picked up a white chalk marker over the weekend. If that doesn't work, I will be looking for a white paint marker.

That’s my update for now. More later.

So, more updates…

Mike’s stepmom got My Big Fat Greek restaurant reserved. Mmmm, my tummy growls just thinking of it. I’m glad this worked out ok.

Over the weekend we finalized the tuxes. We weren’t sure whether we wanted all the groomsmen in black shirts or white shirts. We chose black. It work better because they will be wearing just black and their color. The BMs will also be wearing just black and their color. Now, Mike will be wearing a white shirt and I will be wearing my white dress. We’re the only ones in the bridal party wearing white. I like this. Mike also was a little indecisive about the neru tux jacket. It’s kind of an asian looking jacket with a mandarin collar.

neru.jpg

He was a little concerned about how it would look with a normal european collared shirt (instead of a mandarin collar). But I kept pointing out to him that all the models and the catalog were wearing it with normal european collared shirts. He was also concerned about the length. The one in the store was too small. So the length didn’t look right because it was too tight. But I was sure it would look fine once they got his correct size. I really liked the idea of him having a tux that was slightly different from the groomsmen. Plus, the neru jacket really peaked his interest when we first went looking for tuxes. He is getting the honey vest. It's really a lot lighter than in this photo.

honey_bellagio.jpg

Here's the completed look:

groomstux.jpg

Oh, and I never posted what the FOB was wearing. He's going to be in a gray tux with a very light silver (almost white) vest. A gray tux may sound like an odd choice, but my dad always wore gray suits back in the day. And he looks great in them. Plus, I think it really helps him not match the groomsmen but still be dressed up enough to walk me down the aisle.

graytux.jpg

What I love about all of this is that all the vests are the "bellagio" vests from after hours. We are using every color the vest comes in. The groomsman vests will match the BMs wraps. (The orchid color is a little pinker than what shows in this photo and the shirts will be black).

groomsmentuxes.jpg

Mike's honey vest is such a light sandy gold color, it just looks great with his skin tone and hair without being too accented. And the light silver looks great with the gray tux for the FOB. The after hours ladies were truly impressed with our choices and how it all worked out. And since these are all accent colors, it's not going to look too much like a rainbow. I am super excited about all of these colors and I'm glad it all finally came together.

We decided to put the money down on everyone’s tuxes. This way, all the groomsmen have to do is go in and get measured. Then they can all go in on Saturday morning (day before the wedding) together to get them and pay for the rest of them.

One of my bridesmaids ordered her dress. The others will be ordering theirs by the end of the week. They should have plenty of time to get the halter straps altered before they have to fly here for the wedding.

I picked up my wedding dress on Saturday. I have an alteration appointment this weekend, but I have to wait for my victoria’s secret strapless bra to get delivered. The store never has my size, so I had to order it. Therefore, I might have to call and reschedule. No worries. The alterations department seemed to think that I should have no problem getting it done as long as I did it before mid October. So I have about a month. I would like to get in sooner than later so that I have extra time if something else needs to be done. Plus, the alterations will help me feel better about how I look in the dress.

I also picked up the bridesmaid wraps. I love the colors. Sometimes I forget exactly what the colors look like. The online colors aren’t quite right, so it’s hard to remember. We will take these up to our venue when we are choosing table linens. That way we can match it all up nicely. I thought about shipping the BMs their wraps etc so that they could put together their look at home. But I don’t want them to forget them. So, I will be keeping them here with me. We left the flowers for their hair at David’s Bridal. My consultant is going to spray them with the dye. Hopefully I can pick those up when I go in for alterations.

I’m on the hunt for dangly earrings. I need them to be sterling silver or white gold and fabulous. Hahahaha! I have two holes in each ear lobe and one hole in my left upper cartilage. I normally wear small white gold hoops everyday. I planned on wearing dangly earrings and some sort of posts for my wedding. But this is proving to be harder than I expected. Apparently I am picky. And my ears are very sensitive so I can’t just wear a normal pair of fashion earrings. I am sure I can find something, but it might take some time.

Also, I am wondering if I need some sort of bag / purse. Seems like I might need my cell phone and my wallet and a few other emergency items. Part of me just wants to use my everyday Kipling purse. It is light yellow and functional. But part of me feels like I should get something white. However, I think I would only use it for the one day, so I have a hard time justifying the cost. Maybe I’ll try to find one on ebay. Hahahaha! Do you think I should just use my baggallini?

One of my BMs approached me about a girl’s night out. I love the idea. I can’t even remember the last time I really hung out with girls. And now all my girl friends from throughout the years will be in town. I’m super excited. The groomsmen are already planning on surprising Mike with some activities the Friday before the wedding. They will go do something during the day, go to the no host kick-off dinner, and then head back to our apartment for a Halo tournament (Halo is a video game, I am marrying a gamer). Anyway, I wasn’t sure what to do for a girl’s night out. I don’t really want to commit to something during the day. Who knows what little details will have to finished at that point? Plus, I’m encouraging my BMs to fly in that morning, not the night before, so that they won’t have to pay for extra nights at a hotel. Therefore, anything we do will need to be after the dinner. I am not one for dancing and club-hopping or anything. I thought about going to a local improv theater or something. But then I’m not really able to talk to my friends. Then I thought about going to Zoo Lights at the Phoenix Zoo, but by the time we got there after the dinner they would be closing soon. That was also true for a lot of other activities.

So, I think we’re going to go bowling. Hahahaha! There’s this super nice, clean, and hip bowling alley a couple miles from the restaurant. I call it “high class bowling” because it’s a little more expensive and they have modern abstract murals on the wall. Plus, it seems that a lot of people just show up there for cocktails at the bar and such. It’s really not your run-of-the-mill bowling alley. And, well, we used to go bowling ALL the time when I was in high school. Sure, it wasn’t what the cool kids did, but somehow the several groups of friends that my brother and I had always seemed to end up bowling. And we loved it. Anyway, they have “Boogie Bowl” nights on Friday and Saturdays. A flat fee for unlimited games and shoe rental and they have local DJs come and spin. Normally they don’t reserve lanes, but they were willing to make an exception for this occasion. I e-mailed my BMs about it. They have yet to respond, so we will see what they think. I asked for other suggestions, but now I am kind of attached to this one. We can all get feather boas and tiaras and go bowling. So nerdy and but super fun.

What did you gals do or what are you planning on doing for your girl's night out activities?

It seems that my BMs fully agree that bowling for the girl’s night out is a great idea. They seem excited about it. Wow. I haven’t been bowling in forever. I kind of miss it. Maybe DF and I can venture out there to go bowling this weekend. Then again, we have a lot of invitations to address, so maybe later.

The masters swim team has been going well. We’ve been going 4-5 times a week for 90 minutes. And I’ve been trying to keep riding my bike to work most days. But I still haven’t seen much of an improvement. I do feel sore and tired all the time, so something must be working. We are trying this new energy nutritional supplement, so maybe that will help me get up and hit the treadmill a couple times a week.

I did have to cancel my alterations appointment since I am still waiting for the strapless bra to arrive. Victoria’s Secret is moving warehouses right now, so my order that I placed over a week ago hasn’t even shipped yet. I hope it ships next week. I would really like to get in there and see the changes they can make with the alterations. I’ve called the VS stores in my area and they don’t have my size in any of the colors. I really like the bra though, so I don’t want to change to a different one. I hope it will be worth the wait.

I found another hairstyle that I would like to try. Or should I say that DIS user hisprincess found it. I was thinking of trying something like this and the photo she found was perfect. So, I am borrowing it.

hair1.jpg

It’s either this or the curly side ponytail style that I posted earlier. Either way I’m still wearing the flower behind my ear and the veil in the back. I think I want to take off the veil after the ceremony and just wear the flower for the reception. But that will depend on how it all looks together. That and whether or not I still feel like a bride if I’m not wearing the veil.

My mom is going to be hunting for her dress for the wedding over the next few weeks. I want her to stand out nicely but still fit in with the wedding party. I wish I could go shopping with her in order to encourage her, but I can’t take any time off before the wedding. I hope she will send me photos so I can help her choose. The same way I sent her photos when I was trying to choose my wedding dress.

I added the following post to the What was/is your first dance song and father/daughter dance? I need suggestions thread. I thought that since it was relevant to the planning, I would post it in my PJ too.

We're on the hunt for dance songs. Here are our thoughts so far...

The first dance song is still up in the air. Here are some of our possibilities:
Better Together - Jack Johnson
Come What May - Nicole Kidman & Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge)
Everything - Michael Buble
Broken Road - Rascal Flatts
We'll probably end up using the Jack Johnson song. The lyrics are so perfect and it's kind of a light do-do-do song - my favorite. But we also have quite a connection with the Moulin Rouge song, I'm just not sure it's really dance-able. We'll see.

Father/Daughter: Somewhere Over The Rainbow / What A Wonderful World - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (Meet Joe Black)
The father daughter song is super long, so I'm thinking of using the last two minutes for my brothers. Each one of them would step in and dance with me for one minute. This would still leave at least three minutes for my dad.

Mother/Son: Sunrise, Sunset - Original Cast (Fiddler on the Roof)
We are trying to figure out the Stepmom/Son song too. Maybe the stepmom will get the first part of the Mother/Son dance or maybe we will do a whole additional song.

Cake-cutting: How Sweet It Is – James Taylor

I thought I would add a bit of silly fun to this tread. When I was looking into using Better Together by Jack Johnson as our first dance, I stumbled upon this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nie9lKPifg . It's fantastic!

Did any of you have stepmoms or stepdads for dances too? What did you do to accommodate them?

Have a good weekend everyone.

I know I'm jumping in a bit late, but I just wanted to chime in and say that you look stunning in your gown! I think the silhouette is perfect on you. I hope that the Spanx worked out for you-- I swear by them!

I love the second hairstyle picture you posted.

If you are still looking for a purse/bag, Target has some cute sparkly evening bags right now that are very similar to your colors (not white, but would still tie in.) They are around $15 or $20, I think, and you could use it again on a night out. They are small and could probably only comfortably hold a cell, a lipstick, and some cash, but what more do you need?

For earrings, I would suggest checking out the brands Monet and 1928. I've seen these at Macys and Nordstrom. These brands have gorgeous designs and are quite affordable. I *think* that some of the styles come in sterling silver, but I could be wrong. The Charter Club brand at Macys also has some really lovely bridal-type jewlery but I'm not sure about the metal content. Any decent salesperson will be able to point you in the right direction, though.

Hope that helps! Good luck with the rest of your planning!

Oooo, I am hoping to stop by Target this weekend. I will have to stop and take a look at the handbags. Thanks so much for the earring advice. I will have to hit the mall hard one of these weekends. In the meantime, I discovered http://emitations.com/ from a bridal magazine. Some of it's a little too much bling for my taste, but I like some of the options.

your songs sound great! when is your dress altering going to be done?

Thanks for checking in. Check out the next update.

Hey again friends!

So, it’s a small update today. We finally got all the invites addressed, stamped, and sealed. It took some time because we had trouble getting the postcard stamps for the RSVP cards. We always seemed to just miss the post office hours. And their machines didn’t sell the post card stamps. Anyway, we sent them today. Whew! No going back now. Hahaha! I can’t wait until we start getting the RSVPs back.

I got my bra from Victoria’s Secret in the mail yesterday. Finally. I tried it all on together. I am happy with how the bra and the spanx fit under the dress. I like it better than before but I still have high expectations for the alterations. The bra will only work if they can bring up the dress a bit. The back of the dress has a tendency to fall below the back of the bra. My alteration appointment is on Sunday afternoon. I will be sure to let you all know how it goes. Thanks again to everyone who provided support and information in my dress dilemma stress.

Late last night we came up with a great idea for our table numbers. We’re actually going to use letters. Mike is a genius in photoshop. He’s going to create a cool looking letter with a cool looking background for each of the tables. Underneath the letter we’re going to have a word printed. Then on the back of the 3x5 or 4x6 image, we’re going to have a little snippet of information of why that word is important to us. For instance, A for Astronomy. We met in the astronomy program because we took several classes together…. etc. B is for Boulder. We both moved to Boulder, Colorado during the same week in August 2002 after transferring from different schools, it brought us together…. etc. Obviously the write-ups will be better than that, but you get the idea. I think these will provide a little conversation starter as well as help our guests connect with us on a more personal level that day. Since we do not need all 26 letters of the alphabet, we will skip ones that we can’t come up with anything for. Now I just need to find some sort of photo holder or clip to put them on. I could just paint some of those huge clothespins. Have you seen those? I think those could work. But I might be able to come up with something else. Hopefully I can find something cost effective. Maybe I should try and hunt down the local dollar store and have a look around.

Wow, all of this little stuff is adding up.

Yes, 3+ weeks for them to even ship the order is ridiculous. I hope they work it out soon. Thanks for the compliment about the letter idea. The best strokes of genius always seem to happen late at night. And I think we are going to use the giant clothespins. Wahoo!

So, I’ve been a little busy lately. But I thought you all would want an update on my dress fitting. Sorry, no photos, I forgot my camera.

First, let me tell you about the silk flower fiasco. If you remember from my previous posts – me and my BMs were each going to wear silk flowers. I was going to wear a white one and they were each going to wear one in the color that matches their wrap. Well, the silk flowers didn’t come in one of the colors. So the decision was to spray the dye on to the flower. This worked really well when they tested it on a petal. Anyway, we had left our silk flowers with my consultant so she could dye them. She called me and said they turned out horribly. She said they looked like wilted flowers and they weren’t going to work at all. Then she told me that they recently got some different flowers in. They were a bit smaller and had swarovski crystal beads in the center. These new ones did come in all the colors. She said that she could return my white flower and order 4 of the new flowers so we all matched. I told her that we would make the decision when we came in on Sunday for my alterations appointment.

I went in on Sunday afternoon 30 minutes earlier than my appointment. Mike came with me to sort out the flowers and then he was going to head next door to Best Buy while I met with the seamstress. Smart move – David’s Bridal being next door to a Best Buy – genius. Anyway, we asked for our consultant and she brought me an example of the new flower. However, when I asked to see the other flowers, she said she threw them away. She said they were just unusable. I would have liked to be the judge of that. I though maybe we could cannibalize them for their petals or something. And since she was making me pay for 3 of the 4 new flowers (I was returning my white one for a new white one), I felt like she threw away something I owned. I didn’t say anything, but I was slightly annoyed. I said that we wanted to go ahead and order the new ones and she left me with the desk clerk. She had another bride trying on dresses at the time and she had to get back to her. Well, the desk clerk placed the order and she returned all four of the old flowers even though my consultant threw them away. My consultant was planning on charging me for 3 of the new flowers. So, I am totally grateful that the desk clerk placed the order. I was going to say something and hope of getting a discount because I didn’t even get to see the other flowers, but I am glad I didn’t open my mouth.

The new flowers are nice. And I actually like that they are a little smaller. I look forward to seeing them when they come in.

I went back and met my seamstress. I spent a couple minutes getting into everything. She immediately pinned the body tighter. Once she did that, my bra did not peak out of the back. She recommended that I get someone to pin my dress to my bra the day of the wedding though. Just in case.

She also added cups. Hahaha! Yes, I will be wearing a padded bra and cups. Wow! Could I be any smaller? I didn’t think my size B chest was anything to be concerned about, but now I wonder. She mostly added cups because my bra didn’t quite fill out the shape of the dress. Once she added them, it really looked the way it was supposed to. I asked her about maybe not wearing the bra since she was adding cups. She said that I should wear the bra too. She said a lot brides do. And she said that since my dress has the deep V-neck, wearing a bra will help me not worry about having something uncovered by accident.

After adding the cups, there wasn’t really a lot of extra fabric in the halter top. So, there was no way for her to pull it up anymore. And she said that she would not have pulled it anyway because then the ribbon around my upper torso would have been too high and in the wrong place. I had to agree.

But this meant that I would now be getting a hem. I was trying to avoid the hem. That’s why I bought the super tall shoes. I had thought about switching to shorter heels if I needed a hem. Why wear the super tall shoes if you have to pay for the hem anyway? Well, I stuck with my tall shoes. I think it will help me be more confident on my day. Being taller helps to slenderize right? I may have to practice walking around in them because I am more of a flip flop and tennis shoe type of girl, but it will be worth it to know that I pulled out all the stops to look my best.

Last but not least was the bustle. Well, she tried a ballroom bustle, but it just wasn’t working. So, she tried the over bustle and I hated it. So, I was stuck with the under bustle. Oh well, at least the look had grown on me. But when she first pinned it, she pinned it way too high. It emphasized my bum too much. It started right below my bum and it just made me look much bigger from the behind. Plus, it caused the front to come in to much around the wrong place on my thighs. Nope, it wouldn’t do. I asked her to pin it lower. She was reluctant, but I am glad that I asked. It looked much better after the second pinning.

All in all it cost $250. Ouch. But I have to say that I am feeling better about my dress now. That’s the important part. I’m still going to be working out hard up until the wedding, but at least I know the dress works. And it’s different than your typical wedding dress. I think it’s all working out nicely. I go for my second fitting later this month.

Our apartment complex has a fully-furnished rental apartment available for friends and family that come to town. I told my parents about this and pointed out the convenience of having them so close the week leading up to my wedding. My dad said he reserved it back in early April. So, I didn’t think anything more of it. Well, I was in the office paying this month’s rent and I thought I would double check. My dad’s name wasn’t anywhere on the month of December. And, the only week that they have it reserved is the week we need. Of course they are not going to kick the other person out. Aaaahhhh! I called my dad last night and let him know about this. He went back through his records and found out that the check he sent as a deposit was never cashed. He just didn’t notice. He said that when he called to reserve it, they told him they wrote him on the schedule and he needed to send them the deposit. Well, they never wrote him on the schedule. There was no one crossed out or erased on the calendar I saw. And apparently they never got the check or it was misplaced of something. Either way, my dad still should have been on that schedule. The folks at our front office have messed up before, so I guess we should have expected this. But this makes me so mad. My dad is normally pretty good about checking up on stuff like this. But it was right around tax time and he never verified that the check was cashed. I still feel like the people at the front office wronged us. They took all of his information and my information (you have to know a resident to rent the apartment) and never did anything with it. This makes me think that they got the check and didn’t know what it was for and just put it somewhere to deal with it later and now it’s lost. I’m so frustrated. I really liked the idea of them being so close. I also liked that they would have a full apartment with a kitchen, TVs, and couches and stuff. This way I wouldn’t feel bad about them spending their free time at a hotel. Plus, I have two brothers and a sister coming in later that week and it would be a great space for all of them (especially with the 2 bathrooms). The price was better than what you would pay at a hotel for less space. Mike’s parents have a timeshare condo here, so that works well for them. There are sister apartment properties in the area which also have these apartments available to us, but it’s not nearly as convenient. Plus, now it’s October and they kind of have to scramble to find the best option when they thought they had it all settled in April. I just feel like it’s completely unacceptable. My dad is going to call them and try to find out what happened. I told him that maybe he should try to get a major discount on staying at an apartment at a sister property if he still wants to stay in an apartment. But I doubt they will do it because they are not really a hotel chain. Oh well, there are always other places. I’m just so frustrated that this didn’t work out. Enough about that.

We have our engagement photo session tomorrow. I am still back and forth about what I want to wear. I know I have to keep it simple. So, I am thinking a black tank top (I have 3 I can choose from), favorite jeans, and black flip flops. Mike will be wearing jeans, flip flops, and a white or black collared shirt. I am encouraging him to wear white because I think it works better with his hair and skin tone. Of course I had a little skin break out start on my face this morning. Grrrrr! Why does that always happen? I’m sure I can cover it up, but still. I have to be grateful that my cold sore hasn’t decided to pop up too (knock on wood). I have seen our photographer’s beautiful work with so many other couples, no it’s time to see what she can do with us. I am trying to be realistic, but I can’t help but get my hopes up. Our engagement photos will be made into our guest book. It’s a hardcover bound book with bold background colors and our photos printed throughout. We will buy silver sharpies for our guests to write with. We are also going to choose our best engagement photo and frame it for each set of parents for Christmas gifts. Wish us luck.

wow! lots going on! i'm sorry about the aparrtment situation, that's annoying...but it'll work itself out! i'm glad that you got your dress situation fixed, who would have ever thought that two bras was the answer!

No more worries about the apartment thing. I had a lightbulb go on that my parents should have a little extra space for themselves, my two brothers, and my sister. We decided that they should have some room for one of my brother's and my best friends from high school as well. He's a good friend of our family's and he practically lived at our house throughout high school. We haven't seen him much since we have all moved away. If my parents can accommodate him, he is more likely to come because all he has to do is buy a plane ticket. My parents were thrilled about the idea. Now they just need to find a place with a little more space. So, I guess it worked out for the best.

So, our engagement photo session was postponed. On Thursday, our photographer had just returned from traveling and her back wasn’t feeling too good. She offered to keep our appointment, but she was concerned that she wouldn’t be able to move well enough to get all the shots she would want. So, we rescheduled. Turned out to be a good thing because it downright poured for 20 minutes that afternoon at the location we chose. Whew! Don’t get me wrong, I would have loved some rain shots (we don’t get much rain here in AZ), but it would have happened at the beginning of our session. So, I am grateful she needed to reschedule.

We met her yesterday. I wore a black polo shirt with a pink tank top underneath that sometimes poked out. Oh, and jeans and reef flip flops. DF wore a black button down short sleeved shirt with a white undershirt and jeans and flip flops. It started off a little awkward. I guess I’m not really used to being a cuddly around other people. We hold hands and such in public, but nothing more than that. So kissing in front of the camera and having little moments with her watching was a little difficult at first. But we warmed up well. We did our session outside at a farm-like establishment. There were plenty of trees and green grass. Then we moved to a nearby golf resort for some photos with a fountain. I will be sure to post some of the photos once she puts them up on her blog. I am a little nervous about it. I just really want them to be amazing and I want them to reaffirm why we are paying so much for this photographer and her artistry. Either way, she has a great personality and we all got along well.

We got our first RSVP. Ooooo, totally exciting. I can’t wait until we start seeing them everyday. The mail at our apartment complex it a little out of the way. We normally only check it once or twice a week. But I think we will start checking it more often now. The first interaction I had regarding the invitations was from a former college classmate. She IMed me the day after she received hers. And she kept asking why we aren’t getting married in Colorado. That’s where she lives now and it would be more convenient for her to come if we were getting married there. I tried to explain to her that most of our college friends that we met in Colorado had moved elsewhere after graduation. So the majority of our guests aren’t traveling from there anyway. And it’s not like it’s our hometown. Etc. But she kept saying that she wished the wedding was in Colorado. Aaaahhh! Is it just me or is this completely insensitive? Honestly, she’s not a really close friend, just someone I got to know pretty well because we were on a year-long senior project team. Actually, I became good friends with our other teammates and I really wanted to invite them. But I knew that she would find out if I invited the other people and not her. So, I invited her too. After this conversation with her I was left wondering if the other Colorado folks would feel this way. I was just so frustrated. I felt like I had to justify why we chose Arizona instead. But really, why should I have to justify anything? We’re getting married and we live here now, so we’re getting married here. Why was our wedding suddenly about her? I can’t imagine what she would have said if we had decided on a WDW wedding. Hahaha! But the only way we would have been able to afford a DFTW was if we drastically cut the guest list down, so she probably would not have been invited at that point anyway. Oh well, you can’t please everyone.

On another thread there was talk about the MM groom ears being too small.

And mhcueball2 posted this:

I am all over this. I was already concerned about the groom ears being too small. We bought the groom hat from david’s bridal for this reason.

DF wanted to wear his groom baseball cap to our open house. But I doubt he will want to wear the ears at that time. But these directions make it so the ears are detachable. I am going to purchase some super cheap adult MM ears that are black off of ebay to attach to the groom baseball cap the way they describe.
We also bought the pink bride hat for me to wear at the open house.

I am concerned about getting headaches with the MM bridal headband. I seem to get headaches whenever any sort of pressure is applied by my ears. It’s such a pain for me to find sunglasses I like because of this. I do not want to spend my disneymoon with headaches and advil. So, I think I am going to convert the pink bride hat to MM ears the same way. I don’t want the ears to be black, so I am looking into some other options (glitter spray paint or silver ears to match the rhinestone bride lettering). And I will have to go to michaels to purchase a super cheap and short veil to attach it somehow. I think this is a great project and it will make a fun keepsake. It’s practical and we are more likely to wear our ears this way. I am super excited to get DF involved.

DF is second-guessing the neru tuxedo he chose. He is concerned that it looks a little too much like a military jacket. I am not sure what to think. He didn’t plan on buttoning his jacket up. I think this helps with his concern. But I want him to feel comfortable with his choice. I think we will be making another trip to after hours within the next week or so. It’s just hard because the sample they have in their showroom is too small (do those samples fit anyone older than a high school freshman?). So having him put that on really doesn’t show us anything. I was so excited for him to get such a unique jacket. But I also understand his concern. I guess we will just have to see.

I just realized that I never showed any of you our wedding website. Check it out: http://web.mac.com/mcurl
It’s been a great resource to keep everyone posted about our wedding weekend extravaganza. We made it to include with the save-the-date notices. We have kept updating it along the way. We also included it in small text at the bottom of our invitation. It’s a good way to let people know about everything: accommodations, our Disney registry, roomies if they want them, etc. I understand that lots of brides send out newsletters. Well, this is our virtual newsletter and we have no qualms about constantly updating it.

More later…
