Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

I believe I am up to date on the thread and I have updated the Be Our Guest list. Please take a moment to see if I have listed your information correctly.

Post 15: Be Our Guest List

:thumbsup2
We need to be updated as YC, and you've got our end date as June 10. What Disney doesn't understand is that we're moving in, and they will have to drag me out to the ME kicking and screaming. No one wants a scene like that. They're better off just letting us stay.

:cool1:

I recently booked a split stay Poly/YC but that was based on the rooms looking the way they did in the pics (very nautical and fun). If the test room is what the real rooms look like we will want to rebook something else. The renovated rooms do not appeal to me and I know my daughters (11, and 16) will not care for them as well. Does anyone have recent experience with rooms that have been renovated? We are supposed to be there in mid August and I imagine we would end up with a renovated room by then. I would rather go full Poly if that is the case. The new room look is too generic for us.

I am not putting you down but I am just curious. Would you really cancel a hotel stay at a hotel because the brand new décor is different then you like? I can understand cancelling if the rooms were run down/dirty but to cancel because of the décor, I just find kind of strange. Do you think it will really effect how much you and your daughters enjoy the resort? You will still have the same great amentities, just not the colors/comforter/pictures in the room that you would find more to your taste. I just wonder if the "room look" really effects that many people?

It definitely matters to me. When I was searching for rooms I ruled out the ones with themes I didn't care for. The nautical theme is a big draw for me, personally.

Absolutely! We've been to Disney's theme parks many times so the resort portion is really important. A minor change in decor probably wouldn't matter but if you have seen the difference between what the Disney website shows and what the poster on page 742 posted with the sample room, it is really dramatic. Previously, the rooms were light, nautical and whimsical, mostly white and blue. Now they are mostly white and brown, with a lot of brown. For some, that would be an improvement. For us it is not. We had already been torn between YC and BC but went with YC based on the theming of the room even thought the BC is closer to Epcot (which we like). The other main draw (Stormalong Bay) is available at either resort. We had also considered just staying at the Poly throughout because we originally weren't going to do a split stay but were having such a hard time deciding between Poly and YC. I've sent an email to my TA and if we can get BC in place of YC we will go that route.

My sister (also going) thinks perhaps the new room decor is to appeal more to the conference attendees. That makes sense to me. We stayed at YC for a week once for a conference several years ago and I can see a lot of my peers enjoying the new rooms.

Also, it's not like I'm cancelling my trip... just changing the resort. Yes, it would very much effect how much my daughter, my sister and I enjoy the resort. It was really based on the room decor that it was chosen over BC.

Understood. Yes, perhaps the hotel being used by a lot of business people does have an effect on the new décor. Good observation. Good luck with your trip.

I just wanted to say I find the whole " removal of the bath tubs" concerning. We have noticed a few Disney resorts have been refurbished and the bath tubs removed in the process not just in WDW either. I should have realised this would happen after the introduction over at the CR of the shallow square sinks.... I prefer a good deep sink or hand basin myself. That put me off staying there.
We all have our own quirks, nice deep sinks and a good bath tub are two of mine. There's nothing in the world that can destress and sooth my aching body like a good hot bath. Once by back pain starts a bath is the best way to help resolve it. I too am not a fan of the " sepia tone" room decor. I want a splash of colour and some good Disney theming in the room. Those curtains I can say looked nice (a little like a projected constellation in a kids room) but after a couple of days I wouldn't be a fan of them. Perhaps they should have made one section for conventioneers only in YC. That way they could have thought more about visitors and guests with kids and true Disney fans. I hope they rethink the decor for next time. We loved the old decor but not fans of the current look.

Has anyone stayed in a hearing accessible room at the Yacht Club? Any details about the room? Where was it? Room number?

Anyone know where a "hearing accessible" room might be located in the yacht club?

I have never seen a map that lists where the accessible rooms are at the Yacht Club. We have one for the Beach Club, though.

I'm going to post your question to see if anyone has details about hearing accessible rooms over on the Yacht & Beach Club FAQ on the main Resorts board since that thread gets more traffic.

:welcome: to the thread and thanks for your input!

Do you have an upcoming stay at the Yacht or Beach Club?

I am interested in hearing more about the bathtubs/showers. I haven't heard anything official, but there is some speculation that king bed rooms may be the rooms without tubs, but I wonder if some of the rooms with 2 queen beds will have showers only. I also wonder about the process for requesting a room with or without a tub. As you mention, and a lot of people with young kids have said, a tub is a very important feature.

Of course it does. Especially at a resort like WDW where there are many different "themed" resorts. Folks routinely advise to choose the theme that you like best.
And I don't think the new YC décor is just for business people/conventioneers. I think it's appeal is more widespread to todays traveler.

Last morning at our favorite place! I'm not as sad as I normally am because we will be back in 92 days!! We have enjoyed our stay here so much!! Everyone has been super friendly and helpful. As for the seafood smell in the hallway, I haven't noticed it the past few days myself. I may have grown used to the smell but it never bothered me either. My mom, who didn't care for the smell said she didn't notice it either. I also don't think I mentioned that we called housekeeping for a box fan and they brought one right up on our arrival day. It really helps me sleep at night and was much appreciated.
There is a little sitting area right outside our room, we actually used it this morning to have our coffee while Little Miss slept, too chilly for me on the balcony. Here are some pics of room and view. Dee help yourself to them if you want! Can't wait to return.

In my opinion, they have done a masterful job of creating two distinct resorts at YBC. When BC was refurbished, they came away with an elegant light and airy classic Nantucket style. YC new design has a richer more classic yacht club appeal. Darker woods, brass and navy. You see both of these intentions when you walk through the doors into the lobby of either side. The "disney" is more subtle in the rooms. I personally love the flooring for sanitary reasons, and also it's without question more "Yacht". And I love the walk in shower although, I can understand the desire to have a tub for a child or adults who enjoy baths. Disney doesn't do anything without it being intentional. While connected, I think they are creating a more family appealing resort on BC side, especially considering the villas on BC side, and the yacht club more adult, and grown kids appealing. I've read recently quite a lot about Disney becoming more and more an adult vacation sans children, and YC has always seemed to lean this way to me. Now even more so. I don't think it's a bad thing. Disney as a business will always go where the money is. don't get me wrong, I'm down for either side. They both appeal to me. And throw in location, it's a done deal!

I agree with you completely. I have a week booked at YC, but I really don't like the look of the new rooms and I know the kids won't like it. I considered BC, but a full balcony is very important to us so I am considering changing all or most of our stay to GF or Poly. I'm still waiting for more pics in hopes that they will change my mind.

I am so excited! We just got the confirmation email from David's for our room at Beach Club Villas for January 29-February 9, 2018. I know it's incredibly far out, but we are so excited! We are going for our 10 year anniversary and thought have been wanting to stay at Beach Club for so long that we decided this would be the trip to do it! Cannot wait!

Incredibly far out? No. It's less than a year. And you're talking to people who start planning their next trip DURING their current trip. We get it.

SOOOO EXCITED! We have a split stay coming up 4/24-4/26 at the beach club standard view and then 4/26-5/01 at the yacht club garden view. How is that for an easy split stay? Aside from the contemporary/BLT, old key west, and Saratoga springs these are the only deluxe resorts we have never stayed at. The only rooms left happened to be accessible hearing rooms, but when I spoke with reservations I was assured that booking that room category is okay. My question is should I have them make a note that I don't absolutely need to be in a hearing accessible room? And what sort of room requests might you put in when traveling with a 3 year old? I noticed a divider in some room photos at the yacht club- is that something that is in every king room? I would love to have visual separation at night so our son will sleep more soundly.

I agree with the poster above that the Yacht and Beach themes are still there, but more subtle. I like the new decor, but my kids are getting older. I'm sure when we go end of May we will probably have a non-refurb room. I think the move towards no bathtubs is reflective of design trends in general. You watch design shows and you see them more often getting rid of bathtubs for bigger showcase showers.
