Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Last I heard they were blocking off entire beach at y&b. I'd rather they make some type of barrier to water rather than restrict all access to beach area.
So, not ropes like at GF/Poly? You mean an actual fence preventing you from even going on the beach at all?

I would think it would be similar to what's going up at the Poly and GF. From what I've seen, they look quite nice and would go well with the theme of the YC/BC.

I agree. When I first saw a photo, I was thinking some type of metal fencing between the poles was being constructed at GF and Poly. Now seeing the rope type fencing, think it would be perfect for Y&BC. Wish there was not fencing, but if fencing is needed, the rope type fencing is appropriate. Interested to see what happens at Yacht and Beach.

So would I but so far no confirmation of anything like that yet. Just that whole beach is being roped off.

Here's the info from the FAQ Post 13 about using the International Gateway at park opening.

How do I get to EPCOT?

Guests of the EPCOT resorts enter EPCOT through the International Gateway. This entrance takes you to the World Showcase, on a path that is in between France and UK.

How do I enter EPCOT at rope drop/park opening?

Guests who enter EPCOT through the International Gateway prior to the park opening time should proceed on the walkway outside of UK and Canada. Cast members are stationed along the way (bridge to France being #1) to guide you through UK and Canada. After you pass the last little cart coming out of Canada you are directed onto the small pathway that leads toward the Fountain of Nations.

Usually, you will arrive at Soarin' either at the same time or just a moment or so after those who enter through the main gates.

Note: Starting in 2013, the French bakery is now open at 9 am when EPCOT opens, so you also have the opportunity to stop there in the morning for a treat. Not sure at this point if the bakery is open at 8 am when EPCOT has early extra magic hours, so if someone could confirm this info, I would appreciate it!

If you have a pre-opening breakfast scheduled at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, you will provide your name and/or reservation to a CM at the International Gateway. You proceed through UK and Canada as described above, then continue past Mexico to Norway.

However, guests of the BC/YC/BCV who need to be at the front of the park BEFORE park opening (for example, marathon runners or for special tours) will probably need to take a taxi from the resort to the front entrance of EPCOT.

:cheer2:
Is the IG entrance normally pretty busy? Trying to figure out how early we should plan to arrive to get through bag check, etc.

Also, do we think this will give people an advantage getting to FEA at RD? Are you "released" at the same time those at the front of the park are??

Thanks!

I think the rope fencing at the shore line is actually a fine solution and looks good enough. I like that you can still have a nice line of sight to the water. I thought the earlier poster meant it was going outside the beach at the line where the sand starts at BC/YC

The IG entrance can get busy and congested, it all depends what time of day you're going and whether or not the Friendship boat has just arrived. RD is a wild card from our experiences, sometimes it opens early and they hold you at the top of the France/UK bridge and other times they open right at 9:00 AM or 8:00 AM[EMH]. If you want to get a jump on things I would be there 20 - 30 minutes early so you're ahead of the pack for whenever it opens!

Does anyone know with a standard view booked is it okay to add a request for near the lobby and elevators? Thank you.

Yes, we just checked in today and I requested both of those. I'd say both were pretty much granted. We face the front of the resort with the driveway/drop off area just to the right of our balcony. I love the room because I can see part of Spaceship Earth and I've enjoyed watching people come and go today. We do have to walk down one "longer" hallway to get to the elevator but it takes us maybe 45 secs at the most. No biggie! An added bonus - we have a sleeper sofa and there is a lovely sitting area right outside our door. DH enjoyed sitting there while the rest of us were showering and getting ready.

Have a great trip!

Fence is being constructed right now on gf beach there's a pic in another thread. Anyone at y & b now that can confirm if same is being built on beach club beach?

I'm wondering this myself. Does anyone have any news on whether this will be going up at YC/BC?

Walked through tonight and the whole beach is blocked off. It is roped off at the sidewalk with 'Beach Closed' signs behind each rope.

I feel like this will change once Disney gets their feet up under them and get some type barrier up at the water. Did not see any movie screen so guessing Solarium.

And we had our first dinner at Captains Grille. We are staying at AKL and needed a quick ADR after our plans changed due to weather. All they had was an 8:10 available so I grabbed it. Showed up before 7 and told them I was early. The hostess took my name and phone # and said she would contact me if they could work me in. Saw 2 different parties, 2 and 4, try to do walk ups and get turned away. Well they text within 5 minutes and 'worked us in' at 7:10. Moral of the story. If you want to eat at last minute go ahead and make the ADR from your room and then walk up. Better chance of getting in.

We plan on spending some resort days by the pool when we stay at BC in August. Where is a good place to get lunch for my family. Is there any other place close by then the marketplace? Is the boardwalk pizza window walkable from the BC pool area?

If you still in at BC and swimming in SAB, you don't need to leave the pool area to get lunch...Hurricane Hanna's is adjacent to SAB and has pretty good burger, sandwich options (as well as a full array of adult beverages). Kid's meals are served in a beach bucket, which can in turn be used to build castles in the sandy area of SAB. When I was at YC/BC with my kids a few years ago, we never bothered leaving the pool area for lunch, because HH's was right there (and their kid's grilled chicken sandwich was really really good).

Beaches and Cream is close as well, serving burgers/sandwiches and wicked ice cream.

The Boardwalk pizza window is walkable from BC, but it's not a short walk. Marketplace (and Hurricane Hanna's and Beaches and Cream) are much much closer. Plus, the pizza on the Boardwalk is...rather poor (IMO and in my kids' opinions)....you'll have better options for lunch that are closer to SAB than Boardwalk pizza.

Do many guests at YC/BC decorate their room windows for Halloween whilst there? I'm thinking along the lines of plush figures and window decorations, just curious really.
We have seen rooms in the value and moderate resorts decorated for Christmas this way and it looked wonderful.
I love the colours of Autumn anyway and got some really good comments at home last year from decorating our sitting room window with Disney characters dressed for Halloween.
The resort rooms have sliding doors so there isn't a window ledge to display your items like there is at a moderate or value resort. I have seen some people decorate their balconies with lights and a few other decorations. But for the most part, people don't decorate their rooms at the deluxe resorts.

You have found this out, too. We have booked last minute breakfast reservations at Captains Grille. We noticed that they turned away people without reservations on a very busy Sunday morning. So I was very glad I had taken the time to make an ADR first.

Well that didn't work... I was commenting about the lunch options without the sand pail. Several times last week I ordered Chicken Nuggets with no sides, and a turkey sandwich with no sides and it was less money than the full lunch. I wasn't trying to be cheap as we made up for it with adult bevs from the bar, but by the pool I only wanted a small snack since we had food available at the lounge during the day.

I think you can get the kids meal with no sides...then it might be cheaper. I thought my task was to find out about a full kids meal with sides, just no sand pail. I was told a full kids meal is the same price with or without the sand pail.
