Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Hugs are good! I can use lots!! Going back to work on the 20th. I only work Sundays and Mondays. As of now, I will be there every Sunday and Monday until October 11th and 12th. I'm off those days.
Teena we will be there starting on the 18th, if there is anything you need or want from the Philly area let me know and I would be happy to bring it down. I know we have never met but I have been thinking about you and your family often. My mom passed away a few weeks ago and I feel like I lost my best friend. She was so happy that we were able to make this trip and wanted to hear all about it. I am trying to get excited for my daughter but it has been hard!

I'm good. One of our friends here brought me loads of different chocolate kinds of Tastycakes and I have them in the freezer.

I lost my Mom and Dad both after retiring here in Florida and it was very difficult. It's been over six years now and I still go to pick up the phone to call them when something happens that I know they would love to hear about. Now I think of them often and wonder how Dad went on without Mom for two years ... they were together over 60 years. I can't picture or want a life without Bob and we had about 39 years together. I know time will help heal but it's going to take a lot of time. Once Jeanne goes back home on Monday, I know it will be horribly difficult. I haven't lived alone since I was in my 20's. Can't imagine how I'm going to feel.

Get excited about your trip with your daughter. Enjoy the time and I truly believe your Mom will be watching and enjoying the joy your daughter gets and also your joy from seeing your daughter at Disney. I can't wait until I see Lily again in October. Jeanne and Lily are the reason I have to be strong and I have to constantly tell myself that. Your vacation couldn't have come at a better time in my opinion. It will do you both so good!!!!

My heart just hurts for you family and what you are going through. Staying busy has helped but the pain and grief comes in waves, I am sure in time those waves will lessen. I will stop by on Sunday or Monday while we are there and give you a big hug!

:grouphug: this is the best I can do for now...keeping you in our thoughts...

Hey y'all! We leave in 9 days for our first stay at YC. Last year we were at BC and loved it. Lots of Georgia peeps heading to WDW for Fall Break...anyone else there the 19th - 26th?

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

The seasonality of life can seem so crushing and punishing sometimes. It is so hard to lose people we love. We would be worse of not to have had them to love, but that doesn't make it easier. Change is never easy and this is change of the worst kind. I'm glad Jeanne has been with you and you will continue to comfort each other. Lots of HUGS for you Teena.

Funny way to start the day!

On our first trip to the World, we stayed at CBR and bussed everywhere including DTD. I saw instances when the bus driver drove the scooter on and when the rider drove it on.

The only other thing I want to add is that the bus can only accommodate one scooter. I seem to remember two scooters and their parties waiting at DTD for the return trip to the resort and only one was able to get on the first bus.

There is more than one type of bus floating around in WDW. I have seen 3 scooters tied down on a bus. Two on the left side and one on the right. This was back when Disney was trying out different bus configurations like the double bus so I'm not sure how many of the triple scooter types made the "cut" and were purchased.

I think there are people you just can't travel with

Thank you all for your responses. I won't tell mom the bus driver can't help her; I'll just do it myself. That should be fun! ;)

I am glad to hear we can still load even if people are on. Part of our excitement is due to knowing we can just walk (scoot) to Epcot/HS and don't need the bus, but we'll be going to Magic Kingdom several times and will need it then. Fingers crossed.

Teena, I will stop by as well to say hi and share a hug, I'll be there the same time as Teetah. Warning: I will be dressed up in Disney garb from head to toe on Sunday, Sept. 27th for my 40th birthday. :earboy2:

LOL!

Not True!!!! The drivers are not supposed to drive the scooters for you. They are very helpful and very patient, but they don't drive the scooters up the ramp. If you had an experience where they did, they were overstepping their role and responsibilities.
Last year was my first time with a scooter. OP, I never had trouble getting on a bus at the BC stop.
This, 100% this. The bus drivers not required to do anything but instruct you on what you need to do to park it, then they secure it. However, 99% of them are super nice, and will go the extra mile. I've been using an ECV at WDW for years, and I consider myself to be very proficient with driving one. But that being said, I can get up the ramp onto the bus just fine, but actually parallel parking it into it's spot is just NOT within my skill set. (I should note that I usually travel solo, so there's no family members to help me with it.) All but one driver that I've encountered has let me step off the ECV once I was up the ramp, then he or she will stand over it and efficiently steer it into it's parking space, no problem. If you think about it, this is probably must faster for them than waiting for the person to drive it into position themselves. (The one really rude CM that refused to help me in this way probably regretted it when I ended up in an Austin Powers situation, as referenced below. )

I've seen a driver help steer a scooter as the user had got themselves into an Austin Powers situation!
Was this on April 26th on a bus from Animal Kingdom to Epcot, per chance? Because if so... it was probably me. :rotfl:

I agree. They are very helpful and in this situation I can see where they helped to steer. But they aren't allowed to actually drive it
Exactly. Most are super helpful, and while they cannot sit on it and drive it, they absolutely can stand over it and use the handlebars to guide it into place if they want to. ::yes::

The only other thing I want to add is that the bus can only accommodate one scooter. I seem to remember two scooters and their parties waiting at DTD for the return trip to the resort and only one was able to get on the first bus.
Not necessarily true! I've actually never been on one that didn't accommodate at least two. Occasionally I've even seen some newer ones that can accommodate three. :thumbsup2

Thank you all for your responses. I won't tell mom the bus driver can't help her; I'll just do it myself. That should be fun! ;)
Let the bus driver help you, if they're willing! (They usually are!) But then if you get a stinker who isn't so nice at any point, at least you'll have had an opportunity to watch how they do it, so that you can can help her out. She's lucky to have you! :goodvibes

This is a BIG factor in why I am hoping to stay at BC for next year's trip myself! Boating to Hollywood Studios and scooting to Epcot means half as much bus-loading! :rotfl:

I think there are people you just can't travel with -- traveling in groups is hard and has to include the right mix of people. Can't choose family unfortunately! I give you credit, I think it would be hard for me to deal with it on my vacation! (We are not traveling with others LOL)

I learned this the hard way our last trip. There was one incident in particular that makes me honestly ill to think about when I consider what could have happened. I'm glad WDW is still my happy place and I have another trip to look forward to.

Teena, my heart hurts so much for you. When my dad died, my mom was very much in the same position. She hadn't lived alone in decades and it was really hard for her. You'll be in my thoughts, hoping the days get easier and knowing you'll see Lily soon!

DeniseV929, my father died twenty-three years ago. There are days it feels like every one of those years has passed and then some days it's like it was yesterday. It is so, so hard. And sometimes it still is. I remember smelling his aftershave once (this was years ago) and I just cried because I missed him so much. But then I smelled it again in a bath bomb at Basin in DTD of all places and it made me smile to think of him.

One more thought about scooters and bus drivers...

My experience with the driver actually driving the scooter was from many years ago. On a more recent trip, I had a casual conversation with a Transportation Manager who was at my resort's bus stop (who knows why...) and since we were the only guests there, we just started chatting. My daughter was pregnant and we were using one of the resort's push wheelchairs to allow her to visit more and longer in the parks.

Anyway, we were talking about wheelchairs and scooters, and he told me about all the back injuries that have occurred due to working with scooters - mostly from trying to lift and nudge them into place once they are already on the bus. He said they often have a large number of employees out on sick leave because of them.

He also said that there are very strict rules concerning employee safety (not sure if they are State or Federal, or both) that they absolutely comply with, but some drivers feel they need/want to "help" more than they are required to, and often that's when the injuries occur. It was an interesting conversation and I came away with a lot more respect for what the bus drivers do.

So, the times I saw drivers actually driving the scooters up or down the ramp, which was a long time ago, was probably before some of the more recent laws and rules came to be.

On a related note...did I read somewhere recently that resorts no longer had push wheel chairs for guests to use? Those have come in handy on a couple of trips for my family.
