Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

yes! the washer/dryer factor! Not that I'm a fan of doing laundry on vacation- BUT less face it - when your DH thinks a 6 day vacation only requires 2 pairs of socks and 3 pairs of underwear (yes that is what he packs) then you are going to be doing laundry no matter what anyway. This is going to be our first time in a regular room as we usually book a one bedroom DVC room and can't stress enough how great it was having a washer and dryer right in the room! So easy to throw in a load of laundry when DS is taking a nap.. But thank you for mentioning this - you just reminded me to go look on a map to find out where the laundry room is...:laundy:
I ALWAYS do laundry on the next to last day. We tell people we live at Disney and commute to Houston for work and school, and commuting back is just a smidge easier knowing that big suitcase sitting beneath me on the plane is NOT full of dirty clothes. :tink:

I emailed DSS with my concerns about the construction that should be going on during our trip (YC club level) around the end of July. Just got the following for a response. Really don't know what I am going to do now.

Thank you so much for your email. During your visit, there will be some
refurbishments happening at Disney's Yacht Club Resort in parts of the
lobby area which will happen between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm.
Primarily the area of Captains Grille, Ale & Compass, and Fittings &
Fairings will be reimagined while you're staying with us. Stormalong
Bay, however, will be open for your enjoyment

I have a question about the pool- would they make a 7-year-old with both parents with her scan her MagicBand to get into Stormalong Bay? We are going to be switching hotels halfway through our trip, and one day after that she will be going home with grandparents, so I don't really want to add her on the reservation for only one night- but I know she'd love the pool.

Just booked the YC CL for Sept 16-22 at a steal!! The rates in September are killer, enough so I moved our trip from November to September. We can sweat to save some $$$$$.

:welcome: back!

I'll add you to the list.

:cool1:

Has anyone stayed recently at the Yacht Club and knows how the parking is? I've heard chatter from other sites parking is limited with the expansion to the convention center and the resort rehabs. I'm going Sept 19th and was curious what to expect.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1, Post 15.

:woohoo:

I don't know the answer to your question, but I am also curious.

Hey, People of the Internet! Could someone at the YC soon please snap a photo or two of the parking lot situation and/or convention center construction.

Many thanks!!!

:thumbsup2

Our first time staying at the YC and I'm wondering about room locations/suggestions.

We have a garden/woods view booked, and there are 5 of us, so a room with a day bed will be needed. Is that going to severely limit us to where we'll be? I don't want to request something that isn't even a possibility.

Ideally, I'd love a refurbished room, nearest the Beach Club end of the resort (I have to use the gym for rehab and would like to be somewhat close to that, as opposed to being clear over by the quiet pool). But from what I've read, only the 4th floor (given that we're not staying club level) will be done with refurb in early June. So, if I request to be near the gym, will I put myself out of the possibility of a refurbed room?

For those who frequent the YC, are the older rooms terribly "tired" that you'd be disappointed to not get a newly refurbished room? My hope is that we could get one or the other ~ either a refurbed room OR a room close to the gym. Which would you think would be more likely?

Thank you for any info.

We are not sure which rooms have daybeds but I'm guessing they are scattered throughout the resort.

As far as a request, in addition to what Wood Nymph said, maybe "Upper floor, near elevator" or "Refurbished room, near elevator"

@Wood Nymph which YC elevators would provide best access to the gym- the lobby ones, right?

:goodvibes

Hello, Beach Club buddies! Well, we did it...we switched our fall trip from a moderate to my most favorite resort in all of the "world!"

We'll be staying Oct 29 - Nov 4. Dee, can you add me to list?

While I've stayed here several times, my best Disney travel buddy, Nancy, has never been able to. Since we won't be able to be back for a few years, we decided to take the plunge, and hope that the next rounds of RO discounts or AP discounts will help us out a bit. Regardless...I can't wait to come back home!!!

:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1: Now I have to spend some time reading and catching up with all!

:welcome: back!!!

I am thrilled to add you to the list. That is awesome that your friend will have her first stay here.

:cool2:

Has anyone been to YC lately and have an update on the fittings and fairings rehab? The post on page one says the whole store is closing in April and grand opening in May. Has the whole store closed yet? Just curious if they are still on track. We go the beginning of June.

I haven't heard any official changes from the May date. Has anyone heard anything different? Source?

:scratchin

We will be there the week after thanksgiving staying at yc. Should we be concerned about the refurbishment? No one told us about it when we booked over the phone,

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

I don't think there will be significant impact from the work during the time of your stay. The rooms should all be done by that time and a lot, if not all, of the remodeling going on in the lobby will hopefully be done by then.

i scored free dining from Dec 13 to Dec 22 at yacht club garden view. our youngest will be 10 when we travel which makes all 5 of us "adults" now. i have a couple of questions for the wise members of the board...
  • he is a picky eater and will likely want the kids menu at times (hello chicken nuggets). i assume he will be able to order either kids or adult options?
  • if we want a quiet room and don't mind walking, would the best wording be "far from elevators" for room request or simply "quiet room".
  • our first vacation was booked by a TA so it was taken care of but does anyone know what arrangements i need to make for magical express from orlando airport (flying in from canada, not sure if that makes a difference)
okay, only 3 questions... so far!

i have had to cancel dec 15 and dec 16 trips. i don't even remember what happened first time, last year furnace died and had to be replaced.
we just replaced our roof this week, which was also pressing so i *really* hope we make it to yacht club this year.

and i love the new rooms!! i would have been happy just to be there but it appears one good thing came out of our delays, we should be guaranteed a refurbed room!!

i have learned so much from all the shared advice here, thanks to all who share. :)

:welcome: again!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list. I hope third time is the charm!!!

I think Wood Nymph answered your questions.

So, it's official. We are staying at OKW Disney have only given a limited number of bookings for Yacht and Beach with free dining to the UK market. I think there will be very few Brits at the hotels next July and August.

Awwww! I know this resort has a special place in your heart. But I know you will have an amazing trip!

:woohoo:

Staying at Yacht Club now, in a newly updated 4th floor room. Rooms nice. Construction noise is TERRIBLE. When asked when they stop was rudly told at dusk. Also got back to the room today to a note stating resort wide power outage will happen Friday morning between 2am and 4am. Because of dry conditions no more campfires at night. (Understand that). Wish i was aware how loud it was going to be before i booked a $10k Honeymoon here.

:welcome: to the thread and congratulations on your recent marriage!

I am so sorry to hear about the disruption caused by the construction noise.

As others have suggested, please go to the front desk and let them know what you are experiencing. Hopefully they can find an acceptable solution to make your trip more enjoyable.

The rule is that every guest entering StormAlong Bay must have a magic band. Don't know if they will make an exception for her or not. Also, every guest staying in the hotel should be registered for occupancy & emergency purposes. What will you do if you check in& they give you a king room because there are only 2 adults listed on the reservation? There is no charge for a child on the reservation, so you would probably be wise to just add her.

After three trips to Disneyland, we are coming for our first visit to Disney World in October! We have 4 nights at POR before switching to BC 10/9 for 5 nights. SO looking forward to SAB, our 8 & 11 yo girls love pool time. I'm also looking forward to being close to EPCOT - we have hoppers so planning on at least a couple of evenings there.

I gotta say, WDW planning is next level compared to DLR....

I would make him do his own laundry while you enjoy the pool and a cold drink. Failure to properly pack should not become your problem. I bet he would increase the items packed the next time.

This is very true! The first time we went to DL (we live on the East Coast,
so we'd been to WDW a few times first), I felt like I was somehow not planning enough-no online FP scramble, no planning out transportation between parks, no battling over every dining reservation. We really love both WDW and DL though, for different reasons!

We have booked the villa. All dates from April to November were included but numbers were limited by free dining. Once the quota was reached that was it. we don't get a room only offer so can't book any other rooms now that the free dining quota is used up.
We stayed at OKW in a villa and really enjoyed it. The villa is huge and we liked the big porch. :)

So we are midway through our stay at the beach club in a room that overlooks the quiet pool and toward the lighthouse. I wanted to give some impressions from a first timers point of view. We have previously stayed at the boardwalk, grand Floridian, wilderness lodge, animal kingdom lodge, Polynesian villas, and all star movies. I've got to say, it's hard to rate the beach club. Our room is nicely appointed, but on the small side. It has no couch or pull out bed. We do have a full balcony. Service has been stellar and our room has been promptly cleaned daily. Furniture is already showing some wear. The distance from the main elevator to our room is hilariously long and maze like. You can barely open the balcony door without hitting the bed- in fact you do. Most Hampton Inns have rooms that are larger and just as well appointed without the Disney touches. The lobby, while charming, isn't exactly "impressive". Of course I love the architecture and color scheme of the resort and it exudes the magical feeling of staying at a Disney deluxe resort. The pool is of course fantastic, but I find the layout to be cumbersome and confusing. Our 3 year old loved the sandy kiddie pool area though. It's also quite a distance from the room and requires a lot of walking through the lobby and upscale common areas in your swimming attire. The layout is rather opaque, it just plain difficult to get a handle on how to get where you want to go and I've visited the resort several times previous to staying here. Beaches and Cream was wonderful as always and our server interacted beautifully with our 3 year old son. Cape May Cafe had slow service, we waited almost 100 minutes to see all three characters- and that was an eternity with an anxious toddler. The food was good, but not great. I found myself enjoying it because I was on vacation in Disney world, but if service had been that slow and the ambiance so pedestrian elsewhere I would have not enjoyed it as much. Overall I would rate the boardwalk as a better overall resort experience- it just has more charm, better rooms, and I sort of prefer the pool there for its simplicity and great pool slide bar. Also this resort is always at capacity and it feels every bit of it- crowded, and very worn in spots. The solarium is my favorite location here, it's always empty and feels serene. I have no regrets about staying at the beach club but the polynesian and the Grand Floridian really do justify their slightly higher prices. Bus service here was about a half hour wait for a bus to the MK and a 25 minute wait for a bus on the way back. Quick service offerings from the gift shop location are fine but very underwhelming, I don't understand why yacht/beach quick service is so lame in comparison to even the value resorts. I don't know how to describe it but the beach club feels less magical and "special" than other Disney resorts we have stayed at. The location and the Epcot resort area in general elevate it highly but as for the rooms, layout, and food offerings it doesn't justify the asking price. Not a great choice for families of toddlers or people looking for top notch rooms. Value for the money is stretched to the breaking point here and I'm staying half price as a travel agent.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your comments. May I add a link to this post to the resort review section (Page 1, Post 16). Some of the most valuable reviews are the ones comparing the Yacht/Beach Club to other Disney resorts that people know.

Hi Dee! I'm starting to think I may actually belong on the room switchers thread after this past week! :-) We have changed our reservation from Yacht Club to GF to Beach Club CL- June 22-27. So we are back in the Epcot area - which my DH is happy about since that means we can walk to Tutto Gusto Wine Cellar for dinner one night - sans kids! I really wanted to try the Yacht Club this trip - but with all the construction going on and my DS needing his afternoon naps, I just don't want to have to worry about it. Beach Club here we come!! :daisy:

Got it! I'll make the adjustment to the list.

::yes::

The above posts concern me.. We have only stayed in a garden room and we had the day bed and desk beside the "balcony" door.
There was plenty of space.. Are there rooms that tiny as described above? That would make it smaller than a moderate as there has always been ample space on either side of the queen beds?? I thought all rooms had day beds and a desk area-? The description above makes it sound like you walk in and hit beds right aways.

The design of the rooms in the Yacht & Beach club is quirky. The rooms are different sizes. Sounds like the one described is one of the smaller ones.

No, all rooms do not have daybeds. I am not sure of the percentage that do. I'm pretty sure it is at least half but could be closer to 75%.

:)

We're here!! We're home!! and we got upgraded for the first time ever!! Booked a studio at BCV and got upgraded to a one bedroom overlooking the pool/canal. We couldn't be happier. They must've known were thinking about not renewing our annual passes! :rotfl2:

Congrat!!!

Hope you have an incredible trip!

I was there from 4/18-22/17 on the 5th floor, traveling with my two sisters. It was my understanding that at that point, they were working on the 3rd floor but I can't confirm that. We didn't have any power outages or anything like that, but we had a phone message on two days during our stay that we may lose water from 12-3pm. We weren't really in the room at that time, so I don't know whether we lost water or not? There were times that I could hear a little of the construction noise, but I wasn't in the room too much during the day - mostly to change or something. One of my sisters did hang back one day to do some work, and she said the construction noise was distracting at times. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and didn't feel too inconvenienced by the refurb, although we didn't need to worry about napping children or anything (just one napping adult one day!). Some days the room was serviced rather late, which at times was a bit of an inconvenience, but my guess is mousekeeping was working on early checkins, and it wasn't a big deal. We took turns on the daybed and we all thought it was quite comfortable!
We were in room 4205, 2 queen beds, no daybed. It had a tub with 2 shower heads, a rain shower head and a movable hand held shower head. There was a kuerig and beverage fridge. It was a long walk from the elevators.

The construction was below us and we received a notice I. The room that stated the hours were 9-5. As I said before, if we were there for longer than one night we would have complained.

Thank you so much for your comments and feedback about the construction info.

When is your trip?

Yes, my understanding is that everyone entering Stormalong Bay needs to have a Magic Band scanned (including children and toddlers). I don't think there is a downside to adding her to your reservation, unless you have booked a package with dining and tickets instead of room only. Or if you are requesting a king-sized bed (not a guarantee). If you have booked a package and want to avoid having to add your daughter with the same perks, add her for one night at checkin rather than beforehand.

:thumbsup2

Possibly weird question: Is there anywhere at Y&B I can buy a disposable waterproof camera. i want to take pictures while in Stormalong Bay but don't want to risk getting my phone or my digital camera wet.

Great question!!!

I assume that you can get one at The Marketplace in the Beach Club lobby, but I don't know for sure because a waterproof point & shoot has been my primary camera when I travel. I'll look at my pictures of the Marketplace shelves to see if I can see one. One of the theme park gift shops/photo shops may have them as well. Another option is to bring your phone/camera to the pool, take the pictures you want and then stash it in the free (code enabled) lockers near Beaches and Cream. But I agree, a disposable camera would be preferable.

I know that I have seen the disposable cameras at the Marketplace, at one time or another, but cannot guaranty current availability. I know for sure that the larger gift shops in the parks have them. I'm not sure, though, about being waterproof.

Dee, besides your good suggestion about stashing the camera in a locker, a Ziploc-type plastic bag should also be an easy way to keep a phone or camera from getting wet, when not in use.

Hello Dee! I am happy to say that I am coming back to Beach Club!!! I have two upcoming stays planned, June 21-28, 2017 and April 12-20, 2018 (following this stay will be our first Disney Cruise on the Dream). I have finally caught up on my BC reading and am so excited to be back on this board! Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to providing all of us with information and tips and tricks!!

May I book a massage at ShipShape if I am not a guest at either resort? It's my dream to stay here, just not in the budget. I would like to see parts again (spent an interesting afternoon in the lobby after an Asthma attack at Epcot when I was 9. Staff were wonderful). Hoping to take a day off from parks and get a massage while the kids are at the Sandcastle Club. Wanted to make sure it was do-able.

Yes, absolutely. The various spas are available to anyone who wants to book.

Ok. Now I checked my tracking and a few were shipped UPS, so I'm guessing to the convention centre. The FAQ on the first page says the handling fee includes storage for 3 days. They've been there about a week :( will they still be there?! We've literally had zero issues at any other resorts, so I shipped to BC thinking The same would be true. Ugh I'm stressing.
