Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Just a heads-up to those planning on booking travel with JetBlue...there is talk that JetBlue will begin charging a fee for the first checked bag, starting toward the end of June. Reservations made prior to the announcement will be grandfathered in for the first checked bag. The second checked bag already carries a $50 fee.

So, if you are seriously looking at booking JetBlue flights, it's probably not a good idea to delay too much longer.

I'm sorry if this question is answered on page one, but I looked and looked and couldn't find it so here goes..my niece, her husband and 18 month old twins are coming to the BC with us (they will have their own room) and we will be needing two cribs or pack-n-plays. Question 1 is will their room be large enough to hold 2 cribs and question 2 is, our TA said all rooms have one pack-n-play in the cupboard which is something I have never heard of before. Is this correct? If so, Can I just let her borrow the second one from my cupboard?

This will be their first visit to Disney so I'm hoping all things go smoothly for them. Thanks so much for any advice!!!

The villas usually have a pack and play in the closet, but not the resort rooms.

I LOVE JetBlue!!! Free snacks and no luggage fees and we get the funniest and friendliest flight attendants. The pilot even let my DS sit in the cockpit :) Congrats

I'm usually too cheap for the snacks, too. They'll be happy about that one. And I didn't have to pay the "let me sit with my kids" penalty. Bonus!

I do not see that JetBlue flies direct from BWI, but they do from DCA which is Reagan National. I was considering these flights ( I must live near you), but Southwest was more convenient for changes, two free checked bags, location, and only about $20 bucks cheaper round trip when I booked.

I was looking at the JetBlue site and it seems the MCO to BWI route is new as of November 12, so maybe it wasn't available yet for your dates? I remember searching flights out of Philly (we live near Harrisburg) and the prices weren't especially cheap and there was a layover. Our last flight from MCO with a layover was ridiculous. With delays and flight changes, what should have been done in 5 took 9+ hours. I could drive it in about 15. I vowed I would only fly non-stop after that, even if it meant driving to BWI. For some reason, I thought I'd check kayak today and the $177 fare popped up. If I'm happy with the experience, I just hope they stay. I don't seem to have much luck with the low-cost carriers sticking around. Of course, that's flying out of Harrisburg. We had Airtran for a while, which was fine. They left and we got Frontier. Also fine. The only non-stop carrier from Harrisburg is Allegiant, about which I've only heard bad things. And they only fly to Sanford.

shoreward, that's happened to me a few times, where I booked with an airline and they started charging fees. I guess Frontier now charges for carry-ons, too. Which is just absurd. I suppose it's to stop those folks who try to cram too large a bag in the overhead bin (checked bags fees are lower, I think). But it just seems silly after a while.

I've seen the scuttlebutt about the baggage fees for Jetblue for a while now, but haven't seen anything official yet. If June is correct then I'm glad I already booked for our Sept trip heading to the Grand Canyon and our Dec trip back to BC. We've had great luck with them in the last year especially the direct flights from Syracuse to Orlando. Got delayed last July due to the hurricane but the gate agent got us more than they usually give in flight credit because everyone waited so patiently. Know a lot of people from my area that are really happy with the service.

We're doing Grand Canyon and BC this year too. GC in July with a bunch of scouts hiking 22 miles rim-to-rim in 4 days. BC in Nov and I bet we do 40 miles in 5 days. I'm so looking forward to both trips and we also get to do the Black Hills in 8 days. Why can't we just vacation all the time?

Hi, just joined the forum and arriving at BC from the UK on the 5th July (leaving on the 26th July) with my wife and 22 year old daughter to do adult disney. Can you add us to the be our guest list. Planned where we are going each day, ADR's all booked, fastpasses booked, all very organised. Cannot wait. One question I have with the double sinks at the beach club. Is there a curtain between the entrance of the main room and the double sink area ? Sorry if this question has been asked before.

Fantastic for you having a nice long adult family vacation!

There is not a curtain between the room and the sink area.

I just read on a thread in the DVC forum that a lot of availability for rooms at the BCV has opened up in August. If you are looking to book a trip in that timeframe, you may want to check that out!

Thanks for the info. One other question I have is that the wife does not drink coffee and with the tea set up in the room I assume there is a mini kettle and a selection of teas ? Could not see much from the photo's.
Just wondering is it worth bringing some teas with us.

page 42- enough comments to warrant its own post!

Sure! Nothing earth shattering in it, but I guess it's nice that they send it. Oh, and our Magic Bands came today!!! party:

Thanks for posting the letter- I have added it to Page 1. Congrats on your bands. It's getting real!

:goodvibes:

This morning I stopped by the reservation desk to pay off some room charges with gift cards and the construction noise was pretty loud. They have plastic covering the area at the top of the stairs leading up from the lobby (both sides of the lobby) and areas off the hallway leading to the BCV on the 1st floor are walled off (on the left hand side right past the concierge area). Looks like they are working on 2nd and 1st floor rooms. Sanding/refinishing of wood floor area in BCV central lobby area. Looks nice but doesn't smell too great.

Thanks for this update! I hope it is ok that I have added your comments to Page 1.

Hi all! Does anyone have any idea when construction begins at YC? We check in 9/13. Would love any advice!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

:cool1:

A start date has not been announced, all we have heard is that the YC renovation will start after the BC renovation is complete, but we haven't been told how soon after. Best guess is sometime in the fall. However, even if the YC work does start in Sept, I think the initial month or so will be work on the 5th floor- club level.

Well, my sister finally finished making our reservations. We will be at BC November 10-12 for F&W, and then December 7-12 for holiday fun. We were going to do Boardwalk for December, but y'all convinced us that BC is great! Thanks to all for making this any amazing thread. Dee, please update our Nov with the dates & add us to the Dec list. Thanks!
Sarah

Got it! Will do!

:woohoo:

I've been meaning to post this for a while and keep forgetting. We were able to get Port Orleans for free dining so we will have to save our dream hotel for another trip. You can go ahead and take me off the list for September.

Wishing you a wonderful trip! Hope to see you back here sometime soon.

:)

Hello! We are staying at the Yacht Club for the first time at the end of August. This is our first time at an Epcot resort. We booked the Beach club a couple years ago but ended up at the contemporary due to available discounts.

Anyway, it's also our first time without the dining plan. I'm actually looking forward to the flexibility but wondering if we should look into a refillable mug. My husband and I drink A LOT of coffee! How convenient are the refill stations? Looks like the Ale and Compass lounge is the closest? And they have real coffee? Am I understanding that correctly?

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

:cheer2:

Yes, the coffee at the resort is all Joffrey's coffee not, not Nescrape. Others have responded about where you can refill (Ale & Compass in the morning, Hurricane Hanna's, BC Marketplace)

:coffee:

Super happy this morning! Checked out of BCV and checked into BC and found
out our Garden/Woods view room got upgraded to club level with a view of the volleyball court! So shocked at the unexpected pixie dust I got teary eyed :) the room is gorgeous - will post pics later!

That is awesome!!! Enjoy!

Hey all! my fiancee and I are planning to have our honeymoon in Disney. She's been there a few times but this will be my first time. We are going in April 2016. We are going to be booking soon but I had a question about the construction/renovations at the YC and BC. I see the information that the BC renovation should be complete before the end of this year and that means the YC renovation will be starting. The YC renovation probably wouldn't be done then by April 2016.

Our first choice in resort of the two is YC because we like the way the rooms are themed more than the BC. However we are a little concerned about any construction/renovation noise, especially since it will be our honeymoon. Yes it's Disney we aren't really going there for the peace and quite :D but it would still be nice to not have any construction/renovation noise while there.

Is this something to really be concerned about? Does the noise ever get really bad? Would it be better just to play it safe and go for the BC since their renovation will be complete before our honeymoon?

We don't really know what the progress of the YC renovations will be since it hasn't started yet. The BC work started in October with the club level lounge and is now progressing with work on Floors 2 and possibly 1 currently. I think it is safe to say there will be some refurb work at the YC in April. If you are staying club level to celebrate your honeymoon, you will probably be out of the construction zone.

Disney does their best to minimize disruption to guests during the work at resorts. We have heard mixed reviews from guests staying at the BC through this recent renovation. Most have not been disturbed by the work, but there are a few who have been bothered by nearby noise or work above or below their rooms.

My advice is to book what you want (Yacht Club) and monitor the progress of the work on this thread. If you feel the need to switch resorts (BC or elsewhere), Disney is usually pretty accommodating.

:thumbsup2

Just a question of someone who might be able to ask while visiting the YC. When they start the refurb work, is the Captain's Grille scheduled to go off-line for some repair and maintenance? If so, do they have any time frame in mind when this will be happening? Now I'm certain the CMs at the concierge and front desk won't know so you may have to push a little to have them check in with the managers. I'm just wondering, that's all.
Katesdad

I haven't heard anything. Did the Captain's Grille go through a recent (like past couple of years) rehab or am I thinking of the Cape May?

I doubt anyone at the resort, including managers, will be able to give a definitive answer. They may give an answer, but I don't know that I would trust it. Even if there are plans, they can change quickly or even be cancelled.

Best indication would be if you couldn't get a dining reservation there.

:)

60.43 days. FastPass+ scheduling tonight! Magic Kingdom closes at midnight, so I'll have no delay - unless the servers do down. Wish me luck.

How did you make out?

:goodvibes:

Going next week - if anyone wants me to get any info for you or take any pictures while I am there let me know!

:welcome: and thanks for the offer! Sounds like you have a couple of takers on your offer to take pictures and do some research.

Have a fabulous trip!!!!

:cool1:

Can you add me to the BOG list please for Beach Club. 17th September to 1st October. Our first ever stay at a Disney delixe!

Delighted to add you to the list!

I've reserved a room for my first visit to the Beach Club for the last week in October.
This will be my second visit to WDW.
Does the BC do any decorating or activities for the Halloween season?

:welcome: to this thread and posting on the DIS!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list on Page 1.

Great question about Halloween celebrations. I haven't been that time of year, so I don't have personal experience. Could someone who has been there at that time comment? Decorations? Trick or Treat? Halloween-themed pool activities?

pirate:

Had another wonderful stay at the BC June 5-11!

Thanks so much for your report!!!

:goodvibes:

Hi Everyone!

We have stayed at the BC several times over the last 3 years, once at CL, before the refurb (March or April 2013, I think?)! Most recently, we were at the BC for a couple of days each in February, and April. Both were parts of split stay weeks. It was VERY interesting to see the difference in off season and "Peak Easter Week" trips :scared1:!!! We are currently AP holders, and decided to try out the YC CL in July. We'll be there 7/15 - 7/21, to celebrate our twins' 7th birthday. pixiedust:

Anyway, I've gained a lot from this thread over the years, so just wanted to peek in and say "hi" and check out what is going on in one of our favorite resorts. We have never stayed at YC, so this is a nice change for us. :goodvibes We have stayed at the BC 4 times, BW 3 times, and S/D 3 times. We love the Epcot area

:welcome: back!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list on Page 1.

:cool1:

We just got home from our 7 night YC CL stay. We had a great trip. I thought I would mention a couple of little changes that I noticed.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Glad you had a great trip!

:goodvibes:

page 46-47 PHEW!!! Caught up. For now. But headed in to work, so that will probably change by the afternoon...

How did you get the upgrade? Just by asking? I've not had much luck that way.

:welcome: to this thread and posting on the DIS.

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1 for Aug at the BC.

:woohoo:

There is a lot of pixie dust that happens at Disney resorts. I think if there is availability in a better room, quite often guests will be upgraded for no reason. BUT, I have been told that the least likely way to receive a complimentary upgrade is to ask for one.

::yes::

Will certainly keep my eyes open for you!!!
PS: I'm a short, little "unnatural" red-head.

There are plenty of pictures of me floating around here and on my trip reports, but I suspect since we will be the only two people there at the bus stop/boat dock at 6 am it will be pretty easy to spot each other.

:rotfl2:

Let's exchange contact number closer to the trip. :)

I SAID ENGLAND!

Sorry, couldn't resist since you gave me that earworm. :)

That made me smile!!!

Spamalot was Ben's last play :lmao: and unfortunately, I think it was his last play :(

That is awesome about your Jet Blue fares! We really like Jet Blue- they have treated us well.

:thumbsup2

Just updated again, is there any pictures of the renovated deluxe rooms, I can't seem to find any.

Great question! I haven't seen any pictures. Would love to update the pictures I have!

We are doing Yellowstone this summer and then Universal (family) and Beach Club (me) at the end of August.

As HockeymomR answered, no curtain between the sinks and the main room. And sadly, no tea kettle. I am guessing that they expect people to use the Cuisinart coffee pod machine to generate hot water for tea.

:thumbsup2

Thanks for posting the letter- I have added it to Page 1. Congrats on your bands. It's getting real!

Oh no! It wasn't a very good picture! It was sideways and I had to cover up our name and reservation number, so there was 'stuff' all over it. Let me know if you need me to do a retake :) :)

We were at the WL last October, the weekend before Halloween, but we did come over to the BC for dinner at Cape May. We didn't see any Halloween decorations at the BC, or WL, or any resort. But I read on someone's trip report that the Boardwalk had a CM pumpkin carving contest, with pumpkins on display, last Halloween. And there were quite a lot of activities there for Halloween. I believe that all of the resorts have trick or treating on Halloween, too. The October activity schedule will list the activities. :)

Thanks for the info. One other question I have is that the wife does not drink coffee and with the tea set up in the room I assume there is a mini kettle and a selection of teas ? Could not see much from the photo's.

The resorts serve Twinings teas. The resort room will have Earl Grey and Green tea, two bags of each, I think. You have to run the water through the coffee maker to get hot water, so it is not ideal for tea drinkers. If you have a refillable mug then you will be able to get a much bigger selection of tea at the BC Marketplace or at the YC Ale and Compass. I took pictures of the tea selection at the Ale and Compass and I believe that the Marketplace has the same choices. I'm sorry that they are a little out of focus.

They sell more varieties of Twinings tea in Epcot. There is a Twinings tea shop in the United Kingdom section of the World Showcase.

I just read on a thread in the DVC forum that a lot of availability for rooms at the BCV has opened up in August. If you are looking to book a trip in that timeframe, you may want to check that out!

I'm just speculating, but I would guess that means that they have pushed back the start date of the BCV refurbishment.
