Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

We will be at BC Aug 21-27. We usually go early Nov, aka Jersey Week. The crowd levels are pretty low. I've read that the crowd level are considered moderate after mid August. What can we expect during our trip?

While there are a many of "crowd calendars" out there, (touringplans and easywdw are a couple of examples) it's still someone trying to peer into a crystal ball and make a prediction. They can estimate based on previous years, factoring in expected events, but no one can really know for sure.

What they predicted for the time that I was there in October was that it was a good time to visit with crowd levels lower. Turned out to be VERY crowded.

So take them all with a grain of salt, as so many unforeseen things can influence it, like special offers, free dining, conventions, new attractions, etc. You can take a look at what they predict, but the best plans can go awry, and you need to be able to be flexible and adjust if things don't work out like you expected.

Well, in the Midwest we tend to start school around mid-August. So those families will be gone. But other parts of the country/world are different...

My husband and I are looking to go in the spring - end of April or sometime in May. I have checked every week in that time frame and can not find any availability at the YC for a lagoon or pool view except concierge level. Any ideas as to what could be going on during that time frame? we have been wanting to try the YC for so long and we really like a water view.

Outside of the upcoming renovations to YC, I think Star Wars weekends will be taking up a lot of rooms at the Epcot resorts.

They have cancelled SWW, so it might be something else? (or maybe people who booked for SWW not knowing that it was cancelled). There is a long thread on the parks board regarding this. It could also be due to the fact that the YC is being referred and they have taken a certain number of rooms out of inventory? I would keep trying, though.

Hi there! I started planning our trip a few months ago and then other things came up and Disney was put on the back burner (TEMPORARILY)! Now it's crunch time and we're ready to plan for June 2016. We've stayed at the YC our past 2 visits and fell in love. We are open to BC but I'm wondering what the latest construction update is at the YC. I see that refurbishment has started last month, but could you please tell me how long this typically takes? It would be amazing to stay in a newly refinished room, but I"m wondering if we should stay on the safe side and go with BC this trip. Thanks so much everyone!!!

When I checked in yesterday they said bc done and yc is getting done but didn't give a time frame.

Thanks for the report regarding the weather. A few people in my office that have been to WDW over the summer told me that the heat was unbearable but they also complain about the heat in South Jersey in the summer which I don't really mind. Looking forward to cooling off in SAB in Aug 2016!

i think half of it is expectation. The first year we went, I thought it would be absolutely horrible. And it wasn't that bad. We had little rain that week, so it definitely seemed hotter this past August with the higher humidity. But it was still fine. Staying at YC/BC made going to HS and Epcot so easy. And the buses weren't bad at all. Well, to AK and MK. We cabbed it to DTD.

Just booked a magical deal at the BC for Aug 21-27. Can't be August soon enough. We have always gone to Disney World in early November the the weather is perfect for touring the parks. We have heard that it is brutally hot in August. Any advice for travel to Disney World in August? We are from Southern New Jersey so we are familiar with 90+ degree weather and humidity in the summer. Is it really that much worse in Disney World in August? We are planning to make time for the great BC pool in the middle of the day. Is the pool super crowded in the middle of the day at BC during August. Sorry for all the questions...just super excited:yay:
We were there this August. Best thing to do is go to the parks in the morning, back to the resort in the afternoon to rest and swim , then back to the parks at night.
I myself enjoyed the parks at night.
Either leave for a break in the middle of the day or plan a table service meal and indoor air conditioned rides and shows. It stormed about an hour everyday but maybe 2 days. Actually it was great for being in the parks when the rain came because the crowds cleared out lol.
It was not good if you were at the resort for your swim break because if there is lightening within 5 miles they close the pools.
We were out in the heat and did not go back to the resort on our AK and Epcot day and just dealt with it by having bottled water , a spray misting water bottle, getting into air conditioned buildings and rides, and had a table service meal in the hottest part of the day.
It really is sweaty hot but if you can find ways to get cooled off it is not that bad. The crowds bothered me more then the heat .
Some of my favorite rides to cool off were MK the Carousel of Progress, at AK Rafiki's Planet Watch, at Epcot Ellens Energy Adventure or The Seas With Nemo, and HS the Frozen Sing Along. Great places for a cool break.

Got it! :goodvibes:

Sorry about my lack lol BC - of course :)

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Yay! It's official. After changing plans no less than 5 times, we will be staying 2 nights at the Contemporary theme park view, and then moving to my most favorite resort -- the YACHT CLUB for 4 nights. Our dates for the Yacht Club are June 8-12, and we have a standard view club level room. :yay:

:welcome: back!

:woohoo:

Sounds like an awesome trip! I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

Love your avatar!

I am from Massachusetts and most of our Florida trips have been in July and August. It is hot, but not unbearable for us. The rain can be the worst part but that has varied from trip to trip.

Aug 2008- during Tropical Storm Faye. We had a couple of nice days and then it rained for the rest of the trip. Kept crowd levels down, though.

Aug 2014- two day trip. Raining while I came in on the Magical Express. That was the only rain I saw, though.

Aug 2015- We were at US for 4 nights, then Disney for 3 nights. We had heavy rain one afternoon, maybe two at Universal. At Disney, they were predicting Hurricane/TS Erika, but we only ended up with a fierce thunderstorm Saturday night and a rainstorm on Monday night of the trip.

For the heat/humidity- drink lots of water, take it slow, get into air-conditioning when you need to. If you split from your party, plan to meet back up in an air-conditioned space like a gift shop instead of outside of a ride.

Crowds are a bit lower in mid August and continue to decrease through the end of August.

Stormalong Bay is full, but again, it is so big that you can find some swimming space. Loungers can be hard to find, but we have always managed to locate chairs for our stuff. Sometimes we have to cross a few of the pool bridges by the lazy river and get to some of the more isolated seating.

:fish:

Great questions... I hope you get some replies, as we're in the EXACT same boat: same deal, same resort, same dates, and we're from the northeast. I was also planning on going to the parks in the morning, and back to the pool after lunch.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for August.

We got back last night from a wonderful 7 days/6 nights at the Yacht Club. We were on the third floor in a garden view room (Room 3216 to be specific). Resort CMs were wonderful and they were able to keep us in the same room after checking out of our room-only and in for our package, which I really appreciated since it was the Wine & Dine weekend and the place was booked pretty much solid. Our room was lovely and well-maintained, with no real signs of wear and tear. I did notice the carpet in the hallways was showing some wear. Housekeeping was great and quick to bring us extra towels and blankets when needed. It was much hotter than we'd expected, so we made good use of Storm Along Bay, and the kids had a blast playing in the pool. Enjoyed some to-go sundaes from Beaches & Cream, and stopped by the pool bar more than once for a Sunken Treasure--yum! Love the proximity to the Boardwalk, Epcot and HS. I took the girls down to the beach to watch the movie one night and to the Boardwalk another, and they were some of my favorite times of the trip. We enjoyed everything about the resort and I hated to leave.

Thanks so much for your review!

I see in your signature that you have a trip to the BC next year. August?

We don't have a timetable. Work on the lounge started in mid-October. Will probably be done sometime in December. Not sure if work on the 5th floor rooms will start immediately or if they will wait until after the start of the new year. In the first post of this thread, I have the outline of the timetable of the BC renovations. That is probably the best way to guestimate how far along the work will be at the time of your trip.

::yes::

Our view from 5701. An upgrade from a std CL to lagoon view ! Very nice!

Here are some wonderful CL offerings :)

Thank you so much for sharing these great pictures!

If you have the chance, could you add the view picture/room description to the Room View thread on the Community subforum? THANKS!

::yes::

Is the Lounge and the rooms done with renovations?

:welcome: to the thread!

Do you have an upcoming trip?

BC, yes
YC, renovations on the lounge are in process. Work on rooms has not started yet.

:)

Smart move to describe your room request wishes rather than specify a room number. Is a full balcony important to you? Since only 50% of the rooms at the Beach Club have the larger balconies, you may want to request that.

As far as standard views, these will either overlook the resort parking lot (front of the resort) or will overlook rooftops- could be anywhere. I don't know if any of the rooftop standard views also look out onto SAB. It is possible and you could request "Facing back of resort (lakeside), please" But I'm not sure how many, if any, rooms would fit into this description.

FYI- there is a thread in the Resort Community subforum for Beach Club Room Views where guests have posted pictures of views from their room in various categories. This would give you a sample of some of the views available in the standard category.

:goodvibes

I'm staying at YC, not BC...
The full balcony is pretty important as regardless of the view, I think the other half has plans on chilling on the balcony at the end of the night with a glass of wine / cocktail... better if it's with a nice view though I guess!

Right! I do have the correct resort written down, just replied as if you were staying BC.

:sad2:

Some of the worst standard views at the YC are towards the convention center end of the resort. You probably have the best bet for a decent view more centrally located ("close to lobby" or "close to main elevators") Some of the parking lot views at the YC will have a distant view of the MK fireworks.

Again, check out the View Thread (for the YC) for some samples of standard views.

:thumbsup2
