Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

If you are staying at BCV, you are allowed to use any pool on the Yacht Club/Beach Club property. "Pool hopping" would refer to using a pool at a different resort, such as BoardWalk.
Yup is that still officially banned?

Yes, I edited my post to add a quote from the DVC Member Services page which says that pool hopping for DVC members is not allowed. (I accidentally posted before I added that info.)
A certain irony that it was only really SAB that it was enforced!

I need a room with either a step-in (not roll-in) shower stall or a tub with hand rails. I currently have a water-view room at the Yacht Club.

Do the rooms at YC have shower stalls or are they still tubs?

I've chatted and called Disney and they just look things up and give their best guess, so I figured I am better off getting answers here on the DIS from those who know.

There are no step in showers the showers have a raised area as the bottom of the shower. It is a slight step up but there is no ledge where you then step down. There are (2) Water View rooms that have a tub with handrails. Here is a picture of the standard shower as an attachment below.

Also you might ask over on the disABILITIES forum at https://www.disboards.com/forums/disabilities.20/

The YC as quite a few shower only rooms but you appear to be asking for handrails also. I don't know of any that match that configuration. What is wrong with a roll-in shower that would have handrails?

Never ask a complex question over chat. You should only ask basic park or resort details over chat.

The room we had earlier this month was a shower only. It did not have hand rails. The photo @Dave006 posted could have been of our shower. I would just add that the silver bar you see in that photo is a towel bar, not a grab bar. Good luck finding what you need.

I would actually CALL and ask for an accessible room and see if there is one within the room type you booked. We did this and I specified that we needed grab bars within the room/shower but did not need a roll-in or wheelchair accessible room. We were booked in an accessible room called a Florida Special (??—I think it was called “special”).

Where did you get this floor plan at?

The first post has floor plans for both Yacht & Beach club. They’re old maps, from before the garden & standard room categories were turned into resort view. But they still give a pretty good idea of room types & locations.

For some unexplainable reason, Disney doesn't put handrails in their tubs and showers, unless it is handicapped accessible. I never could understand that. We've stayed in a few YC rooms with the shower instead of the tub/shower combo, and they didn't have handrails.

Actually the shower you describe is what I call a step-in shower (as opposed to a roll-in shower ). If I can be sure I'll get a shower stall, then it's all good, and I don't need to consider an accessible room.

I only want handrails if I have a room with a tub. Shower stall is okay. I'm unsteady getting into a tub because I injured my knee on my last Disney trip when the bus suddenly stopped. I've had a room with a roll-in shower (simply because it was all the hotel had when I arrived while roadtripping) and it was terribly slippery because the entire bathroom floor was wet, by design.

Thank you for responding.

Sorry but you can't be sure that you will get a shower stall. For a regular room reservation, you may get either a Tub or a walk-in shower at the YC. You can always make a request for a room with a shower vs a tub but it is just a request. There are quite a few walk-in showers (your term step-in) since it is a Convention hotel.

If you need a confirmed specific bathroom configuration, you need to book an Accessible room: Water View. Wheelchair accessible with tub and option for hearing accessibility. 2 queen beds. It will have Wheelchair-Accessible Route in Room, and Grab Bars at Toilet and Tub.

pwdebbie: You have a good chance of getting a step in shower. We've had many rooms with a walk in shower without requesting it. Call and request a walk in shower for medical reasons, I wouldn't trust the chat feature. When you arrive stop at the front desk and ask if your request has been granted, even if your room isn't ready they will know. If they put you in a room with a tub politely ask to be moved to a room with a walk in shower. You may have to wait longer for a room but they will do everything they can to accommodate you. I would use the more common term and request a walk in shower to avoid confusion.

Edited to add. Sorry I don't know why the above is in bold letters, and the edit isn't . 🤷‍♀️ I didn't know how that happened, I didn't do that on purpose.

Just got back from Yacht Club. We originally were booked at POFQ and were upgraded, which I was really excited for. We got the King Bed we requested and loved having the couch in the room. Minus having a microwave, it felt more like a DVC studio. Our room was on the quiet pool side, 3rd floor. The area was quiet and we never heard anything but some booms from fireworks at night. There is some noise from construction out by the lighthouse but that didn’t bother us. We enjoyed using the friendship boats to Epcot (we walked it once and then used the boats. Our feet hurt) and HS. We also thought the lobby was beautiful and loved the smell. We did have a few disappointments though and I probably would have been upset had I paid full price. The resort seemed boring. The weather was cool but I only saw kids activities by the pool once. (I saw very few kids there, maybe d/t the pool refurbishment) You had to go down to BC for marshmallows/movie. The lobby music is basic elevator music and it just didn’t “feel Disney”. I also noted there are no outlets/USB ports on the nightstands. We had to plug in by the TV, and the bathroom was really small.( The door misses the toilet by less than 1/2 inch.) The hot tub was lukewarm at best. these are nit picky issues and we enjoyed our stay but I would not have been happy paying top dollar at this resort. Maybe it was just us, and YC just wasn’t a good fit, I just wanted to share our experience.

It seems like the shower thing would be an important room request for OP.

My advice is:
call and have it put on your reservation.

Then call back about 2 weeks before your arrival date and have them read the room request back to you.

Do it again 10 days before your arrival date.

I have had several stays where I checked in, and had not gotten what I requested. I know you don't always get what you want. But when I asked at the front desk, I was told that there was no request on my resie. I think the requests sometimes either are not put in correctly, or mysteriously drop off.

If it were super important to me, I might even call again the day before my arrival date. That way, if I didn't get what I wanted and the front desk said there was no request on my resie, I could try to find out what had happened.

Pointless. Your room has already been assigned by then and the people on the phone are not the front desk of your resort so they cannot tell you where your room is.
But if I arrive and am told that there is no room request on my resie, I would like to be able to say, "Interesting, because the request was on there yesterday."

I know you can't always get what you request, but if my resie doesn't even show that I made a request, then something is going on.

Disney World Files Permit for Roof Repairs & Exterior Refurbishment at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

A new permit filed by Walt Disney World previews some refurbishment work that will kick off shortly at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. The work, which is being managed by the Walt Disney World Resort (not Walt Disney Imagineering), is for some roof repairs and exterior refurbishment at the resort. Here are the details.

The contractor for the work is listed as CEC General Contractors Inc, and the scope of the work to be completed is “Exterior Rehab and Roof Shingle Replacement”. The permit has a blank expiration date, which means that it’ll have the default 1-year expiration date from the date it was filed.

The Yacht Club is already a bit of a construction zone with the ongoing refurbishment of the Stormalong Bay pool, which will be completed in June.

Back in April 2024, Walt Disney World listed a room refurbishment for Disney’s Yacht Club, but mention of that room refurbishment was later removed from the website. Walt Disney World has not returned a request for comment about the removal of mention of the room refurbishment.

For now, it looks like we can expect that an exterior refurbishment of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will kick off shortly, with some roof work and exterior refurb on the docket.

Quick review of the Nantucket Suite, as those specialty rooms tend to get less info on.

This is a peculiar “VP” suite, as it is a one-bedroom only, which will sleep up to 4 people.

We had never stayed at the Beach Club before, but the decor felt upgraded vs the standard rooms and suites, based on what I could see.

The room is quite spacious and the decoration is lovely. We particularly liked the bathroom, with a tube including bath amenities and a very spacious walk-in shower.

We also appreciated the 1/2 bath by the entrance, which came in handy as we had four people in our party.

The balcony off the living room was nice, with a couple of chairs and enough space. It overlooks the back entrance courtyard to the left and the boardwalk to the right. There is also a second small balcony off the bedroom, overlooking SAB pool (which was unfortunately closed for deep maintenance).

The only negative aspect was the pullout bed in the living room. The mattress is thin and not particularly comfortable.

Happy to answer any questions!
