Disney's Story Maker

Is it just me, or is anyone else a little uneasy about the recent proliferation of what DH calls "time wasters"? All the interactive quest games in the parks. Can't help wondering if it's Disney's way of keeping us all occupied after we've used our 3 FPs for the day and are sick of the long standby queues once the + system is up and (hopefully) operational.

Or am I just becoming increasingly cynical in my old age?

I don't have any info about Disney Story Maker but admit that I am interested to know also.

But on another note, my DS loved Sorcerers of MK too. Have you heard about the new Pirate's Adventure that is suppose to be coming to MK?? It sounds like something my DS would love also. Here is a link with a little bit of info about it.

will have to look further into this pirate game their introducing sounds good

I appreciate the links. Really, I do. But even after reviewing those webpages, I still really have little idea what Story Maker is. Could someone just explain it simply?

...ummm, am I the only one who took from those links that, "The Story Maker is this interactive thing involving all parks that people are really going to like"?! :confused3

The Treasure of the Seven Seas is about being a pirate, exploring, and finding treasure and is seemingly NOT card based like Sorcerer's...

But, ah, I'm not getting what the "story line" if you will, is in this instance...

Not a Google search, nor a Disney site, or the DIS can explain...what in the world?!

color me officially intrigued about this Story Maker thing. Never heard of it, but would love to know more...

From StitchKingdom:

Speaking of achievements, we have also seen some recent movement on the Walt Disney World NextGen front with an additional trademark registration for ‘Story Maker’ (one was previously filed for ‘My Story Maker’). We believe this to be related to the ‘Story Author’ patent we described here which will use guests’ MagicBand bracelets to track which attractions a guest has visited and automatically collect video and photos and compile a ‘storybook’ akin to an achievement such as riding all of the Magic Kingdom mountains, or a birthday memory which can than be used as an upsell in merchandising, as part of the total ‘My Disney Experience.’

Thank you, so much. That's been the only thing I've seen that's given me a clue as to what this Story Maker thing might be. Sounds cool!

I totally agree!

This is helpful! Thank you. And for those who are interested, it says:

While we don’t have a lot of details on exactly what Memory Maker (or My Memory Maker) will encompass, it seems that guests will be able to interact with certain props in queues for attractions and create video memories that they can see on their phones or when they return home. A prop recently installed at MuppetVision 3-D may give us some clues to how Memory Maker works:

If what we have heard is correct, guests could walk up to this mirror and prompt an interactive moment with The Muppets that will be video recorded by stationary hidden cameras. The guest’s MagicBand would be read and the system would connect the guest with their account on MyDisneyExperience, sending their video right into their app on their phone. Guests without the app should receive an email with the video.

The idea behind this is guests are often so busy doing attractions and sticking to a schedule to get everything done in a given day that they forget to take out their cameras and record moments from their vacation. This offering would be an interactive and fun way to save guest’s the hassle and make sure they have some video from their vacation when they return home. Also, what guest won’t want to interact with some of their favorite characters while they wait in line?
