Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Quick question about check in. We are planning on hitting the Magic Kingdom upon arrival (around 11am or 12 noon) and I don't think our room will be ready that early. If we leave our luggage with bell hop, will they take it to our room when ready, or do we need to go back and get our stuff ourselves? We aren't arriving via magical express and could leave our stuff in the car, but some things I hate just sitting in plain view (we have an SUV!).

Looks like we booked a Pool View room for our trip next year. My fiance has a few medical conditions that sometimes make long walks a bit difficult for him; which area do you think we should request to be closer to the bus stops?

Your room might be ready, but that's not guaranteed of course (you stand a better chance if you are not fussy about requests). Bell Services will store your bags, and when you get to the room just give them a call and they will bring them to you.

Request a room close to one of the bus stops, and mention the medical reasons. As the bus stops are all around the resort, it wouldn't help to be too specific in location. Just being close to a bus stop could put you further away from the main building though, so perhaps it's worth adding that to your request too.

Thank you so much for the advice!

Having trouble deciding. I already booked a Royal Room for our April trip because I thought it was so cute and we have a 4 year old daughter. I also thought my 9 year old DS would be amused by the headboard. Now I'm reading this thread and looking at the maps and wondering if I should call my TA and change it over to a preferred room because it looks like the royal rooms are inconvenient to the main building and bus stops. How long is the walk? Should I change?

We just got back from our trip yesterday and if you have a map handy, we were in Alligator Bayou #37 It was nice and close to the North Stop, maybe 2-3 minute walk tops. BUT if you look at the map you can see that AB 37 is just about the farthest away from the main building. We were able to make that walk (at a slow pace) in maybe 7-10 minutes tops (my wife has trouble walking so we walked pretty slow most times). The map makes it look a lot farther than it actually is. Each morning I jogged around the entire property and it took me 25-30 minutes. Hopefully that helps you judge the time and distance a little.

BUT as a neat trick, all of the park buses do the other stops first, then the South (main) entrance last before they head off to the parks. So if you are close to the east, north or west depots, you can jump on any bus and they go to the main building last, before they head out to their respective parks.

For the park buses, I'd rather get on at East, North or West. The South (main) entrance always had a LOT of people waiting to get on. We never got turned away to wait for the next bus at the North depot, but a lot of people at the south had to wait for the next bus as it was full :(

The preferred rooms are close to the main building and the fold down bed would be perfect for your nine year old.

as Andre said they will bring it to you once you call and request it, but not like MDE does were they do it automatically.
Well worth the tip to not risk it by leaving stuff n the car though

Thank you @andrewilley and @dmband! I am so glad they will bring it! If our room isn't ready we will go ahead and leave our luggage with bellhop and then call when back in the room. Tipping isn't a concern for me; I was just wondering if we would have to go get it ourselves which might might be annoying after a day at the parks!

I just booked for the week after Thanksgiving! This will be our first time staying :) I'm curious to know what to expect for holiday decorations at the resort. Will there be a Christmas tree in the lobby and other holiday decorations?

Also, I've booked us a standard room since that was the only category available. We are a party of 3 (my little guy is 2.5). My question is what are the chances of getting a room in AB? My little guy would really enjoy the pull down bed. I think I just answered my own question (slim to no chances) since preferred locations are not available for booking? I guess that means we'd be staying in the Mansions? I realize that the standard category means view of the parking lot- any advice on what I could add to our booking to get a courtyard view?

I appreciate any thoughts!

There are AB rooms that aren't preferred, so you'd have a decent chance.

We just got back from POR on October 23, and we had a Garden View room in Alligator Bayou (#37) . Ours had the pull down bench bed.... I think we all wanted to try it but we're all too big ;)

We stayed at Riverside in mid Nov 2014, and near the end of your trip we came back to a decorated resort. =) It's not as grand / fancy as the deluxes, but definitely pretty!IMG_0278.jpg

I'd still like to hear from Dis'ers who have been during the holidays. Will the resort be fully decorated the week after Thanksgiving?
