Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

We are booked for New Year's Eve! Kids don't know yet! I just have a question about the Murphy bed in the Alligator Bayou. How high is it off the floor? The photos make it look quite high and I am worried about a child falling off. I really like the idea of the Murphy bed so the kids can sleep in separate beds. Thanks!

It isn't that high off the floor. I would guess that it is maybe 18 to 20 inches. It is a lot lower than the bed. And it was lower than the height of the seat of a chair.

You can request a bed rail if you think they might fall out of bed.

We are staying at POR in a royal room for the first time (actually our first trip to WDW ever!). We are only there 2 nights and are planning on spending one full day at Epcot. We will have a rental car. Are we better off to take the car to Epcot or leave it at the hotel and take the bus?

We have officially booked our honeymoon trip, and will be staying at Riverside! It was my first choice, and I'm so glad we were able to get it. We will be there for five days next October, before heading on a cruise to the Bahamas :yay:

Not all of the rooms in each building have the same category. Here's the layout of building 14 for example:

The yellow rooms are Preferred category, the blue ones are River View and the purple ones King Bed. So yes, if you booked River View (not preferred) then you could indeed be placed in any of those blue rooms in building 14 (in fact in any blue rooms around the resort, apart from the Royal section).

Thanks!!! I'm guessing request is still the 3-5 day window and through FAX is the best answer? Do you suggest checking in on-line?

Really personal choice. We hate the busses, so prefer driving, but others hate having to drive on vacation!

If you are arriving early, your car will be close to the entrance, so no waiting on a tram. Also, no wait at the end of the night if you plan to stay until close. But if you are arriving and leaving at odd hours, I'd recommend the bus.

Since you are only there for a day, I would just drive. We drive to WDW but rarely ever use our vehicle, we have no issues with the buses or other WDW transportation.

Does any one know if any of the themeing has changed at POR (specifically the alligator bayou area) since the push to remove all alligator/crocodile likenesses from the parks? I have a little boy who is pretty excited about the theme and just want to prepare him if it has changed!

New Year's Eve question.

We arrive in the evening on Dec 31 - most likely too late to venture out to one of the parks. Will there be New Year's Eve activities at the resort? Can you see any fireworks from POR? (When we were at Coronado Springs last year we could see the fireworks from Hollywood Studios - that was pretty cool!).

Other than visiting a park, any other suggestions for ringing in the New Year?

Nope, no change to any of the theming at POR or POFQ. There's a fence round the pool areas though, which could be slightly related.

The resort normally has some activities, and will usually screen the New Year broadcasts on a large screen. See the archived schedules at http://www.portorleans.org/recreation-schedules.php for last year's details. You can see the top of some of the fireworks, but really not in any great detail.

Thank you, sounds like driving will be the most time efficient.

I am not so sure about that!! When you add the time it takes to park and then walking from the parking deck into Disney Springs. Plus the boat ride is just so peaceful and the scenery is so pretty that it is well worth it. Then when your time is done its a nice feeling that you don't have to worry about getting back to your car and fighting traffic to get back POR. The other nice thing, is that on the boat its not like a bus. There is no over crowding, so standing. So its a nice comfortable ride. I would pick this option

So just to clarify we can take the boat over to Disney Springs and then just walk to Epcot from there? We haven't been to WDW so I'm not familiar with where everything is just yet! That certainly sounds like a better option than either driving or taking the bus!

No....I think @fbarker mistook your response about being more efficient driving (to Epcot) to mean more efficient driving to DS (since there had been a discussion about the boat to DS above your comment). Your options for getting to Epcot would be car or bus only.

I've never clocked the bus to Epcot, but it seems pretty quick to me.

Gotcha, thanks!
