Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

First, as you have a Preferred Location booking you won't get a river facing room unless they upgrade you. Otherwise, just let them know that you'd like an upper floor room as close as possible to the main building, and add that if they can find you a corner or even better a river facing room that would be wonderful.

Thanks Andre- but let me ask, in Building 14 for example, part of the building faces the water. Since that entire building is designated as "Preferred," wouldn't some of those individual rooms offer a water or river view? Or, is what you are telling me that even though B14 is "preferred," if someone booked a river view and not "preferred" that they could still be placed in that building?

Anyone else at POR during Matthew? It was such an awful experience. I am still in shock with how poorly this hotel operated and sadly do not feel like ever staying at POR again.

Overthinking maybe? I have stayed at this resort a few times. I am an early riser and wake up before the sun rises. I normally would get our families mugs and stroll down and wait for coffee. Now thinking of where our rooms always seem to be, there are dark areas that always freaked me out like the tree frogs jumping out at me, but my fear is real this time. Right past the bridge going towards the pool is the area. I'm scared to death of an alligator.

I think you're overthinking.

I'm just going to be flat out real here. I assume that you are a fully grown adult. The size of an alligator that it would take to cause you damage would be rather large. An alligator that size would not doubt have been noticed by officials...well, before it reached that size. I would not worry about this for one more minute.

Buildings are no categorized as Preferred, only rooms are. Building 14 has 3 different room categories; King, River View and Preferred. So yes, someone who books a River View (or King ) room can be in Building 14.

What did you find that POR specifically did wrong compared to other hotels? Bear in mind that their own staff (other than the volunteer ride-out-crew) would need to be allowed to go home for safety during the worst of the hurricane so they would need to close most facilities during the worst of the storm.

Not all of the rooms in each building have the same category. Here's the layout of building 14 for example:

The yellow rooms are Preferred category, the blue ones are River View and the purple ones King Bed. So yes, if you booked River View (not preferred) then you could indeed be placed in any of those blue rooms in building 14 (in fact in any blue rooms around the resort, apart from the Royal section).

Hi all,

We arrive this coming Friday. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the tv's i the room have accessible HDMI inputs? I'm bringing a mac book with some movies etc.. on it. I was thinking in the evening hours, we might want to watch a movie or something that's not on tv. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I don't know where our room will be other than its a "garden view"... (in case that matters)

Hi Andre

The major issue was the complete disorganization of the food process. We came back from a day at the parks to many messages on our phones and one specific message about food. The message stated that box lunches would be sold from 4pm to 8pm and at 8pm dining would close. It was the most disorganized experience I have ever witnessed. First off before they sent the resort into full panic starvation is coming mode they could have prepared for the 1000+people that were about to slam the cafeteria (not including all the people joining us from the French Quarter). They ran out of box lunches in one hour, people were in line for 4 to 5 hours waiting for food, I know because I was one of them. They should have setup 10 tables with basic food choices (example: tuna, turkey, ham, veggie, peanut butter) and then people could quickly move through the line getting what they need. Instead we waited ridiculous hours so people could get a custom sandwich with extra mayo and hold the pickles, add onions!, or a custom made salad, or fresh made pasta, etc. The next 48 hours good luck if you needed help in the 3 hour long line in the lobby or if you had a complaint about anything the manager at the time was the second rudest person we met at Disney that week. This is not a complaint about staff and i get people needing to get home but they are in the service industry and those jobs do not always stop. And as for the manager he was pathetic and i wish i could remember his name right now. We paid to be there, they get paid to be there, big difference.

So excited to be staying at POR in March! Just booked a Standard room today for a week with my kids (DD6 and DS9.) DH has decided he'll stay home this time around ... hoping to get a Mansion Room.
Thanks to all previous posters who have made this such an invaluable thread!

We just returned from a week stay, Sep 28-Oct 5, we stayed in the AB section, room 3410. Overall the stay was nice. We had an incident where on of our travel party broke her ankle stepping of the Magical Express on day one. Marc at the concierge desk was very helpful with getting her medical attention. The walk from the main building to the room was a bit much for her, thankfully we were right by the West Depot. Encountered one very rude cast member in the gift shop, refused to assist us in finding a product, kept shoving the information about the Disney Shop App in my face, coming from Canada we do not have it. She told I was wrong about my not having it as "everyone" does lol.

No, you were right, the shopping app is USA only. You can't even install it while you are within the US if your phone is not registered there. (I tried)

Is there a way to see room types for all buildings?

I know I'm late to the party on this one, but I just found out you can no longer rent Sea Raycers at PO. So sad.

There are three floors in the central segment of the mansion buildings (which is where the elevators are located). However the nicest River View rooms are the ones at the end of the extended wings which directly overlook the river, and that part of the building has only two stories.

Awesome info!! Do you know the room numbers off hand. Just want to be sure I request the correct rooms! Thanks.

Ok, have 4 rooms at Riverside - booked River View Category. I'm leaning towards Mansions section. My question is I have the 4 rooms and was hoping to get them together. In Magnolia there is only one block with 4 together and a couple of them are handicap accessible, so not sure if they would issue them to someone without those needs. Acadian has a bunch together on 2nd and 3rd floors. I was hoping for the 1st so we could just walk out. I don't guess it would be bad to be spread out in Magnolia. I think I would prefer that building since it's closer to the Old Man Bridge.

Do both Acadian and Magnolia have elevators in all sections? Should I look for anything in particular as far as specific room numbers?

Thanks in advance.

Goodness, that quote is from nearly 100 pages ago! :) This is the layout of Magnolia Terrace anyway, although from your next message I think you might have found it anyway:

Only the central section has elevators (as you can see above) so if you need to use one then the Magnolia Terrace river view rooms are quite a distance around the building. I think I'd try for Acadian House to be honest, and try to avoid the rooms directly on the corners next to the central stairwell/elevators. These top-floor ones would be nice for example:

How hard is it to get a king bed? I'm booked in a preferred room for my Jan stay with hubby and we'd love a king bed. What area also it close to food court? Thx!

Can't answer the question about the king bed, but if you have a preferred room, you'll be close to the food court.
