Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

I just booked a 7-night stay. The web site had a red-lettered warning about Resort refurbishment!
What exactly is being refurbished?!?!
Our stay dates are during Thanksgiving week .

On the Port Orleans website it talks about installing fences around the quiet pools and redoing some walk ways. Maybe that is it? I hope!

For anyone staying at Port Orleans at the moment (or if you are just in the area and want to pop by) we've got a small informal meet at the River Roost Lounge (next to the POR lobby) at 7pm on Saturday 6th August. Everyone is welcome, see you there?

Oh man! I wish I could be there! You're about 6 months too early for me!

Tap water in all of The Orlando area (maybe more) has a strong sulfur taste/smell. It's the local water supply, not Disney, that's the culprit. So yes, it's bad from Grand Floridian to All Star.

Yup. Tap water at Disney is definitely not magical. I have a Camelbak Groove. The filter definitely helps.

Has anyone ever seen dish soap for sale in the resort store? I need it to clean a mouthguard I have to wear every night and I hate to travel with a bottle and can't find any small ones. Thanks!

Not sure if it's for sale, but I travel with a small, generic travel bottle that I fill with dish soap (for washing our mugs). I think the bottle was intended for shampoo, but does the trick!!

Why not just buy a small empty travel bottle, and pour your cleaner into it.

I'll try this, I just had some concerns about it leaking. I've never used the refillable travel bottles. Thanks!

Andre -

can you dial 8844 and find out where POR is included in the BB for 2017?

EDIT: I found it on ITM.

Yes, they do. Last trip in May, I forgot our dish soap at home. Found a bottle of Dawn dish soap at the store for $1.99. 9 ozs 266ml.

We have always loved Port Orleans. Unfortunately, June was our last trip to Port Orleans and we probably won't be back at this wonderful resort again. We fell for the DVC pitch and bought into the Polynesian. My only regret to purchasing into the DVC membership is that it takes Port Orleans away from us. Anyhow, it's been fun and there will always be a special place in my heart for Port Orleans along with fantastic memories from night swimming at Ol Man Island.

We bought into DVC in 2014 and have been using our points for some great trips at DVC properties. But...guess what...I also have a Disney Vacation Account that had a little money it - enough to pay for a three night getaway at POR back in April for a getaway for just my husband and I. We also had an annual pass at the time. So...I convinced my husband that we needed an adults only long weekend at WDW, so... You never know...

Alligator Bayou room question - is there an outlet near the window? I can't remember if there is one under the table as you enter the room?
If I remember correctly the heat/air is under the window but there is an outlet under the table near by

Headed to Orlando on Saturday for our second Disney trip and second stay at POR. I don't have a question, I just needed somewhere to go YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!! :-) I'm a *little* excited, can you tell? :-) We'll be celebrating my son's 9th birthday while we're there and I can't wait!

Oh, wait, I do have a question. Our flight doesn't leave until after 9pm the day we leave. If we ask for a late check out, what are our chances? And how late is "late?"

It sounds like you'll have a wonderful trip. :)

I don't know what your chances are but usually you can only have as late as a 1pm without it costing extra. You can ask the front desk about a day or two before you check out and see if they can let you have it. We've been able to get it about 50% of the time.

Awesome, thanks! :-) Now, what to do with myself until Saturday... clearly, I'm not concentrating on work. Oops. :-)
