Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Our original plan was to take the bus to MK and monorail to TTC where the boat leaves from for the Ferrytale Wishes Dessert Party. We had worked plenty of time into our schedule. After the fiasco regarding the room, the manager offered to have us driven straight there to try to make up for the lost hours at Epcot. The CM driving us was 20 minutes late arriving and then insisted we did not go to the TTC. She was rude and yelled at us when we tried to explain what we were doing. She insisted we needed to go inside MK (which was the wrong dessert party). She seemed to be lost and driving aimlessly for quite a while before finally pulling over to ask directions. When we finally got her to let us out of the van, I made the right decision to turn to our left and grab the boat that was just leaving for TTC. Had we opted for the monorail or hesitated for a split second, we would have missed the whole thing.
Yikes! That dessert party on the boat from TTC is pretty new so CM prob didn't know about it. But still, no excuse for rudeness.

What is everyone's experience with online check in? Has it worked out that you could just go straight to your room?

Just there a week ago. Did online check in but had to go to desk in lobby. No straight to room like at other resorts we've stayed at.

I used it for the first time in February. I landed and I had a text that my room was ready. I got off of ME and went straight to my room. It was wonderful.
I arrive on Thursday and I got an email on Friday confirming my online check-in. It also said "And now, for the first time, you may be able to skip the front desk when you arrive." So I know it is not definite, but it is a possibility that I could get that text after my flight lands. We'll see! I'm so excited!!!

Can anyone give me their experience with the WDW bus system at POR? I am considering this resort for our Jan/Feb trip. I won't go to CBR because you have like 5 or 6 stops within the resort until you actually leave the grounds. I want a worry-free system in place where I don't have to wait and wait just to get to and from the parks.

CBR actually has 7 stops, POR has 4. We have stayed at both and have had good service at both. Check out the transportation page of Andre's awesome website for details and tips.

Does anyone know what options you get when you do online check-in for Riverside? High floor, near pool, etc.? Do they ask you Alligator Bayou or Magnolia Bend?
I can't remember all the options but I do know that they did not include Alligator Bayou or Magnolia Bend. I had to call to have it added to the reservation.

About a month away now! Very excited! Our first time at POR and we are really looking forward to. In the middle of our trip we have planned a resort day. I have read about some of the activities they offer on Andre's site. Any must do's or hidden gems?

Do all reservations made get the reservation packets in the mail? I know that my 180+10 happens near Thanksgiving but it's bothersome that we don't have anything in the mail about our "Incredible Vacation" yet. Our packet arrived already for our September 2016 reservation - and we made that about a week after our May trip. Weird.

We are going in June and have already received ours.

Unfortunately you were given incorrect information.

I spoke with Disney again. They said with the recent refurbishments at POR there are rooms that accommodate a family of 5 in Magnolia Bend?!?

We aren't super picky, but out TA put this in as a room request, so I hope it is right!

Nope, I'm afraid "Disney" are wrong - which department did you speak to, the main Disney Reservations Center booking number? If so, challenge them on it and ask them to confirm with someone in the Room Inventory Department actually at the resort itself to clarify their facts. They are welcome to check my site too, but the DRC tends to be very good at poo-pooing third-party internet sites, while not exactly being bastions of factual accuracy themselves. The next round of room refits at Port Orleans is not due to start until 2017.

Where can I research room request? We want close to food court and we will be using only the buses. Is there a thread about room request?

Thus your best request would be "close to food court and bus stop". Some people prefer upper floor rooms and/or corner rooms, so you might like to add that as a secondary request.

ahhhhhh how I miss this thread! We had to cancel our trip due to financial reasons :-( But now we are definitely going back Sept 2016 for DD's birthday! We talked about going to Art of Animation but we love this place too much to switch. Now I'm researching for something BIG to surprise my DD on the day of ther 10th birthday....any ideas or at least steer me in the right direction (posts/threads)?

A Must Do!! is definitely YeeHaw Bob!!! We also really enjoy the carriage ride around the resort. After all the hustle and bustle in the parks, it provides a very nice quiet activity for the family.
