Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Awesome! That makes me super happy!!

Thanks!!!

That made me think of another question...will it freeze everything or just what is towards the back? I'll put the uncrustables and water bottles along the back and then put reg drinks and leftover desserts to the front.

Im not really sure about that :scratchin
We only kept water bottles in ours, with the exception of leftovers one night.
I don't recall if one part of the fridge kept thing colder than the other.
Sorry!!!

Hmmmmm, I'll have to check it out then. Then the question will be...which is more important, the chocolate cake they give you as a quick service dessert orrrr my uncrustables :faint:

Quick question...we will be staying in AB as we are a family of 5+1. If there are no closets where do we keep suitcases? I guess we could always unpack them and store them in our car?

There's space beside the sinks in the wash area (or on top of the shelf in there). Also, I usually keep one of our cases next to our bed (between the second bed and the bathroom wall) where it makes a very convenient bedside table to put my phone on, etc.

It rather depends on the individual fridge and how it's set. It's not meant to freeze stuff (obviously!) but if it's going to, then the back wall would be your best bet.

Is there any place to print out my boarding passes for the flight home? I will have a computer to check in but will have to pay a fee to get tickets at the airport. Flying spirit if that makes a difference.

We just checked out of POR this morning and our boarding passes were printed out at the Resort Airline Check In desk. They give you a number to call if you have to pay to check bags, you have to do that beforehand. Not sure about spirit, but this was how it worked for Southwest. Very easy!!

We are thinking of switching to POR for our trip next year. We stayed 15 years ago for our honeymoon in oak manor so will be lovely to go back for our anniversary with Ds (8).
I'm unsure of which category of room to book, I really want to stay in the mansion houses and not have too crazy a walk to the main building. The royal rooms look great, would a standard room there meet my wishes. I'm a bit squeamish about the alligator bayou rooms ( mad I know) so I am thinking a royal room assures me a mansion building.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

We arrive in 16 days!!! I have a couple of questions.
1. Confirming the refrigerators in room DO NOT have a freezer section.
2. They have box fans based on availability.

Thanks :)

They do not have a freezer section, but the upper top corner froze our yogurt and pop. :) Don't know about box fans, but each room has a ceiling fan. Hope this helps!

We too stayed at the GF last year for a once in a lifetime trip paid for by my parents. This year was an unplanned, unbudgeted trip to POR. We planned to wait until we could save for WL but once I saw how cheap we could get POR for free dining we decided to go for it! I know I will miss sipping a glass of wine on the balcony while the littles nap, but we will survive!

We kept some suitcases underneath the closet rod to the side of the bathroom counter and some in the corner between the table and the window. We had 5 suitcases and didn't have a problem.

2 adults traveling in September. Only other Disney resort we have stayed at was pop century last time. So, first time to stay at POR. Very excited. We booked and paid for a king bed through disney's website. Later I called and requested alligator bayou section. I do plan to re-request when I do pre check 60 days in advance. I might even call/fax the resort with the request. How likely would this request be fulfilled? Any other advice to make sure this is fulfilled? Also what kinds of views should I be expecting with a king bed room? From what I read it seems like river or pool. I just want to make sure I am not facing the parking lot and that I get the bayou section. I'd also like to be somewhat close to the main buildings. Anything else I should put in my request?

Stayed at pop century last time. Flew through spirit. There was no computer at the resort and I do believe I asked the front desk about printing my boarding passes and they couldn't. And I do believe I did pre flight check in on my phone, and just could not print out boarding pass. So we had to print them out at the airport when we got there. I don't remember there being a fee.

King Bed rooms are scattered all around the resort, in all view categories and areas (except for the Royal Rooms). You should request Alligator Bayou as your first priority, and then ask to be located as close as possible to the main building. This cannot be done via Online Checkin options at present, my tips on how and when to make requests are given at http://www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php .

My son just tore his ACL in his knee and willbe about 2 month post surgery when we go at the end of August. When we do online checkin is there a space to request ground floor? We have a GV room booked and I'm also going to request AB. Any other thoughts on room location that would make it easier to get around. I also think we'll be renting a wheelchair form offsite and we will have a car although we prefer to use the buses.

Yes there is, but if it's related to a medical condition I'd suggest contacting the resort separately by fax to explain the situation. See link in previous post to yours.

During the FD craziness I snagged a preferred room, since then I was able to reduce the price by getting a garden view. We will be in the AB area since we are a family of 5. I see they have bike rentals, but are we allowed to bring our own bikes to get around the resort? Do they have places to park the bikes and lock them up? We just figured it wouldn't matter if we were close to the food court and pool, if we could just bike there. We are driving, so throwing the bikes on the back of the car, is no big deal. Is this idea crazy?

You'd most likely have to stash the bikes in your room when not in use. I've never seen any sort of bike racks around the resorts myself.

It would probably get a little cramped with 5 people and bikes. Lol. Do you think it is worth it to get a preferred room? M on the fence, DH doesn't think so.

I have not seen any bike racks on property. Yes I think a preferred room is worth the extra money. The walk is short and very convenient.

Thanks, I called and put in my request. I will also fax and put on the online checkin.

We will be making our second ever trip at the end of July, and I am SOOOO excited!! We stayed at POR 4 years ago and absolutely fell in love with it. I do have a couple of questions regarding online check in, room requests etc.

My son has autism and can't handle a long time at the parks, so we are planning on generally just hanging out at the resort and pool by around 1-2 each day. We will eat dinner each day at the food court. When I made the reservation, the very nice lady I spoke with asked about room preferences. I told her I definitely wanted to stay in AB, because it seems more "spread out" than the mansions and we really just prefer them. Also requested first floor, as my son can jump around and be quite loud with his heavy walking. She asked if I had a building preference, and I told her I thought we stayed in maybe 17 or 18 last time and it was perfect. (We had a standard view room but didn't care about facing the parking lot....then again, it was the end of September and not terribly busy). This time, we got a garden view, because that was the lowest priced one that was available with the room only discount when we booked.
So, should I still fax a request if I can reiterating that we want AB and first floor, and asking to be closer to the food court? We don't mind walking some, but don't really want to the stuck at the back end of the resort when we will be probably going to the food court often.
Also, if you do the online check in ahead of time, does that have anything to do with your requests? Can you request those things when you do the online check in? Can you still fax requests even if you did the online check in?

One more thing......sorry!!......I'm usually a fan of online EVERYTHING, as I have social anxiety, but when we visited the last time, the CM when we checked in asked if we were celebrating anything. It was both DH and DS's birthdays during that trip, and they got birthday buttons to wear. This time, it will be MY birthday :). If I don't do online check in, and we just go to the desk, will they give me a birthday button? Or don't they do that anymore? It's a silly thing, but my "boys" rarely do anything for me for my birthday, and I just thought it would be fun to have SOMEONE make a big deal out of it ;)

The front desk at Port Orleans French Quarter was able to print my airline boarding passes last year (October).

I don't have an answer to the first part, but you can go get a birthday button at the desk or any of the parks
