Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Thanks Sue M. Yeah, we toured POFQ this past September and really liked the small size, the brick paver streets and the tree covered walkways. We like the manicured gardens too. However, I really didn't care much for the tiny food court, and especially the decor in there. It's personal preference, but I just don't like the 6 foot tall faces hanging from the ceiling or the juggling jesters, etc...

Our last two WDW trips were to POR, which we love, but we were just looking for something a little different. The good thing is, it's just a short walk over there (POFQ) to use the pool, show the kids the resort, etc...

Dan

It is a pretty resort. I agree about the masks in food court, creepy, lol! But then I don't like clown pool at BW either! I don't look up!

Hi, I have booked a "Pool View" room at Riverside. On the web page http://www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php I read that "Pool View" is available at several buildings including building 18, which is also listed on that website as a "Preferred View" building. Does anyone know whether having a "Pool View" reservation would allow me to get a room in building 18, a preferred building, assuming rooms will be available?

I don't think so, unless you booked preferred room.

Yes, that is what I also was thinking, it's just that Mr. Willey who administers this thread has a web page (http://www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php) that indicates building 18, a preferred building, has "Pool View" category rooms, and that made me curious as to whether that is correct or whether it is an error on his web page (or maybe I am just misinterpreting his web page).

Quoted from the page you linked:

"There is no dual-classification between the various booking categories, each room falls into one specific band only. Thus all rooms with a king-size bed are classed as “King Bed” rooms, even if they also happen to be in Preferred Location buildings or may have pool or river views. Similarly, non-King rooms with views overlooking the river — even in the Preferred buildings — count as “River View” rather than Preferred. The same policy applies for the six Pool View rooms in building 18.

For example, if you wanted to try to get a king bed room with a pool or river view, you should book a King Bed category, and then add a request for a Pool/River View if available. The same applies if you want a River View in a preferred buildings; book for River View and then add a request for a close location."

You are reading my page and my maps correctly. The six Pool View rooms in building 18 are sold under the Pool View booking category (shown in light blue on my maps). Similarly the river view (dark blue) rooms in buildings 14 and 27 are River View not Preferred category rooms. The same applies to the King Bed rooms.

Preferred Location bookings get you the remaining standard and garden rooms only (officially anyway).

Thanks Andre! I always thought to get a pool or river view in preferred buildings you had to book preferred.

Thank you Andre. :)

LOL, it's back to first name terms now I'm in the clear eh? :)

Andre
:) Yes, I first referred to you as Mr. Willey, then after you responded to with "Andre" I went with that. I was confused about room types and thankfully you unconfused me. I didn't want to let myself hope too much that I could get a preferred building with a "Pool View" room category reservation. Nice to know it is a possibility.

Above is the room that we stayed in at POR. It is very close to the pool and smoking area. There is still a lot of walking to get to the food court and main pool, but it is better than other locations.

Just paid our spring break trip in full today. I am super excited to be coming back to our favorite resort - PORS of course! Here's to hoping this winter goes by quickly. Then time can slow down while at Disney. ☺

Building 18, next to the Pool View rooms.

There are also some Preferred Location rooms in building 18 which have very nice outlooks over that pool too (including 1829 in the photo), and even a number of Garden View rooms in buildings 16 and 17, some of which you can see in the background in fact.

Mardi Gras this year (Tuesday 17 Feb) will feature the resort's annual "pargo parade" (a mini float competition, designed and run by the resort cast members) starting at 10am and travelling around both resorts, and then lots of Mardi Gras fun and games from 5pm-9pm over at French Quarter.

Very nice. I love walking around the AB section, the landscaping is so lush & pretty.

Hubby & I are headed back to POR next month. He has a business meeting at WDW (lucky us!) and we will be staying at the Beach Club for the first time. We decided to go down a couple extra days and go back to POR. It was great with the kids but we look forward to it as a romantic getaway.
