Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

We will be arriving at POR in just about five weeks so I really need to get some planning done. We have the free dining bounce back and it will be the first time using the dining plan for most of the group. I was wondering if they still have the food trunks that service the quiet pools in the afternoon. Can you use snack credits at the trucks? Does the pool bar serve snacks?

Thanks for the tip. When I booked last night, the CM told me that the garden view rooms were in AB. We're a family of 4, but I really did want AB. I'm almost thinking maybe I shouldn't of switched it and held out for the probable discount that will be offered in the summer.
Historically, are preferred rooms eligible for the room only discount?

1. I'm not sure why they told you that. A garden view room can be anywhere.
2. I had a room only discount on a preferred room in February. I have found that it's harder to get a standard room on discount.

In this thread, that's probably the answer you are most likely to get. :) But it is rather like going into an Irish pub and asking the drinkers there if Guinness is any good.

Andre

Fact.

I have a question about "the royal family of the day"

My cousin's family was this last year when her and her mom took her 2 youngest to POR. I was just wondering how this was chosen (if you happen to know). It is because they were the first family to arrive that day that was staying in a Royal room? Does it even have anything to do with the Royal rooms?? Or is it again just one of those randomly selected special pixie dust treats??

We were Family of the Day at the Contemporary back in 2013. It was our first time staying at BLT and we had just arrived and walked over to the Contemporary for lunch. I asked a cast member if she could help us with the kiosk ordering system as it was our first time using the dining plan and I wasn't sure what was covered. She came over to help us and asked another cast member to join her. They ordered our food and carried our trays. (To be honest, it felt really weird because we couldn't figure out why they thought we couldn't get and carry our own food. :) Anyways, after we paid we were escorted to a table covered with a table cloth, centerpiece and real silverware. There was a sign on the table that read "Family of the Day". The cast member took numerous pictures with our camera. It was cool but that was all there was to it. We had many, many people asking us how we got picked. No idea how we were chosen but it was a great memory for us since it was my 2 year old's first trip to WDW!

LOL, fair enough. But at the same time that is the response i expected to get from pretty much any board. I did switch and got a King bed room which will be perfect for us.

Sue, I've never seen food trucks at the quiet pools! Is this a new thing?

We just booked our honeymoon for December at POR! Cannot WAIT!!!

Congrats. My wife and I will be doing part II of our honeymoon at POR, in December too (my best man gave us a Feb. Cancun trip as a wedding gift for part I). We'll be there from 12/8-12/16.

Have you checked out the Decemeber 2016 thread yet? If not, it can be found HERE .

They were running them when we were there August 30th and 31st last year. I think they said that it was a trial, but my memory could be wrong. That is why I asked the question about them. I haven't seen any other reference made to the food trucks. But I definitely did not dream it up. The lady who ran the truck wasn't getting any customers so I talked to her for awhile to help relieve her boredom. :)

Someone help me feel like a made a good choice.
I had booked a 9 night stay in June, in a Royal room because I really think they look neat in photos and know DGD8 would really find it cool.
But, I couldn't get past the 2 Queen beds. DH and I prefer King beds and are so used to them can't share a Queen any longer.
So it would leave me sleeping with DGD, who thinks sleeping sideways is the way to use a bed.
As I've been exploring the Resort info I discovered you can book King rooms with 3 people. Which means they have the Murphy bed in them, right?
I went through the booking process and I am able to book the 3 of us in a King. If they let me book a King with 3 people we'd get a room with a Murphy bed, right? They wouldn't put 3 in a King room without one would they?
And provided the answer to that is yes, we'd have a King/Murphy combo am I going to be sorry we didn't try the Royal room?
I haven't seen any POR in person yet, but that changes next Thursday, when DH and I check in for a 4 night stay in a King room.
I just hesitate to wait to book something till then since inventory seems to be quite limited. Heck, at first glance the system shows no rooms at POR but when you click on it there are Royal and King rooms available. Which is probably why there are still any left, people don't realize sometimes it shows None available but really there are some. Typical glitch in MDE

Our daughter and son-in-law booked a King room for three because they want their son to sleep in the Murphy bed. She also wanted to be guaranteed to be in Alligator Bayou, which is why they spent the extra money to be in the King instead of a standard room.

Every room type has cool decor, but you are the only one who can decide if it's the right call. The Royal Room will be the only way you can guarantee a mansion room, so if that (or the RR decor specifically) is that important to you, you may have to put up with her kicking you in the face. lol

Wow! I was there last Aug but no trucks at Poly. Were they just at moderates? Too bad they weren't getting any business, sounds like a great idea.

POR has five pools so it makes sense to try the food trucks at a moderate resort. :)

Your booking for three people in a King Bed room will indeed guarantee you an Alligator Bayou room, with a Murphy bed - and that option 'trumps' all other booking categories by the way, so you could legitimately request things like a river view or to be in one of the preferred location buildings if you want. What you won't get, as you surmised, is a Royal Room. I think the other factors are probably more of a draw for you anyway, and as long as you don't tell your DGD about the Royal Rooms she will love her cute pull-down bed with the picture of Louis the alligator. What she doesn't know about won't worry her.

I don't think it was continued, but I'll do some digging and see what I can find out. It was more of a snack cart concept rather than the massive food trucks you get at Disney Springs though.

Thanks. :) It definitely was more of a snack truck then a food truck.
