Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Think they will let me refill my 1995 Dixie Landings mug on my next trip? ;)

Yup. As long as you pay for whatever you fill it with. I still have my Dixie Landings mug too!

If you arrive at POR and your room is not ready, I know that bell services will hold your luggage, but would they store some items in their fridge to ?

I have a question about online checkin. I have booked preffered and on initial reservation I had requested building 14. I was going to pick corner room and upper floor as my choices. I am also going to tick the box saying I would like early room if possible as I arrive the night before and am staying off property that first night.

If I check the box requesting early room, I will still keep preffered location right? I don't really care about building 14 now, as I can see that all preffered rooms are fairly close to main building.

Also. When I get there and am assigned an early room, can I refuse it and decide to wait if the location they give me doesn't appeal to me?

Yes, "preferred location" is not a request, it is a booking category. So if you ask for an early room in preference to getting all your requests fulfilled (you might still get both of course) then you'll still be in buildings 14, 15, 18 or 27.

Awesome! Thank you! All the preffered buildings look good to me. I think early room access is important to me as I'm sure we will arrive before 11:00 am. I'd hate to wait until 3:00.

1. Is there an entrance to the food court from the side facing the Ol Man Island?? Or do you need to go through the front entrance to get to the food court??

2. question about room request: what type of request note would be easier for the room assigner to find a room for me--a specific location (i.e. building number) or a list of my "preferences"?

It will be our first stay at POR. I don't have a specific building that I want to request, but I do have a list of preferences like:
- away from smoking area
- has a murphy bed
- close to food court

Building wise I think 26, 28 and 38 are fine with me. Has anyone stayed at these buildings recently?

:thanks:

1. Yes, there are four entrances to the food court (one from the internal corridor from the lobby, and three external doors).

2. Generally ask for what feature you want, not for a specific building. Gives them a better chance of matching your desires rather than just a number.

3. Book a Preferred Location room, should pretty well match all of those requests. Buildings 26 and 28 are getting a bit remote, if you are adamant about a building number, try for 16 or 17.

They are beautiful! They have log furniture and lots of great details.

I'm glad to hear this. I recently read an article titled why Riverside is the worse moderate hotel. I haven't stayed in 10 years and was nervous. I'm looking forward to giving it another try. We will be in Alligator bayou because we are 5.

I wondered this too, so I googled the title as mentioned above, and came up with the article posted online April 7, 2016 in WDW Magazine. The title is "Why Port Orleans is the Worst Moderate"
I don't agree, of course, because POR is my favorite Disney Resort.

Two days before that, WDW Magazine posted an article called "Why Port Orleans is the Best Moderate." They were just giving comparison information.

I have always read that Port Orleans Riverside is the best moderate and some prefer it to some deluxe resorts. We love it and don't want to stay anywhere else.
Yes! I prefer it to any Deluxe or DVC resort. It's the best!

I'll have to go read that article too. Thanks for the info.

I did a quick skim of both articles and I didn't agree with the "worst" article except on one point. That would be the buses. Although saying that, we didn't have many issues with the buses and it wouldn't change my mind on whether to stay there or not. Other resorts have issues with the buses too.

You don't have to convince me. Clip-Clop..Clip-Clop... Wish I was there now! Sigh.
