Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Hi! Hoping someone can answer a quick question. Looking for info on the pool bar. Every year when we went to POR it was closed. We always go late fall and this past year we went to CBR. The pool bar was up and running and thriving. My kids would like to return to POR however our next trip dad and I are planning 2-3 weeks and would really appreciate the pool bar open. I'm guessing it's seasonal and we'd have no problem in the summer. Would my assumption be right.

There are only 6 Pool View rooms within AB that fit your request, all of them in building 18. If they managed to assign you to one of those, you'll be fine. Of course that may not be possible, whereas changing your booking to Preferred would guarantee you a room in 14, 15, 18 or 27 (but with just a standard or garden style view).

Thanks, a friend who was there on Monday morning implied that the menu screens had altered too, but maybe he found out by ordering or looking at the counters? His message said "Looks like changes to breakfast menu at POR. Only item at pizza shop was biscuits and gravy, no more sandwiches. Checked other stations, no sandwich either. Very limited choices all the way around." If you could get some photos of the menus in the morning, or the counter contents, and ask them if anything else has changed that's not on the screens yet, that would be great! (you can send send via the public dropbox link). It's very rare for them to reduce the offerings without updating the menu boards at the same time.

www.portorleans.org/rehab.php for info and photos. The Ol' man Island pool area should hopefully be reopening over the weekend (could even be as early as Friday).

This morning we are having breakfast at Kona Cafe, but tomorrow we will definitely be back here for breakfast. I will surely take pictures of all the screens. Yes we felt it's a bit limited too. Compared to what is listed on the "paper menu" signage when you first come in. It's basically an omelet, a platter, a waffle, a pastry, or the oatmeal station. All of the stations have like one thing. But on the positive side, everything has been very good. I wish the grab and go section was better, but the hot meals are great.

I don't know about the fall season, but here is what I do know.
We have stayed at POR for our last two vacations to Disney and the pool bar was open both times.
April 2015 and back in August 2014.

Hello! Is the main pool still under refurb? If so when is it set to reopen? Thanks!! We arrive Friday so hoping it's open!

I walked by the pool just a few min ago. It looks like it's ready to go. There are some piles of remaining construction type stuff at the far end of it.

The whole area is due to be handed back to resort staff control on 4th march (construction staff are still finishing off details like the bar area and restrooms) but there are things that they'll then need to do before it can be opened to the general public - so while the bar and pool MAY be open by late Friday afternoon, I think Saturday or even Sunday are more likely. Keep an eye on www.portorleans.org/rehab.php for more info.

The pool bar is normally open all year round by the way, with shorter opening hours during the winter, but it generally closes when the weather is especially cold or stormy and no one wants to sit outside by the pool. When that happens, the indoor River Roost Lounge bar opens earlier than normal instead.

OH WOW! TALK ABOUT PERFECT TIMING! THANKS FOR THE INFO!!

Question... We have booked a king room but my father in law wants to join us but have his own room... I know we will be in AB because there are 3 of us in King room. But we also want to request connecting rooms now, should we have him book a preferred room to give us a shot at a preferred King room? Or what is your suggestion?

Thanks. (In case it matters we are going late Aug)

We will have a Royal garden room and wondering what I should put in for a room request. I am concerned about being close to the roof construction. (We will be there mid-may) And of course we'd like to be as close as we can to the food and a bus stop. Is it worth asking for a 2nd floor? From all the info I read, we should do the early check-in first and then fax a room request, does that sound right?

Also, we are trying to figure out what to do on arrival day. We won't have park passes that day. We would love to swim if the weather is good. And maybe take the boat to Disney Springs. Also wondering if anyone has tried to go watch the fireworks from Poly or another resort and if that is hard to get to from POR. Thanks!

From POR take the bus to MK then take the monorail or boat to the Poly for the fireworks. You can also view them from the dock at the Grand Floridian. The same boat that would take you to the Poly stops there first. You will also be able to see the electric water parade as it floats by both resorts. Enjoy!

If he books Preferred, and you ask for Connecting rooms (make sure the bookings are linked on the system) then if they are able to accommodate your request then both rooms will have to be in one of the preferred buildings. You could end up with a parking lot view of course.

Hello. I'm planning on staying at POR this Fall but have never stayed there. Would like a river view room (not Royal room buildings). At the same time want to be close to foodcourt, main building, etc. Which would best fit this as far as building, section, etc? Thanks everyone!!!

Just book River View category and request a room close to the food court. To be honest none of the river facing rooms are that long a walk, but if your request is met then you could be in Alligator Bayou buildings 14 or 27 which are regarded as preferred locations anyway.

How late is he food court open? We get in late and trying to figure if we should grab something at the airport.

Unfortunately, I am not still there to take pictures, but I can verify that the only thing at the pizza shop was biscuits and gravy, unless you wanted just potatoes. That is where they give you the sides for your omelet.
